Yeah, tampons have always been painful for me, too, when I take them out. Now I know why smile I only use them if I'm swimming, and even then I try not to take a dip while I'm bleeding.

A convert? Huzzah. You'll love your menstrual cup, in a totally platonic way of course. [:

The company that makes the Keeper also makes a silicone version for ladies with latex allergies. smile I ordered the silicone version a few weeks ago. As a virgin, I found that I had to stretch my lady parts out a bit to get it to go in and out properly. (I have no hymen for some reason.) The first few attempts were... painful, to say the least, but now it goes in and out without too much of a fuss. I'm looking forward to using it when my next cycle comes around - I've always hated the hot, bunchy, damp feeling of pads.

Pads would always end up giving me the equivalent of diaper rash by the end of my period. Not pleasant!

Childhood Dreams Can you tell me where it's sold? I went to Walgreens, Whole Foods, and Walmart looking for one, but couldn't find it. My mum got me those INSTEAD Cups instead, because she wanted me to see if I was okay with the feeling of them. But since my period ended unexpectedly short, I never really got the chance to try one on today.
But having the INSTEAD Cups kinda goes against the whole reason I wanted to try the DivaCup to begin with; no waste. There are several companies that sell reusable menstrual cups, actually. Mooncup UKKeeper/Mooncup USLunetteDiva CupLady CupFemmecupMiacupAnd finally, here is a support site for ladies trying to use menstrual cups.Generally speaking, you can order them online. I ordered the Mooncup US because the company has a three month return policy. DivaCup does not.

Yay! It's so awesome to hear great this about the diva cup! I've been interested in getting one for quite some time.
Question...when taking it out, does it get messy? I just don't want to be in public or at someone else's home and get all messy. And how is it wearing it at night?

Apparently they work quite nicely overnight. I don't think going to a friend's house would be a problem, since you generally rinse it off and maybe wash it with a bit of soap between insertions on your period. For public restrooms, people often recommend wiping it off with baby wipes or whathaveyou. You can watch this video for a brief explanation of how they work. You might also look here for more information on public restroom use.

I either use paper towels (grab a few before I use the stall) or the sink if it's one of those small private bathrooms.

how long can you usually keep it in? and is it like tampons in the sense that you can't feel them? okay and here's my last question - how FAR does it have to go in? do you have to stick your fingers up there quite a bit?

If you look on the websites of the various companies that make them, you'll find the answer to most, if not all of your questions.

Berts little black cat how long can you usually keep it in? and is it like tampons in the sense that you can't feel them? okay and here's my last question - how FAR does it have to go in? do you have to stick your fingers up there quite a bit? Up to 8 hours is the recommended time for my diva cup. I usually changed it every three or 4 hours when my period is at its heaviest. I'll keep it in longer towards the end of my period. Yup. You don't notice it at all. They sit pretty low. You shouldn't have to insert your fingers far at all to grasp the end. Most come with an end attached to help you grasp but alot of people either cut them off completely or reduce the length. I cut the end off completely of my diva cup and it's fine.

Awesome video. She reminded me of Mrs. Doubtfire for some reason. It's amazing what you can find on YouTube. Sure beats being thrown a informational brochure and being told "here, read this".
I'm lucky and have light periods, so I'm bad and only change it once a day. I'm a shower addict, so I usually do everything there.

Good luck!
I ended up ordering my Mooncup last month while I was actually on my period, so I was just finishing up when the thing got here. This actually turned out to be for the best, since it's given me time to figure out how to use it properly, as well as get my vaginal entrance stretched out a bit so putting it in and taking it out isn't tantamount to Medieval torture. xd (I'm a virgin who has never used tampons before, so... yeah.)
