"Erm... it's just that. I ... that sounds familiar," she said quietly. Which wasn't a question, but ...
"Is it like... things are kind of fuzzy around the edge? A-and maybe colors fade out a little?" she asked then, ears going back. Because, at night... that was how the world was starting to look to her. She could see fine during the day, but when it got dark, it was a different story.

He wrinkled his snout and though his hackles rose he made no move to attack or to turn away. As if her saying these things made his vision worse he narrowed his eyes further.
After a moment of careful consideration he nodded and his muzzle smoothed. He looked a little forlorn, a little as if he was turning back to the edge of despair. But he shrugged off the self-pity and moved closer again.
"When I come close to you." He said slowly. "Like this. Everything is fine. I can see yah markings and the details in yer eyes and everything. Then...I step away a little bit and yah...yah kind of just, haze, right? I can't see yer markings so well and everything gets soft and...kinda...mixed and slanty." He shook his head. "It's like looking through a sheet of water, yeah?"

Almost reluctantly, Kya nodded at that, feeling almost a little bit sick in the pit of her stomach. "Yea... something like that," she agreed softly.
"I thought that maybe I was imagining things... but when it gets darker, at night, it... things kind of look like that to me. It's ... scary," she admitted with a little shiver.

A little voice whispered in Cassian's head, then, that he wasn't alone. That he wasn't the only lion in the world who had eyes that didn't work the way they were supposed to.
But it didn't help lift his hope all that much.
It just meant he was one of a handful of lions who couldn't perform as they were supposed to.
"Then close yer eyes at night and you won't even know." He snapped suddenly, though there were no aggresive stances to show that he was angry. "You can still see by day. Still see the damned prey enough to hunt it." He shook his head. "It's hard to see at night anyway."
He shook his head as if he were weary. Weary of what? Of life? Maybe so.

Kya winced slightly at that. That was true... he had it worse off than she did. "I know. I wasn't trying to ... say that it was exactly the same. I just ... wanted to know if that's what it was like," she murmured, sounding a little reluctant.
She hadn't meant to hurt him.
But it seemed a little like she had, anyway. "Uhm. If you want, I could ... maybe help you catch something now?" she offered tentatively.

He was a boy cursed with great pride and that was probably the main reason why he was taking this so badly. He took a step back and let the dark tufts of mane fall into his eyes.
"Well it is." He replied sharply. "And it isn't going to go away either."
Maybe if he'd taken a moment to realise that she was actually trying to help, Cassian wouldn't have been so offended by her last words. All he saw was another jibe at his dependancy on others to survive.
"No." He made to turn away now and with a low growl, began his way through the undergrowth. "Stay away from me, right?"

Kya winced slightly at that. "A-all right... I'm sorry for bothering you then," she called softly. She hadn't meant to sting his pride, though she realized now that that's exactly what she had done.
Still, in a way, she was glad that she had talked to him. Because now she knew a little more about herself, and she felt like he had opened up a bit.

And as Cassian walked away, back into the trees that cast bars of shadows across his body, he felt himself grow sad. Knowing that he wasn’t going through this alone didn’t seem to help him. Having someone sympathise with him didn’t help.
Nothing would help.
He cast one last glance back to see if he could see her but the leaves had already hidden her from view. He mouthed a silent thank you and disappeared.
((Yup! Thanks for the RP, I’d love them to meet again some day after his plot and things have lightened up for him.))
