Sometimes it's easy to forget how lucky we are to have understanding spouses. Riiku and I made the decision to adopt from the Cabbage Patch as it seemed like a good way to test our parenting skills. It will still be a lot of responsibility, but as I understand it, Patch children grow faster than human children do. I don't know, I'm sure someone out there probably thinks it's an irresponsible reason, but the truth is we do want children, but our lives are too hectic right now, this seemed.... easier. We decided on the name "Saburi", which is Swahili for "Patience". I'm hoping that it will serve as a reminder to us, and that it will serve as an anchor for our little one when they finally say hello for the first time. For the time being we're keeping the cabbage in our room. In the morning one of us takes the time to water it, and in the afternoon, then again at night. There isn't really much to it for the time but I already find myself thinking of it as a child. Sometimes I catch myself staring, wondering what will emerge. I've seen some of the children from this place and it's a wonder. After working with the Guardians and Orion's Karrick it looks like it should be quite a change. Only time will actually tell us, but I'm looking forward to finding out.
Oh, I'm so used to keeping a journal already that I didn't even think to introduce myself here! I'm Tahja Draven (Maiden name: Estes), recently married in 2006 to Riiku Draven. We live together in our home on the coast, parents to Kyou, Tessa, and Tony (My Guardian), both adopted, as well as several other companions that we've acquired over the years, including one impish feline (Marissa). That said I'm sure that we're actually quite prepared for parenthood. [She chuckled as she paused, writing on afterwards.] If I sounded uncertain before it's only because it's been some time since Tony was a kit, and I don't know what will be coming out of this cabbage plant. All the same, little one, I hope that you're prepared and I want you to know that you will never be in short supply of love. We're a very large family, but we've made a home here and we're all looking forward to welcoming you into it.
- With love, Mom
