Kaze was pulled slowly into this back-and-forth game. Now it was her turn.

This time she spoke the lyrics. Her words were soft and quiet, but there was particular harshness in her voice. Kaze could barely hear herself, that was how quiet she sang. Her words were not directed at Taelence, more at herself.

As soft as those words were, Taelence picked up on them.

Whether she wanted to or not, Tael played the game. She couldn't understand it anymore than she understood coming out here looking for Kaze. But it didn't seem to matter anymore anyways.

Kaze heard Taelence. She swished her tail and stood up. Walking away she sang in her head.

The voice had stopped and whom ever it was was walking away. Taelence sighed and got up. She walked in the opposite direction of the voice, batting at reeds and chasing the fireflies.
"This night is too pretty to enjoy alone," she said to herself. She stopped and looked behind her. "I don't want to be alone tonight, or any night." She sighed again.
Taelence wasn't a solitary creature. She loved being around others, she thrived in their presence.
"Bringing Cho out here would have been more pleasant than someone who won't show themselves to me," she grumbled. "Maybe I really should head home. To Cho and Amber and Crimson and Izzy. They won't ignore me. And they certainly wouldn't throw things at me!"
Taelence sat down in a huff. Now she wished someone would come get her. Being alone was no fun.

Good, she gave up. I'm not worth saving. Frankly, I'm far beyond help. My life is a downward spiral I'm stuck in. Kaze rubbed her clipped wing. She wanted to go back to her den, but it was in the opposite direction. She sighed and prepared to fly again.
She took off and looked straight forward. She didn't fly as fast as before, so she didn't hurt her wings. Right now, she didn't care if Tael saw her or not. It didn't matter anymore.

Taelence watched in surprise as another fox flew from the trees.
Kaze? she thought. That's whom I've been singing to? Why? Why is she here?
Tael wanted answers. She took off, darting into the underbrush. She didn't need sight; her ears would find Kaze for her. There was no mistaking the flapping of wings and whether Kaze cared or not, her broken wing made it even easier to track her.
I'm going to get my answers! Taelence thought furiously. I want to know why she saw fit to throw that tree branch at me. And play with me!
She darted quietly, keeping up with the mysterious fox.

Kaze flew up. Higher and higher, until she reached a tall oak tree. She landed and hissed. Rubbing her wing she whimpered a bit. What do you want? She glared down at Taelence. You're not gonna get me. You'll never understand. No one does. Her red eyes were full of sadness and pain, not anger.
Without wings, Taelence wouldn't be able to get high in the tree easily. Kaze sat and watched. My words are cold, I don't want them to hurt you. What's wrong, what's wrong now? Too many, too many problems.... Just let me live my life. What would you do, you do if you knew? What would you do....

Taelence stopped at the big oak tree that Kaze had flown into. She was barely winded. She glared up at the black fox in the tree.
"Damn it Kaze!" she yelled, furiously. "Why in the Goddess's name would you throw a branch at me?! I demand an answer. And don't even think about flying away. I'm a better climber than I look and I'm also in better shape than you are. Your wing hurts too much to fly on. I'll be there when it gives out and you're really going to hate me then!"

I didn't mean to throw it at you! I got upset and threw it and the dumb branch had to land right by you! It's not my fault!! Kaze yelled in her mind. If anyone were to look in her eyes and find the true message, they would see she didn't mean for the branch to hurt Taelence, or even come close to her.
See here? I was right all along. You're just like everyone else. So full of yourself, demanding things that aren't your right to demand of someone. Pampered, spoiled, house pets is what you are. You could never survive one day without your luxuries. And here I thought you weren't like the others, but you proved me wrong. Congrats.

Taelence grinned wickedly.
"So that's how we're going to play it huh?" she took a running leap and bounded up the first couple of branches. She grinned up at Kaze. "I told you I was a better climber than I looked." she leapt up until she was eye level with Kaze but not on the same branch, just the one about a foot away from it.
"Running away from me doesn't help whatever it is that's bothering you," she said staring deeply into the Angelic's eyes without fear. "Just because things have been terrible before doesn't mean I'm going to be the same. But I can't prove that to you if you won't even let me talk to you!"
I'm going to show you that you can trust me, Tael vowed. I swear it!

You are. You're the same as them. All talk. Cheap, meaningless talk. I don't talk you idiot. How long will it take for you to figure that out?! Taelence had her all wrong. Kaze could withstand more pain than Tael thought.
I don't care how good of a climber you are. Nothing matters to me anymore. I'm barely holding on to what I have. Now, I bid you farewell.
With that, Kaze took off in the direction of her home, slowly, careful not hurt herself or her wings. Yeah, but you can't fly.

Taelence took off after Kaze, jumping from branch to branch. It wasn't hard to keep up. Kaze couldn't fly very fast and Taelence had been right; she was in better shape. Sprinting sand dunes was trickier than this. Soon she was pacing herself right along with Kaze. She looked over at the vixen and smiled.
"How long do you think you can keep that up? Your wing is going to give out soon. You're not build for long distance flying anymore. If you're lucky, I might be able to catch you." Taelence kept up, taking longer strides.
If I wasn't so upset this might actually be fun! she thought. I'll have to do this when I'm not chasing after a crazy fox.

Kaze picked up the speed she flew at earlier when she flew above Taelence. Ha, have fun with that!
She landed outside a house and turned around. Taelence was nowhere insight. Kaze let out a breath and walked into her den. Rayna was already inside. She went down and laid down. Neither of them said a thing.

Taelence watched Kaze pick up speed and she dropped below the top tree line. She watched as the lone fox walked into her den and Taelence stopped. It was one thing to bother a fox outside of her home, another to barge in uninvited.
So Tael stood at the tree line and waited.

Kaze sighed and stretched. Now, she was in the comfort of her own home. She didn't have to worry about Taelence for the time being. "Rayna," she spoke quietly in her unused voice.
"Huh?" Rayna walked over to Kaze, a bit astonished, and sat. "Yeah?"
Kaze grabbed a pad and pen and scribbled something and showed it to Rayna.
"An orange, yellow, and white fox? Who is she? I believe that's Taelence you're referring to."
Kaze nodded and walked over to the window by the door. She sat and looked out at the scenery.
