He let out hissing laugh, proud that she was so bright. She'd do their kind well, very well. "Once upon a time, I slept on a bed of gold. Many two-leggeds would come to my home in hopes of slaying me and taking my bed for themselves. But two-leggeds are strange creatures that like to hear themselves talk. The key to that game is out-witting them, getting them off guard, and then attacking. That was the game I played before I was finally captured."
The red dragon glanced around them, wondering if there was anything they could play a game with. It would be interesting to teach her his way, giving her more of an open view of each individuals' differences. And then he caught its scent, a doe in the distance that hadn't sensed them yet. "Would you like to play a game of tag with me after a deer?"

"Mm..." Her tail flickered back and forth behind her, a toothy grin curving her small mouth. "I... Would like that. Very much." She nodded slowly. "But... It isn't tag unless we're going to let her go. Maybe we should just play catch."

The pride that he felt towards the little one made his chest want to burst. He had a well-pleased smile on his maw, the points of his teeth showing with the action. "A wonderful observation. Now just tuck your wings to your body so you can move easily between the woods."
He took another deep breath, still smelling the game that lay ahead of their position. "Divide and conquer is usually the best right now. I'll go to one side as you go to the other. If she's alerted to our presence, spring at her, okay? I'll make sure she won't get too far for you." He paused for a moment and looked at her thoughtfully. "Will this be your first official hunt?"

She almost wriggled with delight, just barely managing to keep back that child-like notion as she followed after him, wings held tightly against her body. The webbing was still far too delicate and any tears now would make flight a hard task in the future.
She watched him attentively as he continued to speak, bright green eyes wide and alert, tail ticking back and forth behind her. "I've chased things... But I've never caught one of my own yet..."

He felt another tug, "Well, may this go in our favor. I'll make sure that she doesn't run ahead of you if she does spook."
Myrddin jerked his head in the opposite direction, cuing her to go to the far side and circle around. "Keep her in your sights. And not just with your eyes." He turned his back then to trudge his own path around the doe. He'd make sure that this hunt was a success for the young filly.

Her tail ticked behind her, head lowering as she slowly made her way in the direction he'd pointed her in so as to not startle their prey. She had a good feeling about this game, for some reason... A very good feeling.
Her arrogance lead to a misstep though, a cracking branch beneath her hoof causing the doe's head to rise, eyes wide and alert. She hissed as she sprang after it, catching her fangs on the flesh of a hind leg briefly before the creature pulled ahead.

Myrddin had kept his molten gaze on their quarry, moving slowly since he had a longer stride that the little one. And it was a good thing he had gone so slow when he heard the cracking sound on her side of the woods. His ears swiveled to the sound just as his hooves beat quickly on the ground, moving himself into the path of the two.
He lowered his head and grabbed the doe at the top of her withers. It wasn't a killing blow, but something to keep the animal from dragging Malison across the forest floor. "Gopher de meck," he said over the chunk of meat he had trapped in his jaws. Even if she had some help, this would be her first kill either way. He was going to see to that.

Snarling she lunged at the stupid creature that had dared run away from her, tiny teeth tearing into flesh as she caught the doe's neck as instructed, her hold drawing tighter as hooves tried to strike at her. No, she wasn't going to let this animal get away with that. It was hers now, its life in what she believed to be her jaws alone as her tail ticked back and forth behind her to the beat of the doe's heart.

He held onto the deer with his own teeth, waiting for the last beat of its heart. He was just bursting with pride, like she was his own offspring. He steadily watched the filly's tail move and when he saw her stop ticking it and the animal didn't move anymore, he slowly lowered it down to the ground.
He lifted his head and licked his lips, the coppery taste hitting his tongue and letting him now he'd drawn blood as well. "Now take a good whiff of her so you'll know her scent next time." He lowered his head to rub his muzzle against the fur of the beast as an example. "The male's scent can be found," he trailed his muzzle further down to the doe's rump, "here. But I'll catch you one of those sometime so you can tell the difference better."
Was he actually going to take this little filly under his wing? Well, it sounded like from his talk he was seriously considering it.

She sniffed lightly at the deer as she was instructed to, nose wrinkling slightly as she fought back a sneeze, just barely managing to shake it off. "She smells... Funny." 'Different' would have probably been a better word to use, as most of the things that she had come across of this size had been dead for some time or already picked at before she'd seen them or had them presented to her. She'd remember that smell now though, just as she'd remember how quickly she'd have to move to catch another one of these.
She glanced up at the stallion, tail twitching once before she looked to the fallen doe. "Is it always that easy? Or just when you're bigger?"

"It gets easier with each catch. This is probably the hardest animal to catch aside from the larger meatbags that roam these lands. Alicorns are the most challenging, but worth the taste," he said as his mouth started to salivate at the thought.
He nudges the creature once, slicing the skin with his nose horn, making sure it was completely dead. "Dig in before she gets cold." He wasn't sure how she would enjoy the warmth of a meal freshly caught or even what her meals had been like before their chance meeting.

She continued to watch him for a moment before leaning down, touching her nose to the doe. Most of her meals had been things that her parents had brought back to she and her siblings... Or, more recently, the things that she had tried to catch on her own, determined to be independent. Long dead rabbits and small birds had nothing on the scent of warm, fresh meat like this.
As if uncertain as to what she should be doing she let her fangs carefully sink into flesh, tearing a mouthful away to be chewed on. "Mmmm." Swallowing she leaned down quickly to take another taste, not having realized just how hungry she'd been.

He nodded his approval to the little filly. Perhaps... "Perhaps you would like to travel with me. I could teach you the ways of a dragon, train you in combat, and basically help you stand on your own four feet," he mused out loud.
He leaned down to take a bite out of the doe's back muscles, giving Malison time to think about his offer. It wouldn't effect him either way she chose, but would ultimately help her in being one of the betters of their world.

She pondered his words over her next bite, lifting her head as she chewed so that she could glance back over her shoulder in the direction she'd come from before. Out there she had a mother and a father... Would they miss her if she didn't come back to them? Would she learn more with this stallion? Would she eat more?
"Mm..." She turned her attention back down to their kill, licking her lips before glancing up at him. "I'd like that. I'd like that a lot."
