Rikku grinned at him again as she settled into a comfortable pace beside him as they moved steadily towards the lake "I'll be okay walking here, it's not to far." She was still grinning, yet she was serious now, no more happy wiggling and jumping around just a steady hobbling 3-step movement.
As they reached the waters she picked up speed just a tiny bit until she was right at the edge of a gently sloping bank that dripped off suddenly bellow water level. Carefully laying down she stuck both forelegs in the water and sighed happily at the coolness of it.
She lay there now waiting for him to lay down, if he wanted to that is, as well. Now that she was off the foot again and had it resting comfortably the pain had dulled from sheer torture to an annoying throb, still she didn't let it affect her to much outside of the slight hint of it in her eyes.

He did not completely believe her so every now and then he glanced over his shoulder to make sure she was doing alright. She seemed to be doing perfectly fine or as well as one could expect given her injury. In what felt like no time at all they had reached the water and she was hobbling past him to get to it.
He watched her a moment longer, watching for signs of further pain, but saw nothing. A small grin settled on his face and he spread his wings. He took off into the sky like a bolt of lightning and flew out over the lake. Without warning he turned down and doves into the water sending a rather large wave of water up around him. Sure it would have been easier to just jump in but he never really was one to do things the easy way.
Besides, this way looked a hell of a lot cooler. Now completely soaked he swam his way bake to the edge of the lake and Rikku. A large grin was plastered on his face though it was slightly covered by the long strands of his mane now clinging to his muzzle, neck, checks and anywhere else it could get.

She blinked as the wave splashed against her face and neck. She kept blinking as she saw him swim towards her then let out a loud laugh and shook herself as best she could without getting up. "You're one crazy stallion Dark ... not like so many I've met that stare at me like I'm a complete fool for wanting to play." She frowned, they way those had treated her had really left a hurt in the mare that was normally hidden by her hyper active side.
She stretched again and grinned up at him, for a moment she pictured something maybe she should have .. a happy expecting couple .. them.
Rikku quickly shook her head to clear it of the image, and looked away. It was this seriousness, yea, that had to be what made her think that. Dark was like her brother, and he certainly wasn't likely to like her like that, no not crazy 'ol childish Rikku.

Dark laughed a bit as he climbed out of the lake. He shook himself off enough to get rid of most of the dripping water but left enough to keep him cool for a while. "Nothin wrong with wanting to play." He said dropping to the ground to lay down and rest for a while.
He had never imagined that a game of tag would were him out so badly. It was probably the adrenaline rush wearing off from when Rikku hurt herself. "Though next time maybe you should play more and hurt yourself less, huh Rikku." He smiled at her with a clearly teasing look on his face. He laughed a little bit before resting his head on the ground to stare out over the water. The water from his mane slowly started running into his eyes so he lifted his head and shook sending a small shower of tiny droplets out around him.

She seemed to be watching him for the moment head tilted to the side, but she almost didn't seem to see him.
At first she completely missed what he said, but a few seconds latter she blinked "Huh? oh .. yea, I should watch where I'm going. I stumble and trip a lot though so it's not such a big deal." She shrugged as well as she could seeing as she was a horse and shifted slightly, oh how she wanted to be naive again and never think the thought of the two of them together.
Shaking her head she peered down at her own distorted reflection in the ripple broken water.

His ears flicked at the delay in her speech. So far she had always answered or responded to him immediately the pause had his a bit worried. Either she was still hurting pretty bad or she was thinking about something and her voice didn't sound especially pained. What was she thinking about?
He chuckled lightly and shook his head pretending that he hadn't caught on to anything. "Maybe I should worry over you a bit more then." He said teasing her once again, though in a way he was serious. If she tripped and fell all the time who knew how often she got herself hurt. It wasn't a particuarly comforting thought.
Trying to get away from the subject of Rikku hurting herself he followed her gaze to the water to see his own warped face staring back at him. He cringed at the sight and turned more on his side so he wouldn't be able to see it anymore. "Ya know you're much prettier then that." He said casually gesturing to the water.

