"Yes, the lessons, but.." She started, but went silent, observing her roommate's ...unusual... behavior. That thing was alive....yes? At least it looked like it was? Then why was the girl throwing it into a drawer...? And then taking it out again?
"..Excuse me, but...what is this?"

Jiri froze and looked from to the villip to the slightly rattling drawer. She motioned to the thing on her sleepcouch first. "It's a villip. It works sort of like a comlink except it's organic."
The villip squelched at her, still indignant. The drawer rattled a response.
"And there's a robeskin in there," she added, pointing, "A living garment?"
She pulled up her tunic to give an example of what a robeskin was supposed to look like.
"Except that one's kind of mutating."

All other thougths and questions disappeared from her head at the last word.
"...Mutating." She once again looked at the drawer. Not good. "Is it going to eat us when we're asleep?"

Jiri shook her head. "I don't think so," she answered. "They mostly feed on dead cells and sweat."
She kicked the drawer again.
"It's been like that for weeks. It's not going anywhere."

"That's good." The girl calmed down. But as soon as the thing stopped being damgerous, it suddenly became interesting.
"Why did it mutate anyway? And how is it mutating?"

Jiri let out an exasperated sigh. It wasn't going to make sense if the girl didn't have any concept of the workings of Yuuzhan Vong biotech to begin with.
She tried to make it simple.
"It used to be part of the one I'm wearing, and I tried to split it so I'd have two, and the one I'm wearing turned out okay but I messed up the other one and it hasn't gotten its cell division under control yet."
Being the child of Shapers, she was allowed to talk like this.
It didn't mean she'd make any sense.

You could almost see three dots over Pala's head, as she stared in confusion. Then she tried to analyse what she just heard.
"...So..um...It's like an evil twin brother of your current clothes?"
...Not that her analysis would make any sense.

Oh. Now she understood. But it still left one question unanwsered.
"...Why are you keeping it in your drawer?"
"Why? I don't really know. My guardian sent for me, but when I arrived, I was just told to sit in my room and wait. And then one day he just said that it's okay now and I can go back." She shook her shoulders. :Talk about waisted time. But he usually knows what he's doing."
She just had no idea what was he doing this time.

That earned an odd look from Jiri. "You sat in your room for nearly a standard year?" she asked, and then looked back at the drawer which had, by now, fallen silent.
"It's in my drawer because I don't know what else to do with it."

"Well, I could move around the house in the evening...but yeah, mostly my room." The girl didn't see it as that odd. She was used to having as much (or as little) freedom, as others gave her.
"...." Pala also looked back at the drawer "..you could start by closing it more securely. So it won't find a way to crawl out."
It was only half a joke.

Jiri considered arguing, but decided the point was probably moot. Instead, she shoved a chair in front of the drawer.
"Does that make you feel any safer?" she asked.
This whole situation was beginning to feel incredibly silly.

"Probably." The girl nodded. Not that much, but enough. For now. The thought of a living being closed in a small container in her room, that she didn't know what would grow into, was unsettling by itself. "We'll think what to do with it later. So.." She decided it's time to change the subject. "On what hours do the classes start?"

"There'll be a bell," explained Jiri, settling onto her sleepcouch. She picked up the villip and tossed it from hand to hand absentmindedly. "But in the mornings they usually begin right after breakfast. We break for lunch, and then sometimes there are lessons or individual training sessions in the afternoon. A lot of times we get to work alone and independently."
This suited her just fine.
"We have lessons on academic subjects, too," she added.

The girl carefully remembered all of this. She already was behind a lot because of her disappearance, so now she can't miss even one lesson...
"..We work alone? Are we told what we should work on?"
