"It's quite simple, really." He explained. "The controller is for navigating and you press the buttons on it to shoot. There should be a tutorial of sorts when you start." Most games did explain how it was played, except those that were pretty self-explanatory.
"You'll be fine." He assured, pressing the start button on his console.

Aurum was all ears as she listened to her friend's explanation, touching lightly the controller & buttons as they were mentioned with a thoughtful, learning expression. A flicker of uncertainty was washed into a smile at Josh's reassurance and she nodded, pressing her own start button firmly but with a little uncertainty.
oh well. She was in it now. Aurum held the controller in her paws and resolutely looked to the screen(?) for further instructions. Her ears were pulled out of her way in readiness. It was an almost comical way to approach a game, but it was as if this was just a new facet of her studies or training. Aurum Elric was ready to learn.

Blue eyes glanced at her before they flicked back to the screen of his own game. He needn't be so worried about her, really. It was just a game.
Perhaps it was because he had lost his friends that he had somehow gained a deep-rooted fear of losing any more. That, and he remembered the dangers of their missions, although this was just a game.
A game, where he was supposed to have fun.
He waited for the game to start, paws gripping the controller. It was a little different, seeing that he had no thumbs, but the magic door, had, as Aurum explained, configured it to be 'kitsufied'.
"Woo-hoo! Take that!" He yelled, swerving the defender out of the way of enemy ships, whilst firing at them.

okay... fly like this, shoot like that. Aurum read the directions with glances to the controller accompanied by little practice motions of doing so before the game actually began.
And then she was there. Green eyes wide and bright with the thrill of it as she turned her defender to avoid an enemy ship and its firing. Her own crimson wings spread and angled as if on some way trying to fly through space on their own. Belatedly Aurum fired her ship's weapons, having forgotten that part of the game. Unfortunately she was not nearly as good at shooting -or hitting- as she was at the actual flying. It was possible her natural ability to fly was giving her an aptitude in understanding how a ship might have to move. Whatever the reason, though she gained very few points for taking down enemies (those she did get seemed to be flukes) her defender was coming through unscathed.
She did not exclaim or otherwise say anything. However her small body showed hints of the energy, excitement, & adrenaline that was resulting from her enjoyment of the game as she moved 'with' her ship having it dodge everywhere, only pulling back on speed when there was a need to do so. Her eyes remained bright and Aurum was smiling to match even in her concentration. She was really getting into this.

He himself was the expert, of course. Josh had always bragged that there wasn't an action game he couldn't get a high score on, but that was also quite true. That high difficulty level arcade with the crazy woman in charge was a fluke though.
Then again, he was usually the one in charge of the hornet's controls, being the team leader, so he did have a lot of experience in flying. It wasn't surprising to him when the game ended, and it proclaimed he had gotten a high score. Besides, they were the first ones to play it!
He had almost beaten his old high score though. With a wistful sigh, he glanced over at Aurum. "So, how was it?"

The white and gold femme lowered her crimson wings to he back, a slightly breathless look about her as she turned to grin brightly at her friend. Her score was... well almost nonexistent, but she had made it through all the levels. There was a starstruck look in her green eyes. "Awesome! Oh! I bet flying a real one -defender, right?- is even more exciting!"
Golden tails wagged and Aurum glanced at the screens seeing the scores then ducked her head sheepishly though still fairly glowing with enjoyment of the game. "uh... I think I totally forgot to shoot things though..." Aurum giggled, head slightly tilted down but green eyes lifting to smile at her friend. It had been so much fun though! She did not mind forgetting to shoot really, but felt bad that she had not played the game right.

"That he is." He said, bobbing his head, that wistful look clouding over his face again. Fluffy gave a reassuring squeak, and he smiled down at the ultrapet. At least someone he knew was here with him.
"Well, you did pretty well for your first time." He laughed. He was a much experience flyer than she was, after all. "So...wanna try something else?"

Wow. So that was really like flying the real thing? Aurum glowed with happiness, her gold tails wagging softly with it. Sure it was not like flying flying through space… but from what she had read about no air & no gravity it was the closest she could ever come to really flying in space. The real thing was anyway. So that made this probably the closest she would be able to come to that.
Her smile of gratitude was natural & easy at Josh’s reassurance & especially seemed happy for the sound of his laughter. It was an especially nice sound after that wistful look which made the youngest Elric wonder if he was missing flying… or his friends & family. “Oh yes, please! Definitely! Why don’t we try all the games you’ve been missing before the others?”