Rikku smiled at him forcing her mind back into a happier place, for the sake of her own mental stability she needed too.
"You don't have too silly Dark." she nudged his side slightly and looked back at the water. "Well, I can hope that I'm prettier than that right?." She giggled in her typical silly way.
She nibbled lightly on the grass at the edge of the pond and wiggled her fore hooves in the water making it splash and slosh slightly. A small breeze jostled her mane and she started tossing her head making chewing motions with her mouth as if she thought she could really eat the air and giggled.

He did not have to but he got the feeling he would anyway. At least every now and then he would. It wasn't like he could think about her every waking moment. He had other things to occupy his mind. An obnoxious daughter, an annoying overly worry some mare, an almost silent mother; he paused his thoughts wondering why so many of his problems revolved around one of his favorite things.
He shook his head to remove the thought while keeping his vision on the mare to his side. She giggled and he chuckled along with her not saying anything. Sometimes he found words were completely useless. Better to be strong and silent then to come across as an overly romantic sap.
As he continued to watch he found one or two things a bit strange. The main one being that she currently seemed to be trying to chew on the air. He stared at her in complete disbelief for a moment longer before shaking his head. He turned to look out over the water trying to stop the laughter inside him from bubbling out. His efforts were in vein and after only a few seconds his laughter was filling the air.

She looked over at him as he started to laugh "what's so funny huh?" She headbutted him softly before looking back up her teal eyes shinning. For now the depressive Rikku was gone replaced once again by her hyperactive foalish self. She flicked her tail and it brushed against the earth tangling some leaves and blades of grass into her braids.
Life seemed nice with her friend, she didn't feel so confined to just lay there as she normally did, or maybe it was just the fact that she was pretty immobile at the moment thanks to falling in the hole earlier.
Tossing her head once, then twice she dipped her muzzle into the water and sipped for a moment letting the cool liquid run down her throat into her gut.
The chilly liquid sent a shudder down her spine but in an instant there was no trace of the movement.

His laughter died down to a soft chuckle. "Oh, nothin. Just nothin." He said an amused tone in his voice matching the smirk on his face. He watched her for a moment before shaking his head. She was such a silly creature, but she was cute. Letting out another chuckle he allowed himself to roll over to his side to rest in the grass.
While it was far from dull being with Rikku the action had slowed down to an almost complete halt. He took in a deep breath and let it out slowly before closing his eyes gently. It was quite relaxing here, it was tempting him to revisit the idea of an afternoon nap. His ears twitched hearing the water move. He opened an eye a bit to see what was going on then closed it seeing everything was okay.
He imagined he wouldn't really be able to sleep with Rikku near anyway. For now he would just rest a little. He would stay at least a little alert. Nothing would be sneaking up on them.

Rikku stuck her tongue out slightly "nothin huh? As if I believe you" she grinned at him but didn't press the notion further as she rubbed her wet muzzle against the cloth on her legs. She watched him roll onto his side and relax with a slight goofy smile. It was kinda relaxing being here with him... oh what the heck!
Rikku shifted slightly and rested her head and neck over his side closing her teal eyes for the time being as well.
His breathing, nor the rhythmic thud of his strong heart bothered Rikku as she rested there with him. In all truthfulness it was soothing, along with the sounds of the world aorund them. Life couldn't get any better than this right?
Letting out a soft, happy sigh she snuggled in a little closer and started to doze off.

He smiled laughing softly once again. She didn't have to believe him but it was a silly thing anyway. Just, silly like so much seemed to be around her. Dark had to admit that this was a nice break from the stresses his life had been throwing at him lately.
His laughter quited down as he felt the mare leaning against him. He lifted his head to see what she was doing. His smile grew and he shook his head lightly before resting it on the ground again. Perhaps he would be getting some rest with her around after all.
Gently he moved one of his wings away from Rikku trying not to disturb her in the process. Once it was free he drapped it over Rikku's side to cover her to send a message to the surrounding world. That message being that Rikku was with him, at least for the moment, and he wouldn't stand for anyone trying to take her. No one stole from the great Phantom Thief after all. No one except for maybe his brat of a daughter. He made a face and sighed pushing the thought to the back of his mind.
One day he would get her back for that but until then he was tired. his eyelids closed over his eyes and he began to drift off.
