Dusty smiled at the compliment. Usually she would say something like 'Of course I do.' or, 'You'd better believe it!' but instead, she blushed slightly and nuzzled his cheek. "Well you know, every princess needs a knight."
The mare eyed the path before following him. This would hopefully prove eventful, and she'd at least have a chance at getting a new flower. "We're off to see the Wizard?" She wasn't exactly sure what that meant, but she'd heard her two-legger say it whenever they were off to do something important.

Eton had tilted his head to the side and smiled, a knight, did she really see him as such? Perhaps she did. perhaps she didn't but he still smiled at her, turning to one side and made an 'after you gesture' with a wing, his head lowering some. One leg pulling back as he bowed a little as if really in the presence of a princess who had him as her personal guard.
"A wizard could be living up upon that mountain, but we won't know that until we get there." he grinned straightening up again, "now will we?"
He chuckled a bit as he moved back to Dusty's side, not willing to really leave it. It would have been really gentlemanly if he happened to leave his lady fair in a place where no one was really safe with dragons and worse slinking around in the shadows. He would have to be on his guard there was no telling where something would strike when they enter the haunted Wood at the base of the mountains. But also that was across fair valley where the light always chased the shadows of night away leaving everything fair and sunny...

Dusty smiled at him. "Why thank you." She began a slow gallop and slowed down when she got ahead of him, waiting patiently for him to return to her side.
"Well I suppose we won't. I sure hope that it's a nice wizard, though. I scare easily and wouldn't want to get hurt. Or worse; lose another orchid." How awful it would be to lose another. She often found herself twisting around to adjust the orchid that once belonged in her tail, only to find it missing.
The mare wished she knew where they were going. But in a way, she enjoyed the mystery. It was one reason she'd agreed to go on this 'quest'.

He wasn't left behind quite so easily as when she set forward he was quick to pick up behind her, remaining a few paces behind. Wings folded to his sides as it under a cloth that coated his back in his mind. He could hear it flapping as he went as he could hear the rustling of Dusty's imaginary skirts as she galloped before him. When she stopped and looked toward the white capped mountains and seemed to go into thought.
"That is a good question, but I imagine that it will be a nice one. One who can tell us where we can find you an Orchid to replace the one that you've lost." He nodded, "But first we have to pass through the Fair Valley, then into the Haunted Forest. Then to the castle near the top of the mountain. It will be dangerous, but never fear, nothing will harm the Lady fair." He smiled moving forward a little again.
Watching the open, his eyes scanned the wide open space. soon he looked skyward to make sure that nothing soared over head, it was all clear. Nothing for miles, if they went at a good pace, they could cross the valley, which was little more then an open field or sorts, and make it to the woods at the base of the mountains by dark.
"If we keep going straight through the valley to the other side, only stopping at the Mythic Pool in the center to get something to drink. We can make it to the forest by night fall. Unless you wish to remain near the pool until tomorrow... Up to you M'Lady."

The mare had to stifle a laugh at the names her friend had made up for all of the places they would go. What an imagination he had. One anyone, including her, should envy. Her ears perked at the thought of a 'Haunted' forest.
"Oh goodness, Eton. I'm not sure I'd want to spend a night in the Haunted Forest. Unless you'll promise to stay close and protect me from things that go 'bump' in the night." In reality, she did believe in ghosts, and surely wouldn't want to be alone if she'd encountered one. Even if it was a nice ghost like her 'aunt' Midori had told her of when she was a small foal.
Would it be better to go all the way to the forest? It would make time go faster, but if they were going to go, they'd better be moving fast. The sun looked like it was ready to begin setting. "You know these lands better than me. I think you should make that decision. Though in either case, we should get going."

