Uh oh. Watches the birds approach in horror. Umm....
Defense: Avis Repugno
Effect: keeps birds (and their byproducts) from landing on you. Mostly used by birders who want to keep their clothes clean.

The birds slam into me, shredding the protective barrier. There's a lot of them and they're pretty mad! Finally, they grow tired and fly off. Not much left to my fancy tunic and I'm pretty scratched up. The barrier helped me from being completely flattened but that was pretty bad.

Effect: The beautitude curse - Mesmerizes opponent with heavenly visions. They feel great but completely forgot they're in a duel.

I've been having a lucky run. Probably going to stop soon though sweatdrop
*thinks about a curse or jinx to throw at Diana for a long time*
I'm going to stick to the classics
Spell (offensive): ligo sursum lingua
Effect: Tongue-Tying Curse!!!
If everything goes to plan you'll be stuck for curses to throw at me for a while!!
(I had to make up that curse, as it is never said in the books, just it's casual name.) Oh, and also, if you do get hit by it, your next spell will have to be one that requires not saying the incantation.

Anyway my tongue rolls up, and I can't speak.
Yikes! Non -verbal spell from a first year? Good thing I've had some practice with the occult Guardianship spells. I had to be precocious and master those because you can't give those nasties any kind of heads up: Said silently: with wand flourish:
Attack: Sartorius profusio!
Effect: What Muggleborns call "The Rapunzel spell." It causes hair to grow rapidly and to follow the direction of the wand flourish - in this case to wrap the hair around the arms pinning them. In effect a full body bind with the bonus of extra shiny, ad-worthy hair.

What oh what is coming for me? I try to read Diana's face, try to gather what spell she could possibly be thinking of. In the end, I use a spell that is definitely banned from Wizarding testing, and for good reason. The logic quickening spell, also said nonverbally, and only allowed in nonverbal duels.
I flick my wand nonchalantly in the direction of my head and think the words: cito ratio
Then I wait until Diana's spell has been cast. I only need to see a few seconds of the spells effect in order to think of an awesome counter jinx. Diana casts her unheard spell, and the effects are instantaneous. My mousy brown hair starts to grow rapidly. The counter jinx already to mind I utter the words: alica talea forfex
Effect: The translation is, "spell cutting scissors", the effect of this spell is that it cuts off any enchanted hair from my head and neutralizes the attack.

(this duel is so mean, I'm so sorry that you've been hit so many times, but I haven't. I think it is really unfair scream )
The scissors cut off the enchanted hair in one snip and the spell ceases. I am a little bit sad about this, I've been meaning to grow out my hair for a while now, and it looked so good all shiny and luscious. Terrific spell there Diana, and from a first year too! Wow, Professor McGonagall is going to be so proud.. except the fact that we are dueling in the corridors..

Well, I could use to catch up on my sleep. I've had the flu for almost a week. I like your Avi -- is pretty in pink. Diana is kinda limited if I stick to her books she pretty much wears- ballet flats, leotard and jeans all the time, but she and I are definitely Gryffindors. OK. Can't delay the spell, but I've all but given up the hug and kiss from Neville.
Defense: Invigorium!
Effect: When said properly, with 3 quick circles, provides a surge of energy. In the same family of spells as Innervate, Invigorium acts kinda like triple expresso, and is much overused by students cramming for their O.W.L.s.

Wow, must be all that clean living. Or the fact I was too sick to go to the prom and had to buy this prom bow which doesn't line up with pony tail exactly and the Gods felt sorry for me.
Studies Ghoul. Hmmm...
Attack: Discodium!
Effect: causes opponent's arms to fling in the air, their feet to start stepping, their hips to gyrate and their mind to be overwhelmed with disco beat. Rumored to have been prepared as THE spell to vanquish You Know Who, but no one has dared to try it, or lived to tell the tale if they have. Opponents will dance themselves to collapsing and exhibit a preference for mirrored balls to the exclusion of everything else if not interventioned with.
(Nasty spell, but fun for on-lookers).

Wow, I would have loved to see Voldy defeated by that spell, but I cannot personally go out that way!

Effect: Makes the person the spell is cast at entirely uncool and unmusical. (I was saving this spell for the Hogwarts summer inter house dance to use on show off punks from other houses who tried to hit on my friends. I never expected to use it as a defense on myself!!)

After Diana's spell has hit me and started to take effect the defense starts to kick in. As my arms raise and my hips start to shake in time to the music in my head everything goes uncool. I start to dance out of time and my moves become seriously outdated and flinch worthy. It doesn't take long before the laws of humiliation force me to stop dancing and hang my head.
Well, I may be embarrassed, but at least I'm still upright and healthy!
Hmm, since you forced dance humiliation onto me, I think it is only fitting to do the same to you.

oh man, a wave of uncoolness floods over me. Neville will never give me the time of day, now! I can't manage to hold onto my wand and compass at the same time and to my horror, what I ate for lunch seems to building to a serious case of flatulence! I bury my head in my hands, waiting for the uncoolness to pass. (no pun intended).
OK, one last chance: I summon my strength:
Caninium Mutifauna! Mu ha ha ha! The Ghoul will be licked, tailwagged, and pawed over, until she collapses into a fit of giggles as this spell summons myriads of oversized puppies, all focused on wanting to be adopted by her!
