the ood I can't make up mind on this ep. Davids acting was spectacular as always but something about it felt very strange. Was it a shorter episode or am I just going crazy? I agree. It didn't seem like the usual Doctor Who... Too modern to be like a classic episode, but more subtle subject matter than anything else this season. It also went by very quickly for me. But in a good way. I liked it.
It seemed more like a live action play with the contained set. I hope when Davies steps down from being exec. producer he will still write an episode once in a while because I have liked most all of his episodes... though it took me a while to realize. ^_^
Small nitpick: some of the passenger's technology seemed too 21st century earth-like, and therefore out of place, like earbuds and an overhead projector? xd But if this is the low budget ep that's not too serious... The same way the computers in all the classic episodes are gigantic boxes!!

Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful episode. I've liked seeing how the Doctor's overconfidence has been getting him into so much trouble this season, and if the last few episodes have been any indications, the show is going back to it's old way of telling stories, which I am all for.
I especially liked the Doctor and Donna's banter at the beginning. I can see why so many others have thought they were married. whee

One of my favorite Doctor Who episodes ever. I'm glad too, cause when i saw the trailer from the last episode, I thought this one was going to suck.
It was quite suspenseful and thrilling...I liked how the episode showed what fear could to do people.

This was such a brilliant episode on so many levels! Of course, acting kudos go to David Tennant, but there is no way he could have pulled off this episode if his supporting cast weren't just terrific, and they were!
The trailer for this episode did misguide us, but how can you sum up an episode that is built on tension and panic without there being lots of blood and gore? I think they did an ok job at it. It's just one of those episodes you have to watch after you've heard everyone and their brother raving about it.
In the words of Jenny, "Love the running!" and the chasing and the shooting and the explosions and all that other loud, exciting stuff about most "normal" episodes of Doctor Who, so I was a little bit skeptical about watching Midnight with everyone just being stuck on this bus thing. However, it was very smart, and the mimicking thing added a level of suspense to the show that I didn't know existed in the world. I wouldn't say I was scared, but it definitely kept me fully interested. Loved it. Loved it. Loved it.
I think the "hostess" was great. People who don't have those kind of jobs (basically crowd management) don't take the time to think about what kind of person it takes to do it. They have to act like that. They have to be kind of bitchy or everyone would walk all over them, and in a case like this, they have to play the bouncer to the best of their ability. In the end, she solved the problem in just the way it needed to be done, and she was the only one with the guts enough to do it, and (Doctor's morality aside) to do it efficiently.
The thing that floored me most about the episode was that mother. "I told you it was her the whole time!" eek eek eek Seriously?! She was the one ordering the guys to throw the Doctor out!!!!! scream scream scream Amazing writing. Just absolutely fantastic.
I'm not gonna lie, when Donna said at the end, "Mota bene" (or wtf ever), and the Doctor said, "No, don't do that," I thought he was berating her for her accent like he did to Rose's Scottish accent in Tooth and Claw. It wasn't until neither of them cracked a smile that I realized that she had just mimicked him. Yikes! Two episodes in a row where the Doctor and Donna are just looking as bovvered as can be. Poor Doctor!
Edit: Oh, and BTW, THE DOCTOR'S NEW SUIT IS WIN! GOODBYE UGLY BLUE SUIT! HELLO PURPLE PINSTRIPES!

EhmiEhmi Edit: Oh, and BTW, THE DOCTOR'S NEW SUIT IS WIN! GOODBYE UGLY BLUE SUIT! HELLO PURPLE PINSTRIPES! I don't think the purple pinstripe suit is new. I'm pretty sure I've seen him wear it multiple times before in past seasons. Other than that, everything you said, from how misleading the trailer was to the Doctor/Donna mimicry at the end, matches my sentiments for the episode so completely that I can't help but be somewhat frightened...you haven't vacationed on any diamond-encrusted exotonic planets recently have you?

