I personally love both the orchestra and the singing. The experience is not the same without both.

i really liked it all. they picked wonderful singers for the whole thing. they were all very good, in my opinion. but the full orchestration of all of the instrumental music was just breath taking. i was hoping that for the movie ALW would fully orchestrate and not just have the pit band playing for the movie so it was amazing to hear a great full orchestra playing and the addition of the Guitars and stuff not to mention the 15 minutes of new musical material that ALW wrote for the movie. it was amazing and more often do you hear all the underlying themes come out in the full orchestration. the masqurade theme appears more now than it did and if you listen really closely you can pick it out in some great minor keys! love it!!!
ok...i am way to much of a music nerd to have analysed the music this much
LOL! Ya know, I actually do the same thing, listening really closely to the music and analyzing it to death! I often pick up major themes in many of the songs, such as Masquerade, and the beginning of All I Ask of You. The themes in Down Once More/Track Down This Murderer are more obvious though. In a part of it, Erik actually sings a bit of Piangi's (or was it that other guy who played Passarino?) part from
Don Juan Triumphante, where he's singing something about "no compassion anywhere" or something. It's so fun to listen closely to the music and analyze it and pick out little details in it. It really heightens the listening experience, and I just appreciate the music much more that way.

Depending on the cast, the vocals can be wonderful, but I must admit I love the instrumentals. I know how powerful the voice can be and it is an instrument unto itself, but I think the orchestra is what supports the vocalist. I love tuning out the singers for the simple instrumental -- PONR especially...
Omg, me too! I love to listen to the orchestra in The Point of No Return. There's just something so intense about it that gives me this weird tingly feeling.
...Yep, I'm a music nerd all right...
