May bristled at the other woman's voice, the hairs on the back of her neck standing on end. She sucked in a rather sharp breath, her eyes narrowing in a slightly-less-then-Tango-intimidating glare. She, too, refused to look away. She had a question to ask, and she wasn't going to leave until she got her answer.

The question, however, concerning a late friend, died on her lips as she listened to the mother speak to her daughter. May, being who she was, never had been one to try to squeeze her way into another's business, but it seemed herself and Evie had picked the wrong day to meet. Her blood boiled with anger, and a distinctive craving. She was in no mood for anyone's s**t, today.

"Hey. There's no need to talk to her like that. The hell did she do to you?" It came out, much in the same manner as word vomit. It had surprised even her. She'd never been one to snap, period. She was more the type to back down and cry. Amazing what nicotine does to a person.

Tango, at her side went rigid at his mother's words. He'd never heard her come even remotely close to swearing, at all. He shot a curious glance at the woman from the corner of his eye. What, exactly was wrong with her lately?

His own orbs narrowed, before he turned his attention back on the Kiwi scented child's mother. He didn't understand why May, of all days, of all places, and of all people, decided to pick a fight here and now with this woman, but now that the words were in the air, he decided to watch the scene carefully.

After all.

May was an idiot. She had no idea what she was getting herself into, half the time.

Evie gave May a look that indicated the woman was worth less than s**t on a shoe to ******** off," she said in a monotone. "Go away. Go home. Leave me the ******** alone."

"Stop it."

Evie spared Ana a glance and was surprised by the tears in the teenager's eyes. Her hands were glowing so bright Evie had to shade her eyes.

"Ana, cut the lightshow."

Ana shoved her hands into her pockets, her face bunched up like a raisin and tears leaking in ones and twos down her face.

"You're being horrible. Stop it."

Evie only began to look angrier, and turned her head away. She spat on the ground in venomous contempt.

"What the hell do you all want from me?"

Tango couldn't help the sneer that worked its way across his face. Did she really just spit on the ground? Really? Okay. Cool. Apperently it was good to know she was a he-man early on in the game, he supposed. His fists found their way back into his pockets, his usual stance. Discreetly he took a step forward and one to the left, standing only slightly in front of May. Apperently, she, and he- for that matter- never seemed to learn their lessons.

May, who'd caught sight of the 'lightshow' glanced at the green child from the corner of her eye, before all the pieces fell into place. Of course. She was just like Tango, wasn't she? It made sense, when she stopped to truly think about it. The haze, however, that her mind was in didn't allow her to dwell on the topic for long, as she shot her brown gaze on the woman before her.

"You knew Carrie, didn't you?" Though it was a question, it came out as a statement. Of course she already knew this answer. Anastasia had already spilled the beans. Now she was dancing on needles, she knew. Her stomach twisted a bit, but she pushed on, not willing to be frightened into appeasing the woman before her. "And Polly? Did you know him? How about Lore?" Her eyes narrowed a bit, as she took in a deep steadying breath. "Did you know that Carrie?"

Evie staggered as though May had struck her in the face.

"You shut up," she said, voice dangerously low. "Shut up."

But May didn't shut up. Evie turned her head away, tears starting to fall again. Pollux. Pollux she knew. Who was Lore?

Who cared. They were all dead. Dead, gone, and forgotten, except for Evie, the only one who'd seemed to care they were there at all. Taking confidence from her own self-conviction, Evie turned and looked at May, took a step forward and drew in a deep ******** OFF!"

"No." This was stern and a shiver ran it's course down her spine as she stood her ground, for the first time she could ever remember. Her hands balled into fists at her side, her knuckles going white from the strain she placed on them, as her hands shook. Her nails dug into the skin, creating those damn crescent cuts in her palm. She could feel the blood, but couldn't stop herself from digging deeper, deeper.

Tango this time didn't try to act nonchalant or discreet. He quickly took another step until he was in front of May, his hands coming out of his pockets. He wasn't sure what he was going to do, but he knew that the woman before him wasn't going to get away with laying a finger on May. Not on his life. His eyes narrowed and an almost feral growl came from his throat.

Her son's protective acts were almost a second nature to her. She barely recognized that he had, once again, stuck himself in the middle of a potentially dangerous situation. Not that she thought much of this bitter woman in front of her. She was-

"Pathetic." The word came out in a sneer. "You can't even talk about it? Do you think you are the only <********> one who cares they are dead?" She couldn't stop herself now. "Pathetic." She laughed. Bitter and angry. "Get over yourself. Don't act like you are the only person hurting." God, did she despise this woman in front of her.

"Listen here, you worthless sack of meat," Evie said, her voice rough and gravelly. "I've dealt with it for nearly a year, alone. I've hurt, alone. I spend every ******** minute ALONE. How sweet, you showing up out of the blue and being a ray of goddamned ******** sunshine. You wanna share stories? Here's one! I knew Carrie half my life. She was closer t'me than a sister. We'd talk for hours, into the early hours of the morning. She was the only one ever made me feel like I wasn't a total worthless skid."

Evie took a deep breath, cricking her head to one side and sighing as bones popped in her neck. Her eyes were slit, her expression pure venom.

"Don't ever think you ******** know me from a hole in the wall, you b***h," she said. "Go ******** jump into traffic and splatter on the street, do us all a ******** favor."

May opened her mouth to retort, her anger boiling in her.

Tango beat her to the punch. "Enough."

She was certain that he was talking to her. Or both of them, perhaps. But he distinctively wanted her to stop. Yet his eyes stayed trained on the woman before them, his body tensed, almost as if ready to pounce.

