Jester’s greeting hoot was genuinely unexpected; it made Cliffside feel faintly ashamed of his own behavior. He forced out a hoot of his own for Twilla’s sake, but he was still wary of the other male and refused to sleek his feathers.
He watched them pass the pine twigs, noticing how hard the Shadowtype was trying to lighten the mood. Perhaps there was nothing wrong, after all. But it never hurt to be cautious.
When she spoke of plans, Cliffside wanted to laugh. He would have if it had been just him and Twilla alone, but now he held it in. Still, he couldn’t resist making a comment.
“That’s my Twilla, the Master Planmaker.”

Jester breathed a slight sight of relief as Twilla took the sprigs. Now that she was near him he could relax slightly. Although he could still feel the tension in the air between the other male and himself, he hoped it would soon dissipate. Jester could help but feel as if his every move and thought was being scrutinized. Just who was this other wildtype to Twilla anyway.
Jester balked slightly when his ears caught the words "my Twilla" coming out of Cliffside's beak. Stepping forward slightly, "I'm sorry I don't think we were introduced properly, I'm called Jester. And you are?" he didn't mean for the words to roll into the air with a touch of ire.

Twilla chuckled at Cliffside's comment and continued to try and force a happy facade, but the gnawing feeling that this entire meeting was headed down a slippery slope continued to pull at her mind.
"Mm, never been one good at those, eh Cliffy?" She commented with another little chuckle.
As she spoke, she did shuffle slightly nearer to Jester again, hoping that would help ease the tension, at least a little bit, coming from her mate.

Cliff smiled at Twilla's self-deprecation. "Maybe not, Twi, but you're still a wonderful lady in my eyes."
Then one brow ridge rose at the other male's abrupt introduction. "Cliffside," was his brief reply. He clearly didn't feel the need to get into specifics about himself, such as his task or where he lived. And certainly not about his relationship with Twilla. That was up to her.
He watched the female in question sidle closer to this "Jester." There was a momentary premonition, but Cliffside dismissed it. Twilla was too smart for such absurdity.

Sidestepping towards Twilla as she did the same, Jester relaxed minutely. He wished this 'friend' wasn't so forward with Twilla. His mind started to wander into what was the nature of the relationship between the two. Banishing the thoughts from his mind, he decided to give this his best.
Nodding to Cliff, "Very nice to meet you. Won't you come in?" he inquired of the male. Taking a step towards the entrance to the willow, he hooted softly to Twilla, worried she wasn't comfortable. Jester didn't want to admit it but he was worried to, he wanted to speak to Twilla in private, but now was not the time.

"Mm, oh, where are my manners! Please do!" Twilla chimed as cheerily as she could and bustled past Cliffside into the hovel. As she entered, she cleared the pine sprigs against one side of the innards of the willow tree.
She and her companions had managed to gather a small cache of nuts and berries for the event and she moved them to the center of her home.
"Here we are! Both of you, please help yourselves!"

His previous premonition had been dismissed, but Jester's invition sent a fresh wave of dread through Cliff's innards. Twilla went inside, leaving the two Wildtypes alone. Cliffside stared stonily at the other male, wanting to threaten him to stay away from Twilla, but he said nothing. After all, he could be wrong. He hoped he was wrong. He turned his back on Jester and went into the hovel.
Inside, Cliff put a smile on his beak for his Shadow friend as he plucked up a juicy berry with his Will. "Thanks, Twi. It's nice to have something sweet after all those Mus every night."

Jester didn't know exactly how to act around this new Wildtype. But wanting to put his best foot forward, he followed Cliff into the hovel. Jester was a good natured Sentinel but something about this Wildtype made Jester suspicious and cautious of everything the other male said and did.
Perching himself near Twilla he rolled a berry with his foot, lifted it with his will and snapped it up. "Delicious! I don't know how you do it Twilla, always perfectly ripe." Silently to himself Jester attempted to think of something so he could speak to Twilla in private.
As he thought he turned to Cliffside, "So you work with Mus?" he inquired of the other male, as he chose another berry to be gobbled up.

Twilla chose a nice plump berry from the little pile that she and her two companions had gathered. The mouthy, gray mus watched tentatively from the entrance of the hovel, but the skurri had made herself scarce in the limbs above. He recognized Cliffside well, as he came from the keeper's stock a good while ago.
"I bet!" Twilla chuckled. "I think I'd go insane with naught but mus after mus. If you would like, once I fill my night's quota, I could bring you a pawful one night."
Jester's praise made her fluff her feathers out of pleased embarrassment.

With a grin, Cliff made quick work of a promising nut. "I'd like that. And of course I'll have some of my best stock set aside for you when you get there."
"So you work with Mus?"
At the question, one side of his mouth stretched upward as he shifted his gaze to Jester. It was a vaguely unfriendly version of his earlier grin. "Well, I don't exactly work with them. I've probably only trained three of them in my entire life."

Very content with the sweet taste of the berry on his tongue, Jester made a mental note to thank the companions later.
His attention quickly shifted to Cliffside, 'My question was honest,' the thought, 'though why does it feel like he's laughing.' Jester didn't exactly know what keepers did, and was mildly curious.
Jester shuffled his feet beneath him slightly, "Oh, only three?" he inquired as he rolled a nut towards himself instead of a berry.

Twilla forced a smile and nodded her head. "Cliffside, here, runs a business different from most keepers. He's a caterer. He breeds them for food, rather than companions. They're quite tasty, too, if I might ad."
As the tension increased, so did her worry that things were going to take a turn for the worst.
"So I guess I might as well spill the skurri, so to speak, hmm?"

Cliffside nodded at Twilla’s description of his work, puffing with pride at her compliment. “I’ve trained my mus, Bee, and my chirop, Speed,” he explained to Jester. “They’re the only ones of note.”
He tilted his head at the Shadow a moment later as she spoke. “Spill what, Twi?”

'Fascinating, and practical!' Jester thought shaking his feathers in attempts to get rid of the tension in his shoulders. Munching on the tender innards of the nut he choose from the pile he wondered to himself. Perhaps this new sentinel wasn't bad at all, and the thought of a tasty mus made Jester's mouth water.
Glancing to Twilla, as she began to speak again, having a good idea of what Twilla was going to tell Cliffside, Jester puffed up in pride just a bit.

At first, the shadow female was at a loss for words. Cliffside never really acted as though he loathed cross type couples, but she suddenly felt doubtful. Would he be angry? He was the closest thing to family that she had left, what with the passing of her mother.
"I should of kept in better contact with you after she died..." She started slowly, trying to pick each word carefully. "But... I needed some time, you know... To adapt. Then I found Jester. He really is a fantastic male and... Well. I wanted to introduce you to him. To my mate." Her feathers sleeked slightly as she spoke, as she feared any negative reactions from her old friend.
