Though they hadn't been there before Kaimi's word allowed Bishop to see and hear a dozen or so blurs of random people cheering for them as they reached their goal. Almost.. almost " Yeeeah" Bishop gave an unusally loud cheer as she and her mount bolted across the finish line just ahead of Kaimi. Dizzy from the exileration of the game and all the rocking she'd done the young girl slumped forward to rest on the neck her now slowly stilling toy. This was the most fun she'd in as long as she could remember. not that Bishop could remember very far back, only her time with Carol and then a bit of the time she'd been alone. This was much better than all of that.

Turning her head she looked over at Kaimi and smiled "I'm dizzy, won't win again" This was a promise, a confession or possibly both.

Carol gave Naomi a sympathetic smile and shook her head " As long as you do the best you can I'm sure she'll be fine." Carol wasn't an expert on child raising but she knew that ones best intentions usually counted for something and even from her work in the store she knew that children could tell when you were really trying to say something to them or do something for them. If Naomi was sincere about being a good parent Carol doubted Kaimi would have any problems growing up.

Kaimi squealed in delight as Bishop won by a nose. She slid of her creature and wobbled a bit, her legs all jell-o-ey. She giggled as she fell on the ground, getting her skirt all dirty. "Good job!" She exclaimed, beaming. "You win! You should get a prize!" Prizes were a concept she was becoming familiar with. Naomi rewarded good behavior. Like pulling up the weeds instead of the flowers. Kaimi had won jellybeans previously, but she'd eaten them all. So she couldn't give those to Bishop as a prize.

Naomi took heart in Carol's words, and smiled back. "Thanks. I really thought I was prepared... knew what I was getting into. Turns out I was kinda wrong, though." She laughed a bit, nervously. "Life is an adventure, though."

"What's a prize?" Bishop asked confused. Still, the smile did not leave the girl's face as she questioned Kaimi. Nor did her body move of the toy just yet, Bishop didn't want to end up on the ground becuase she didn't think her legs would hold her up any better than Kaimi's did. Playing was very exhausting even if it was fun. Soon though the little owl girl would be on the move again seeking out new fun.

" An adventure with no map, no guidebook and everyone else on it has conflicting advice." Sometimes Carol wondered if life was a test for something greater, something beyond the existence that people had here.

"A prize is something you get when you win." Kaimi thought hard for a moment, trying to come up with something appropriate. She got to her feet shakily and wobbled over to Bishop where she still sat. "Here." Kaimi took one of the little blossoms from the necklace of flowers she wore and held it up to Bishop. "You can have this for your prize." The flower was pink and sweet smelling and, most uniquely of all, would never wilt or fade. "Or when you do something good. Naomi gives me jellybeans when I do something good." She grinned broadly. "The ones that taste like pineapple are my favorite."

Naomi smiled, nodding her head in agreement. Life certainly did feel that way at times. Despite the fact that she exerted great control over her own life, that control had been abrubtly shaken with Kaimi's arrival. Not that she minded, of course. She just had to adjust. This was what she'd wanted. A kid. A family of her own. She was happily overwhelmed. "How long have you had Bishop, then?" Naomi asked politely, enjoying the opportunity to talk to a grownup while the children occupied themselves.

Bishop held the pink flower head in her hands as if it were precious treasure. No one had ever given her anything like this before and she was going to keep it forever. Taking a deep breathe Bishop inhaled the strong but not overwhelmingly sweet scent the blossom gave off. It was much much nicer than the stuff her mother worse or even the shampoo she used during the bath. " Thank you, I'm glad I won."

The young girl wasn't sure what to make of the rest of Kaimi's statement, she'd never had a jellybean before and the concept of good and bad behavior was still beyond her as of yet. She did however like the ideas of getting more things for one reason or another.

Carefully she slid herself off the toy ride and stood once again on the ground. " What now?"

" Five days" Carol replied, " Not long but long enough to get attached you know. It was weird though having her just wander in off the streets."

Kaimi looked around the playground thoughtfully. There were so many interesting-looking things that could be done, she just didn't know where to start. Chewing a little on her lower lip, she turned slowly in a circle. "Ummm...." She began, and then her eyes fell on the field and widened. "Oh no! Look! They're coming!" It wasn't clear who "they" were, but "they" were obviously some sort of enemy or monster. "Hurry! Run!" Kaimi pointed to the jungle-gym. "If we can get to the castle we can keep them out!" She was clearly caught up in the throes of her overactive imagination.

On the bench on the other side of the park, Naomi nodded sympathetically. "It must have been shocking... do you know what she was doing on the streets?" Stranger things had happened in this place called Gaia than little girls running around alone. But still, she found herself wondering what had caused Bishop to be on her own.

Bishop turned her head in the direction Kaimi had pointed and like when they had been racing her mind supplied the thing her eyes could not really see or ears really hear. With the howl of an angry mob behind her Bishop fled towards the multicoloured castle. The pink blossom clothes carefully and yet tightly in her hand seemed different now in the midst of make believe it made her feel safe.