To tell the truth, Josh missed both...no, everything. Everything about his previous life, and all the fun he had. Perhaps that was because he thought of the other more often when he was with Aurum; a friend made him think of another.
Another game hmm? His guardian had pointed to the dance machine and was looking excited. "Ah welllll. I'm not good at dancing." He gave a sheepish grin. "But Yoko's really good at it. Fluffy too...but well, I'm not sure if he still can. He's shrunk a lot."

Green eyes went to the dance game curiously. "Is it like doing forms?" Her smile was a little shy & bordered on giggling. "I can probably try. I'll try all the games."
Aurum paused and pawed at the floor in a shy manner. "But... I'd like to go back to a spaceship game again after."

He shrugged. "Kinda, I guess. I really really suck at it though. Those arrows confuse me." He wouldn't say he didn't have good hand-eye coordination; heck, he got an A in combat! But well, there were some things he couldn't do.
He flashed her a bright grin. "That's the spirit!" He was glad to see she enjoyed one of his favorite games.

She watched the demo mode for a while. So much going on at once... and having to watch the arrows too? No wonder anyone found it confusing! Training seemed much easier and made more sense. What was the point of this game really.
Aurum beamed in the light of her friend's smile. That was the point: to have fun. "Kay then! Let's both go super easy then try the next game!"
There was more than a bit of trepidation in her paws as Aurum attempted to blithely step up onto the dance platform. Oh dear. Well... at least there would not be a crowd when she tangled her paws together attempting this. Following the directions she set the game and readied herself to begin.

"Both?" He spluttered. Oh no, he didn't want to get on that. He was really clumsy, and looked pretty stupid, he was sure, when he was trying to dance. Fluffy chirped encouragingly and pushed Josh towards the console, inclining his head towards Aurum.
"Alright, alright, I'll do it." He grumbled. "It's your fault if I fail though." He told the ultrapet.
There was uncertainty on his face as he pressed the buttons and tried to follow the arrows. He could hit some of them, but it got a bit confusing sometimes with multiple arrows. "I forgot how much I sucked at this game." He commented, flailing about.

Just before they started Aurum gave her friend an anxious smile. Was this game really that detestable to him? Then she had no time to worry about that as arrows fell down the screen. Her green eyes were wide and sometimes crossed themselves as Aurum tried to follow them and match when they should be pressed with her paws on the pad. At the very first few steps it seemed simple enough but as more arrows came, faster, with multiples, and with the constant flashing of the background images of the game Aurum's head began to spin. It was annoying to know a step back sometimes missed the 'button' or misjudging when to jump for a multiple, but more than that... she found her paws were getting quite confused and so was she.
Her gold swirled white face was set in concentration & her long braid swung about with her motions. This. Was. HARD. When it ended the small female leaned against the safety railing and panted as she blinked her green eyes to attempt to put the rest of the room back into proper focus again. "Well... it's a good workout..."
It was said with the tone of one trying to find something good to say about a thing. Her white nose was already trying to crinkle in distaste that Aurum clearly did not want to show. Then... "It's not much like real dancing, is it?"
There was more respect and even a little joy in her voice for real dancing. She knew her daddy could waltz and sometimes on the weekends the family would have dance parties that though Aurum seldom joined she did like to look in on from time to time. Aiden & Trelweny sometimes did country folk dances which they were already teaching to Theron. So she knew dancing -and this did not seem much like any dancing she had seen.
That she had done abysmally at the game probably did not help her opinion of it. The minimum to get by without being completely booed out of the game.

No, Josh didn't hate the game.
He just hated playing it.
Though playing it brought back memories...when Yoko had been trapped in the machine, and he and Fluffy had to try and follow her moves, distracting her while Brett tried to hack into the system and get her out. That had been a thrilling adventure indeed, which worked out in the end, thankfully.
It was just that so many things here, even though it was the past, reminded him so much of his...previous life.
"Well, I don't know. Yo does this pretty well and she's a good dancer." He glanced at Fluffy, who was following along, and Josh suspected the ultrapet would do pretty well if he was bigger.
