My dad's family took care of a baby otter when he was younger. He lived in his bathtub. Eventually they gave him to the zoo since they couldn't handle him anymore. I think the zoo eventually was able to release him back into the wild. His name was Scooter.

I hope he didn't die in the wild. -_-

Releasing previously-captive, therefore semi-domestic animals back into the wild has always seemed like a rather optimistic, romantic concept that's honestly not practical, but ultimately makes people "feel better about themselves and their impact on the world".

Malarky.

I dunno.

My family didn't. So if he died it wasn't us. It was the dumb zoo.

No finger pointing. sweatdrop I was saying the overall concept ties me in little knots.

Heh wasn't saying you were. But I completely agree. Its like when PETA released all those ferrets in order to 'save them'. They all died >>

PETA = epic fail eco-terrorists.

I can understand it if you are trying to reintroduce an entire population back to the wild. I mean I guess if you are trying undo damage done by poachers or industrialization that's a noble cause but if it's just one specimen I can certainly see zphal's point; it may be more of an emotional thing than a logical decision.

Of course there are also times when we must realize that what has been done cannot be undone like the extinction of the Chinese River Dolphins. sad

Give genetic DNA stuff time. xd

I thought we were attempting to get back the Tasmanian Tiger, for instance. Though it's relatives are a little odder, I guess. Dolphins sound like they'd be easier. confused

My current wish once they figure out DNA manipulation into completely different species is a cabbit. I want my own Ryo-Ohki!!!

@Nadian: Why do you have peacocks in the area? Last I checked they definitely weren't native to Texas..

And Z, you are a bit twisted, but at least you back it up with intelligence. 3nodding Whales couldn't stop the oil crisis. Not using oil for so much would though. I still have no clue why the US doesn't try to make a nuclear waste recycling plant like France has.

Speaking of the French, they've also got a car that runs off compressed air. 3nodding I'd definitely use it if I could get my hands on it.

Compressed air you say? I'm interested now as to how it works.... It's kinda like that Aptera thing that gets 300mpg. It looks like a fishie. x3

Everyone gets all angsty and their panties go into a knot when people say the word "nuclear", that's why. xd

There used to a slogan "Split wood, not atoms." Well, now that everyone is worried about pollution as well as deforestation, that's a pretty lousy slogan. rofl

I think everyone is obsessed with having as many "crisises" as possible.

Yeah, she says she wants one. But I want one too. So she better be reserving two. ninja

Just a couple weeks ago, she was trying to offer me the red van. I was like "What, you think my sentimentality built up over numbers of years is going to cloud my judgement? I don't want something that's bigger than we need and guzzles gas." D:

Because the French fashion designers haven't gotten a hold of it yet.

Personally, I'd like it to be a bit higher off the ground... My grandparents' van is nice to drive and all, but going through the dips and bumps is annoying.