Personally, I really get into stuff like this. I love psychological thrillers, and stuff that brings out the darker aspects of humanity. Mankind really is quite rotten, when you sit and think about it.
But what I really, really loved was the beautiful symbolic parallels. Stealing the voice, stealing the breath, stealing the essence... I ended up having a very, very long phone conversation with some of my geekier friends, and we all agreed that there are few things more terrifying than that which is subtle. Honestly, the idea of a being who can steal your soul through mimicry horrifies me more than any mere monster. Death can be dealt with rationally, but what can you do against something that's in your head? Obviously, I've overthought this to an absurd degree.
Beyond that, the writing was top-notch, as was the acting. They pulled it off brilliantly, and left me literally stunned by the end. Fabulous episode.
Ooh, Midnight anecdote: I downloaded and ended up watching it late in the evening. Then we go out for a late supper, and my little sister (who didn't watch the episode, because it was scary and she's little) decided it would be funny and start repeating everything I say, as little kids do. Only, she wouldn't stop. So, I was pretty much genuinely freaking out until she got her icecream and finally shut up. Ah, irony. ~overactive imagination~

It was one of my favorite episodes. I personally like the two pilots the most, and they were killed off first lol. The whole voice sync thing was weird, i cant imagine how hard it was to have to act that out lol. Too bad noone knew the hostess's name, its like telling your kids of a hero and just saying "once there lived a person, whose name i dont know...."

lemonpiepie this episode was good, but I was mostly waiting for the tralier at the end, and I must say I'm really worried about Turn Left. Mostly because the way Rose was acting, was so ... Not like her, I really don't want her to change, And all through the series she hasnt really felt like Rose, if that makes any sense. (Fangirl Alert) Awwww I get so upset when the Doctor doesnt see Rose, like when I was rewatching Partners in Crime the other day I started Begging the Doctor to go with Donna, and then In Midnight I started screaming Turn Around! at the TV, but I really hope Rose hasnt changed to much I know I am commenting kinda late on this... but did anyone else notice this is the THIRD Rose appearance and not the second one? In poison sky she appeared on the monitor just before the Doctor made contact with the Sauntarins (or whatever they are called). Shoonta Ha! lmao. The image was the same exact one as the one in this, but much shorter and a tad more scrambled.

One of the most scary episodes for me i think. And one of the most brilliant to.
See RTD ,you DON'T always have to bring out the big ol' CGI guns with lots of actiony-stuff to make an amazing episode! (in reference to the just plain boring Voyage of the damned). For most of it being filmed in a small space, it managed to grab my attention and suspense for pretty much all of it. I loved the different dramatic twist on it, with all the paranoia , rather then a big scary monster being the focal point of the episode. The people were more frightening then the 'thing' itself! I also liked how the doctor didn't have any control over he matter by the end, that was also quite scary.
I have to say, it beat my seemingly low expectations for what I thought this episode was going to be like. By far.

I didn't like it too much. It was too full of 'wut IS it? Throw it out! Throw SOMEONE out!' 'OMGITSCOPYINGME!!!' And then it just ended. And it left me disappointed because I never found out what it was. D= But that might have been because I was beating up bosses on WoW at the same time as watching it. I'll go watch it again sometime and see if my opinion changes. )= Because I don't like not liking Doctor Who.

This was a great episode to show why the Doctor has companions. They buffer him and help others follow his lead by showing trust in him. Alone and in a room with strangers the ugly form of humanity truly came through and he was helpless against it.
I also love the fact that he was shaken up so badly that he couldn't even pretend to be ok when he met up with Donna at the end and is basically pleading with her not to copy his words even in the lightest of ways as she did.
I rank the episode up there with Family of Blood two parter and Blink.

Wow, that was a good episode. And I love how at the end, you can see just how shaken up the Doctor is, when Donna mimics him, and he's all freaked out about it.
And yeah, the whole mimicking thing must have been hell to act.

Although I liked the episode, I was wondering... what's stopping the evil creature thing from coming back into the transport? I mean, it's not like it would die after being thrown out with the hostess, since it was living out there originally.
Anyway, it was a fairly entertaining story, overall. And relatively companion-less. Which furthers my belief that Doctor Who can exist just fine without the annoying female tag-alongs...