She couldn't blame him for wanting to stop. Despite however Tango may act, he did care, and she knew she was acting out of character. And at this point- she did know she was dealing with a very dangerous person if handled wrong. Still- all she could see was red, and the burning need her body was thrashing at her. It wasn't a fix, arguing with this woman. But it was the closest she had at the moment.

It worked just as well. Serving to release all that pent up anger and sorrow. It worked the same in that it got her away from the hurt and allowed her to lay the blame on someone else. She ached for this.

"May," He warned. "You've done enough."

She knew that. Damn it, she knew. But knowing, she realized now, didn't help either of them

"You talk big, don't you? You like to act like the star in the center of your own stage. Well, maybe if you opened your buggy little eyes, you'd have seen you didnt have to suffer alone, now did you? You had little Anastasia there the whole time, didn't you? You didnt have to suffer alone, you chose to. You wanted to wallow in your own self pity."

She took a deep breath. Who was she to talk to this woman like this? She had know idea what kind of relationship she had had with Carrie. What right did she have? None, May realized, darkly. She had no right to tell Evie any of this. Yet-

"So maybe you are right. Maybe I dont know you. But I did know Carrie. And apparently in my short time since meeting her, I got to know her far better then you ever did. Because if you knew Carrie worth two shits, you would know she wouldn't want you to waste your life away. Pathetic."

Evie listened, gritting her teeth and clenching her fists so tightly blood began to run down her fingers in runnels. Her head bowed down. She looked every bit of what she was - an angry, miserable, hateful person, uncaring of anything anymore.

But when Carrie's name came up again...

"JUST LEAVE ME ALONE!"

Evie swung a hand back and slapped May as hard as she could, leaving a bloody smear across the other woman's cheek.

"Where were YOU? I didn't even ******** know you existed, you piece of s**t!" Evie shrieked, sobbing. "GO TO HELL!"

Ana looked on in pure, utter horror, a black dragging sense of grief gnawing at her. A few more tears slipped down her face, and she turned away. She'd tried. She really had. But there was nothing more she could do for Evie, she saw it now.

The hand had come upon her so fast she had barely any time to recognize what was happening before she could feel the wet smack of a hand against her face. The force of the blow had her head turning to the side, a metallic taste filling her mouth. She knew within an instant the liquid draining into her mouth was the same substance that now stained her cheek.

Something inside her died. She felt her mind shut down, and her body quickly started to power down as well. She could only stare glossy eyed at the floor, not moving her head for a moment.

It hurt. God, did it hurt. It wasn't like she had always pictured it. She thought it was a short pain, something quick, overwritten by the anger one felt. She thought, if ever she came upon this very situation, she'd be so mad that her return attack would be instantaneous. She thought a lot of things. She had played scenarios like this in her head, now and again, and for each ending she had come up with-not a damn one consisted of her slowly moving her head back, to stare at her assailant with wide, wounded eyes.

None had consisted of her dropping to her knees hands falling to the ground around her, feeling the throbbing pain in her cheek, that was quickly turning the tender flesh numb. She'd be sporting a new bruise, she knew. She didn't cry. Wouldn't cry. Not for such a horrible person. For all that she was and all that she wasn't, May had some strand of self respect, and knew now, she could not cry in front of such a miserable person. Not today, not tomorrow, not three years down the line.

"Funny." She murmured, barely audible over the sound of Tango shouting her name. "I could say the same thing."

And it was true. She'd never known there was an Evie before. She knew there was a Polly, she knew there was a Carrie and she knew a Lorelei. Never had she heard of an Evie.

To say the young male scent was pissed was an understatement. He'd turned the moment May had dropped to her knees, and watched her sit on the ground. He had heard someone yelling her name, but hardly recognized the sound, the voice as his own.

It had taken him two seconds to turn back to face the other woman. His eyes flashed dangerously. "You'll ******** regret that." He hissed out. "I swear to whatever god you pray to, you better hide your a**. Because you will regret that." He knew there was nothing he could do now. But so help him- he'd take care of the b***h. Even if he had to grab Adrian, he'd make sure she never even breathed in May's direction again.

"Anastasia, you better take home this piece of s**t now." He growled throwing back the words at the mother. "That is, if you still want her. I'd throw away such a useless woman, if I were you. You have no need for this thing. A brick wall would make a better mother then her. At least it would treat you with some form of respect and worth"

And he turned away from Evie for a moment to shoot an apologetic look at the green haired child. He wasn't sure if he was sorry that she was stuck with this woman, or if he was sorry for his words- when he was sure the caring female wouldn't want to hear them, but he was sorry none the less.

Then, again, he turned his attention back to Evie, his arms spread out in a protective stance over May, his eyes narrowing to a glare. He swore, if not to this waste of space, then to himself, she'd come to regret this day.

Ana stood quiet and still as a statue, hands in her pockets. She slowly removed one to wipe at her eyes, and the distressed glow coming off them was so bright it was actually painful to look at.

"Please don't talk to me that way, Tango," she said quietly. "It's very hard to hear."

She looked at Evie, black eyes teary and exhausted.

"You were never alone, Evelyn. I was always there. Always."

She looked Evie straight in the eye, and it was Evie who looked away.

"I think...it's time we left these people alone," she said finally in the tense, spiraling silence. "You've done enough damage and said enough terrible things for one day."

Evie looked stunned at Ana's words at first, then rebellious. Then she shrugged it off, uncaring. She transferred her attention to Tango instead, remote and dead-hearted. Anything left of the person she was, what she was meant to be, was being smothered to death by this terrible, cold new person she had become. If she could remember how, she would have been screaming for help.

Instead, she smirked in a way that made her look wicked and awful, and turned away, disappearing into the crowd and leaving them all behind.