Eton watched Dusty as she seemed to laugh at the place he had named off, before glancing toward the skies as indeed they did seem to darken at one end. Night was indeed coming and sooner then he had expected... Where had the day gone? Looking out over the valley to where the pond lay glittering brightly in the sun's light then over toward the trees that made up the woods. They could make it there that afternoon into early evening he thought, Maybe.
"A knight would never leave their lady alone in places like that." He looked toward her in mock seriousness before a smile broke it. "We can make it to the Haunted forest by nightfall." he nodded as he stepped forward. "I can always send Smit forward and scout ahead to make sure that nothing's there."
He hoped that it might help to send his imaginary friend a head of them to make sure that nothing was around. To Eton's mind's eye, Smit was dressed in a squire's outfit with a crazy little hat on his head. Though the small creature glared toward his larger charge, Eton paid him no mind, thinking that it wasn't of importance as he kept heading forward until his walk was an easy trot. Pastel eyes always looking around before heading skywards. Though his hooves remained earth bound and wings to his sides, he also kept an ear back toward Dusty, though he thought she was always at his side...

She grinned at the name 'Smit.' "I haven't heard that in a while. How's old Smitty doing? Still as creative as you, I imagine?"
Dusty stayed close by her friend's side, the thought of ghosts still fresh in her mind. There would be no being alone until she was sure that nothing was going to pop out and scare her. Her mane bounced lightly as she trotted, threatening the flowers in it, but they managed to hold tight in their spot.

Turning his head to one side, he almost had stopped when she asked of Smit. Yes, it had been a while since he had mentioned the frisky little critter that had always been hanging around him. He had almost forgotten about him, until something struck him in the back of his mind. Smit was still there, brooding about his misplacement.
"Smit is his usual self as always. He hasn't changed much since we were kids. Always brooding over something and causing headaches." Eton chuckled shaking his head as an ear twitched as if hearing something no one else could. "Oh hush Smit and scurry a head now. Go on."
There was much a mumble in the back of his mind as his small squire scampered away from them. Even if Eton was the only one that could see him. He had to sigh though, he wished all his friends could see Smit like he did, maybe someday the great spirits would allow it. Maybe... Shaking the thought from his mind, Eton looked around to where they had come to. They were nearly to the pond and there it seemed they would stay as it seemed that the sky was now darker then moments before.
"My where has the day gone?" he wondered coming to a halt beside the pond, though keeping his guard up not wanting to get jumped.

Dusty couldn't help but smile when Eton began talking to his imaginary friend. It was oddly comforting to have Smit go ahead of them.
Her smile turned to a mock frown when he stopped. "Oh, but Eton..." The mare was whining. "I so wanted to be able to spend a night in the Haunted Forest. Who knows what adventures whe would come across there?" She dipped her head down slighty above the water, appearing to get ready to take a drink. But all she did was look at her reflection in the remaining dim reflection of the pond's surface.

[[ Woops. xD Almost a month. Bad me ]]
Head tilting to the side a little, before his pastel gaze rose toward the still darkening skies. Soon it would really be too dark to see properly, but the moon was to be out and the stars would be all a lite. Lowering his gaze again toward the pool in thought. Eyes narrowing some as if he could see into the depths of the pool, though all there was was his reflection. An ebony ear twitched before he looked toward Dusty again, a smile stretching over his muzzle.
"Well of course we can still bed down by the haunted wood. True the sun may set, but we always can travel by moonlight." His head turning once more toward the skies and toward where the moon would be. "I dare anything that is cowardly enough to attack while the moon is full."
Though he really didn't think it wise for them to travel at night. Many things roamed the night looking for food and other unworthy travelers that happened to intrude upon their domain. Eton was willing to do most anything for his Dusty, even if that meant that he would keep her safe through the trip during the night. Wings stretching at his sides, Eton dipped his head to get a drink, expecting to move on when she was ready to.

Dusty giggled and nipped at the ebony stallion's pastel mane. "I was teasing, silly. I don't really think I want to see what's lurking in the shadows of the Haunted Forest." Grinning, she added, "Besides, my mane would probably get caught on a bush or something. We wouldn't want that, now would we?" She nuzzled his cheek before taking a drink. "So, my knight, where are we going tomorrow?"
