"Good...," Shinichi's husky voice trailed off, his narrowing eyes following Hanabira as she made her leave. Under his class, she would never have been able to learn all the required jutsu, or at least not until well into adulthood. A scraping blend of voices broke through his level-headed thoughts. Yuki was screaming at him for abusing the kids while Ichi's stone-hard scolding clubbed any positive emotion he was experiencing at the moment. There was a reason, and a damn good one, why they were still teaching while he waited on the bench for a mission that involved killing or sabotage. A prickly lump expanded in Shinichi's throat, but he merely pursed his lips and shut the door. When he returned his steady gaze to Seiteki, the mother could probably see a layer of dissatisfaction, of a deeper kind than the usual misanthropy, in his frosty forest eyes.

Shinichi listened wordlessly to the woman, nodding when she mentioned having the goods he requested. He only needed enough to bring that lovely scent to his apartment. Shinichi lifted his eyebrows when the Yamanaka caught his lie of wanted sturdy, practical plants, but he trusted that she would keep his secret. Seiteki didn't appear the gossip type like that knuckle-brained Tenko. So when she returned from the storeroom, Shinichi, still at unease, grabbed the flowers unceremoniously, laid a few coins on the counter, and bowed, already retreating from the shop. "It's fine. My tenants prefer them natural," he fibbed again. Natamo and the fish-stinking mongrel wouldn't give a broken kunai handle about flowers, although he probably had some left over to share with a select other. Again, he bowed and disappeared from the shop, hopefully before Seiteki could see his rosy cheek. Safely outside and with the flowers hidden under his new yukata, Shinichi blew up at Noburo for being so damn lazy and wasting his money. She nipped him on the ankle and playfully sped ahead, out of range of any jutsu.

"Sleeping genjutsu?" Hanabira asked back as Kane mentioned it. Naru said that Tomoko had sleeping gas that had probably knocked them out, but if Kane had been effected as well, was it really a genjutsu? "Mm," Hanabira nodded, telling Kane that she had also been hit by the sleeping genjutsu. The little adopted girl knew that the Kage was a master at genjutsu. She hoped to study under him some day and learn the techniques that he had. A genjutsu that put people to sleep... It was something that seemed fitting for Hanabira. "Mhmhm," Hanabira giggled quietly as Kane mentioned that he needed a bath. She began walking next to Kane to head home.

Hanabira was first to the door. She opened it fully for Kane to grab hold of it behind her as she walked in. "We're home," Hanabira announced as she walked up to the counter to put down her basket where only a few stems of clovers remained. "I sold a few," Hanabira said, reaching into her jacket pocket and handing the three golden Ryo to Seiteki. "I'll be in the kitchen," Hanabira said, bowing to Seiteki and then Kane as she slipped off her shoes, put on her slippers and then went into the kitchen where she would begin making Kane some onigiri to take along on his mission.

Hanabira went into the kitchen where the pot that kept rice warm throughout the day was sitting. Rice that sat in heat for a while was always the best for Riceballs. The steam would make the rice sticky and easier to mold. Walking over to the kitchen sink, Hanabira first washed her hands and then got out some small lunch boxes to put the rice in. Opening up the lid to the rice pot, Hanabira reached in and grabbed an amount of rice that fit in the palm of her hand like a ball. Hanabira's riceballs were always small since her hands were tiny compared to most people's. She was still a little girl, but her small hands just made the onigiri that much cuter and enjoyable to eat. She didn't start molding it yet since she had to put the filling in first. Hanabira had thought about dried plum for the center of the riceball, but wouldn't some fish be better for a shinobi? Maybe Hanabira would make some with fish and some with fruit! A small smile crept over her face as she opened the cupboard with her free hand to take out the container of dried plum. With the plum, she put it in the center of the small mound of rice in the palm of her hand. She made sure it was tucked in just right, so that when she put the top layer of rice in, the plum would be directly in the center of the onigiri.

[Yay! XD
Now the Yamanaka funds are 9ryo! Counting Kane's payment for Tonato..]

"I wonder who would be messed enough to cast a genjutsu over the entire village.." Kane mulled over it thoughtfully, but stopped upon reaching the doorstep. He accepted the door from Hana as he was bathed by the familiar sight of home, and closed the door gently. Hana had announced their arrival so he figured that he didn't need to.

"Kaachan, I'm gonna take a bath," he said to her with a boyish grin. "I'll be in my room if you need me. Gotta pack..." He couldn't withhold a grin upon hearing that Hana would be in the kitchen. Maybe it was something for him?! Kane was now sufficiently cheered up and he walked up the stairs to his room. His retreating figure was a lot more relaxed than earlier.

--

"Welcome home, both of you," Seiteki said with a smile. "Oh, thank you Hana-chan! You've done really well!" she praised the girl. She took the 3 ryo and put it into a special box that she kept for all their profits. This was the money box that everyone in the family could take from to buy groceries, books, clothes or anything else as long as it was necessary. And of course it would be nice to ask Seiteki first but she mostly didn't mind.

She bustled about the shop, clearing and tidying things here and there, and watering plants that she'd missed earlier on in the day. It would almost be time for bed for her but first she would check on Hana. She made her way to the kitchen and glanced curiously at what Hana was doing.

"Need any help, Hana-chan?"

