I've always felt that if I change the default names then I'm missing something. I realize that, that sounds strange though sweatdrop And you have to admit that Square comes up with some interesting names.

Yup, but I would absolutely hate to go around these incredible fantasy worlds with Amanda and crew. Sometimes they use real names, but it always works anyway, somehow: Zack, Lulu, Cid, Eiko (though that's Japanese...).

But somehow both characters are notoriously popular.

I would wholeheartedly love to be friends with a Squall. I just might name my kid Squall. ...Probably not, I don't want to subject him to such bullying as he would get for it.

After the ending of FF VIII it's almost definite that he's more light-hearted. But I'm not so sure I like that sweatdrop Some how the Japanese get away with those names though. For example, look at Sol Badguy from Guilty Gear. Or Jo from the Burst Angel anime. Those names to me seem very basic and don't fit the characters at all. But miraculously they pulled it off.

Anime/video game characters are slightly different, though. I mean, I'd like to see someone try and pick on Sol for his name. xd Though I actually read his "real" name is Frederick... You know the whole Queen story? Anyway, I don't think a real person could get away with it so easily, or I would change my name to Eriyu.

I normally change the names of the main male character and the main female character and keep the rest the same. I name the girl after myself and the guy after my fiance, and I really don't care enough to rename the rest.

I will keep the name the first time I play, so I can get into the story, but after that they are fair game. And if I do not like a character, they get a rather harsh (and immature) name. lol

Yeah, I was thinking of names I would give to my children (if I wanted to have any) and I seem to like either Japanese or very old fashioned European names. I'm sure that my child would get picked on. And I'm not picking on Sol, I knew a spanish girl named Sol (since it means sun and all) I just think it's an odd name for a person xD

ArikaiHart Stars give their kids stupid names all the time. blaugh Ah, yes. I sincerely pity Dweezil and Moon Unit Zappa (though I kind of like Diva Muffin). Not to mention Pilot Inspektor and Moxie Crimefighter. Fifi Trixibelle? xd OK, I'm done. sweatdrop

You ever think FF kids get picked on because of their names? Harrassed by bullies, be subject to really poorly rhyming insults... xd

ArikaiHart You ever think FF kids get picked on because of their names? Harrassed by bullies, be subject to really poorly rhyming insults... xd Well, yeah, that was how the whole thing with Squall and Seifer started, wasn't it? It was what drove Zidane to a life of crime, why Tidus really hated his father, and what actually drove Sephiroth crazy. I mean, Balthier actually had to change his name 'cause of all the crap he was getting for it. One thing I always thought was weird is that Mikoto and Eiko are possibly the only character in all of Final Fantasy to have regular Japanese names. Maybe Yuna is; I'm not sure. Anyway, Mikoto especially really stuck out to me.