Bishop's amber eyes flicker over to watch Kaimi as they ran and she too was transformed. No longer was her new friend another child running haphazardly away from an unknown force but a strange and powerful magic user, the necklace of flowers around her neck the source of her powers.

Carol simply shook her head " I presume she was born of Gaia itself"

Ah... the power of a child's imagination. As Kaimi pelted towards the castle her own mind transformed Bishop into a mysterious shapeshifter with yet-unknown powers. She gained the castle and started climbing, reaching down to help Bishop up, should the other girl need it. "Raise the drawbridge!" Kaimi shouted excitedly, pretending to crank a great wheel that would raise the huge wooden drawbridge so that the bad guys would be effectively cut off by the moat, buying the girls some time. Luckily, Kaimi's imagination included several vicious moat monsters in the mix that would surely help their plight.

Naomi watched the two girls from a distance, an amused smile pulling at the corner of her lips. "Well, anyone born of Gaia is bound to be a mystery" she murmurred softly.

Having reached the castles was Bishop flung herself onto it and climbed to safety. Having no clue what a drawbridge was she simply stared At Kaimi for a second before remembering what else needed to happen. " You need to make the help fires." The fires would let other castle know about the trouble and they would send help. Unable to do magic Bishop was of no use trying to start a fire and thus she placed her hands beside Kaimi's and copied her motions hoping not to let her friend down in raising the drawbridge.

Carol nodded " I've met the odd person who's circumstance qualify them as having been born of Gaia . They aren't particularly odd per say but they certianly have quirks abut them and they seem to share a similar mindset." That was as close as carol could come to discussing the group to an outsider. It provided minute information without really giving anything important away.

"Help fires are a good idea!" Kaimi agreed, then paused. "Whats a help fire?" The drawbridge, with Bishop's help, was raised now and she peered over the battlements at the approaching hoarde, excitement shining in her eyes. Naomi didn't play pretend as good as Bishop did.

Naomi nodded. "I dont come from here..." She said carefully. "It's all taken a bit of getting used to. But native Gaians do tend to be different than the folk I'm used to. Then again," She chuckled a little, "thats part of the reason I came here in the first place." Which was as close as she'd get to revealing her real reasons for her move.

Bishop pointed to a round bronze disk filled with a pitch black placed on a stand nearby " Set the black stuff on fire so other castles can see and come help." They might be strong and inside the castle but they were fairly alone and you had to have friends to beat up the bad guys. It was in the rules.

A tentative truce seemed to have come between the woman and carol just smiled and directed her attention back towards the girl's." I wonder what they're thinking"
PostPosted: Wed May 07, 2008 10:11 pm

Kaimi stared at the bronze dish, as of yet unaware that Bishop had gifted her with magical powers. But eventually her mind reached the same conclusion as the owl-girl's, and she moved her hands in some nonsensical flashy motions. With a few added sound-effects, the black substance burst into flame and she beamed. "Now we have to keep them away until help comes! We should throw things at them!" Kaimi looked around, searching for something... anything... to throw at the bad guys.

Naomi shook her head and sighed. "I have no idea... but at least they seem to be enjoying herself." She returned her gaze to the girls as well, feeling slightly baffled by their odd behavior.

Bishop watched eyes wide with fascination as Kaimi worked her magic. Her smalls hands glowing a pale pink as the magic user drew the symbols needed to summon fire. Hopefully help would come fast because Bishop didn't like the way the attackers were surrounding the castle. They couldn't protect everywhere at once.

Throwing things was good but what things? Bishop paced the castle wall trying to think. Reaching down she picked up a chunk of rock, a peice of castle wall that had been broken during some past attack. With all her strength she hurled the weapon over the wall and at the enemy.

Carol narrowed her eyes now and pursed her lips ." They are having fun.. but I'm not sure I like the idea of Bishop throwing rocks ." Personally Carol had never understood why jungle gyms were built over rock pits. it seemed like the worst landing you could have if you fell.
PostPosted: Thu May 08, 2008 12:18 pm

Kaimi watched as Bishop's stone hit one of the nameless hoarde, and she clapped and cheered. "Thats good!" She stated thoughtfully. "Bishop, do you think you could fly over the other side and get more rocks to throw?" Being a shapeshifter, Kaimi was positive that there was a way for Bishop to accomplish this. "It will be dangerous, but I could put an invisibility spell on you! Or you could turn into a bird!"

Naomi nodded. "As long as they don't turn violent" She murmurred, watching the two girls with curiosity.

Bishop nodded " I'll be Quick." Flying would be no problems becuase after all she had feather and must thus be a bird can capable of flight. Even if her wings were in an odd spot. Turning into a bird like Kaimi suggested was probably better though. No one would throw things at a normal looking bird.

She reached up quickly to touch her headwings and start the change then leapt into the sky.

From the second rung of the jungle gym to the gravel below was a shot fall but it was big enough for Bishop to lose her balance on the landing and fall scraping her knees. The instant pain registered in her mind the game was done and Bishop began to whimper.

Carol rubbed her temples stood and began walking towards the girls " looks like the fun is over for today." At least her daughter had been enjoying herself f and made a friend before this had happened. and the injury didn't look to bad from where she was.
