Hm, that's a hard one...

I think I would pick Lycanthrope. I've always been fascinated with Lycanthropy and everything like that.
But if I became one too soon, then I wouldn't be able to have kids.
I kind of plan on having kids someday.

But I wouldn't be able to have kids if I were vampire either...
Besides the children factor, I'm still leaning towards Lycanthrope.
Vampires, to me, most of the time seem kind of arrogant. I really don't like that about people and I certainly wouldn't want to be arrogant either.

And being Lycanthrope, I could still eat steak!
I do like my steak....

let me point out that its not three times and you're a vampire, its three times and you're a maser vampires human servant.

To be a vampire its the same as in the Buffy verse I think.

almost. its three bites within a month, and they drain you and you die. then you come back a vampire.

It is interesting to see peoples responses. I'm noticing a trend based solely on 'likes' and 'cool,' I think the initial intension for the post was the weigh the ups and downs of each race. Something I would like to add is that not all vampires become master, and not all lycans become strong enough to resist the call of a vampire. What I'm trying to say is that for the purposes of this poll [or discussion at this point, lol.], given you are either and average vampire or an average lycanthrope, given the drawbacks to both species; which would you choose.

And even though I'm STILL ranting, I would think it amiss to not include the shifting for a lycan and the Death, Damnation, Compulsion and "diet" for the Vamp.

For Lycans, when they shift it's a replacement of body tissue, bne, skin, and fur; it's violent, messy and very painful. And although they only have to shift once a month, sometimes extenuating circumstances cause them to shift more than once. All the others I could think of have pretty much have been noted.

Vampires, have to deal yet more 'problems.' One such example is their "death" at dawn each day. In the anita-verse, the change over from awake to day-sleep is described as much a mortal death as any human [kinda bad, but i guess not too much of a deterrent, since you would get used to it]. Vampires are considered damned souls, it's the reason that holy objects [not just crosses] repel them if religious faith is behind them [the stronger the faith, the strong the "glow"]. This point is slightly contested in the anita-verse in later books [based mostly on personal belief] so I'll leave THAT as contested. The compulsion or the "Thirst" [as the buffy-verse calls it], the desire for human blood. You can find willing donors, but if you at all ignore the craving for too long, you could end up going on a killing spree to satisfy your stomach. Which brings me to my last point; vampires cannot eat, enjoy, and digest food. Unless you were one of the lucky few who became a master vampire [and only through servant bonds], you would not be able to enjoy the foods you once did [most ppl forget this].


ALL that being said [sorry it took so long] I myself have a tough time deciding. I can't even come to a conclusion, [I know, I know, I'm hypocritical, sorry]. I do see the ups AND downs of each, and downs aside i would jump at either one, but it's hard to take in the entirety of all negatives and positives to make my decision, and with that, I'm sorry. emo redface

I think that the reason lycans get such a raw deal...(lol)...is because there has to be some way to limit such power. Yes, the average lycan is not going to be as strong and powerful as Richard or Micah, but they still can walk in sunlight, can still hide and pass for human, and the power of their beasts is frightening to even vampires...

For all the pains involved, they are not denied the simple pleasures of being alive other than being able to bear children. True, they cannot have sexual release easily with another human, but they can find other lycans to enjoy love making with.

Because they have so many freedoms as long as their other part is kept secret, they are almost untouchable in both worlds, so vampires are sort of acting as the wolves for the wolves.


Finally, my answer...it is hard to choose, but I think I'd much rather be a lycan because I do not have the desire to live forever BUT I would love to change into an animal once a month and join the hunt in a forest, catching prey and sinking my teeth and claws into food I earned.

I'd rather be a wolf than a corpse any day.