Hanabira had a little trouble getting the dried plum to sit just right, but after a few tries, she finally got it to set in the bed of rice nicely. Reaching into the warm pot of rice, Hanabira was careful not to bump her wrist on the side as she reached in since the sides of the pot were pretty warm from sitting over heat all day. Grabbing some more rice, Hanabira patted it over the bed that was already lying in her hand. It was like a blanket for the plum. The bottom was the futon, the plum was the person lying to bed and the top layer of rice was the warm blanket that Hanabira put over the plum. It was a nice thought to think of onigiri in such a way. Now, Hanabira had to roll the tucked away plum into a nice triangular ball. Rolling the rice in her hand, Hanabira didn't roll it like dough for a bun, but flipped it and applied pressure at certain points to make sure it turned out in just the right shape.

Sometimes it was hard to keep the rice together while rolling it up into a neat onigiri shape, but Hanabira had managed it this time thanks to the rice being extra sticky. Once she was done shaping the rice, Hanabira went into the cupboard again to get some sesame seeds and a bowl. Sprinkling the seeds into the bowl, Hanabira gently rolled the onigiri in the seeds, so that it would have a nice outside layered speckled with golden seeds. Then to finish the plum riceball off, Hanabira wrapped it with a piece of Nori, so Kane-nii could hold it and not get rice or seeds on his fingers. With a very content smile, Hanabira tucked the onigiri into the lunch box and began on her second one. She would make two plums and then two fish. Hanabira thought there was still some salmon that she could shred for the last two balls in the cooler.

{OMG! I did not see your post, Kouri! Sorry! And here I was waiting for you to post!}

"Mm," Hanabira shook her head 'no' to Seiteki as she offered her help. The little freckled face girl really wanted to make the riceballs for Kane-nii by herself. "Does Seiteki-san want some?" Hanabira said softly to the woman, offering to make her some onigiri while she was working on Kane's. Hanabira hadn't spent much time with the woman since she had always been with Hide. She was still a little timid around Seiteki, but Hanabira knew that she cared, especially since Hana woke with Seiteki watching over her in the hospital beside Kane. Putting a second bed of rice over the second plum onigiri, Hanabira began to shape it with her hands and then wrap the dark green nori at the bottom of one of the sides of the triangular round ball. As she finished the second plum and put it in the lunch box, she began went into the cooler and pulled out the small amount of fish. It was still good and Hanabira knew it would last quite a while in the rice for Kane's trip.

[<_< sorry for taking so criminally long >_>;]

"That would be wonderful, Hana,"
Seiteki answered honestly. "But only if you want to. It's getting late after all." She watched Hanabira bustle about the kitchen, mature beyond her years and suddenly felt motherly pangs in her heart.

"Those onigiri are looking to be very good," she complimented the girl, and she wasn't lying. The form was decent and the rice seemed moist enough. And Seiteki knew that Hanabira could only get better at making them.

{Wasn't even around to know you took so long!!}

"Mm, I like to cook," Hanabira answered Seiteki with an 'only if you want to.' The quiet freckled face daughter of the Yamanakas loved to cook. She had been cooking since she had came to Shimagakure and she almost preferred it over training at the academy to become a shinobi. Hanabira had always thought that if Kane took over the flower business that Hanabira would open up her own little bakery that made small cakes and pastries. She had never told anyone about this, but it had been entering and leaving her thoughts from time to time. The thought of leaving the flower shop was harder to think of now that Hide was gone. Hanabira would never want to leave a place that held so many dear memories. Hearing a compliment come from Seiteki, Hanabira blushed slightly and nodded her head. "Thank you," she said shyly as she tucked more onigiri into the box and packed it up properly before making extra for herself, Seiteki and even Kane to have before he left. "All done," Hanabira said as she set the serving plate on top of the lunch box and then walked her way into the living room where she set out the plate, alone with 3 smaller plates. This would be a good going away night for Kane-nii.

[CRAAP I AM SO SO SO SO SO LATE ah I was waiting for the day to change I KNEW I HAD FORGOTTEN SOMETHING. Namely that deployment was at night. -.- I feel like a douche... Sorry for slight godmodding Shuga. (namely, that Hana is in bed)]

After his bath Kane had packed his bag before lying on his bed, listening to himself breathe. Yes. It was a good relaxing technique!! He actually had time to prepare for the mission unlike last time, so it was a huge difference to both his nerves and his backpack. His backpack contained all his weapons as well as a few clothes and stuff, for changes in weather or just because he would want to get out of dirty things. Anyway, as he was lying on his bed he had slowly fallen asleep...

Suddenly he jolted awake and noted the sky. Uh. Then he looked at the 24-hour hourglass that he had in his room. The sand had stopped flowing which meant that a) it would be a b***h to recalibrate it to normal time and b) CRAP HE OVER SLEPT. How one could oversleep a NIGHT deployment was anybody's guess but hopefully they hadn't left yet!!! Kane felt like a fool! He could imagine how good his name was in his teammate's books right now. Well. If that Naru thought him pathetic enough not to look at and ogle him that would be fine in Kane's book, actually...

With lightning speed he grabbed his backpack and thundered downstairs. A lunchbox was waiting for him and he grabbed it and stuffed it in his backpack!! It was early in the morning (well, early enough to be considered night, actually..) and he didn't want to wake his family. Looking around for a piece of paper and a pen (he always seemed to be using this method now..) Kane hurriedly scrawled 'SORRY FOR LEAVING IMPROMPTU. AM VERY LATE!' plus a heart on the side because he didn't have time to write 'love you'.

Then he ran out of the flower shop to the docks!! The shoreline!! Hopefully they hadn't left without him!!!

{Enter Winter 1}

Hanabira had risen from her bed, feeling a little groggy. She had been up pretty late last night while watching the boats sail away from the shoreline with Kane on them. The little freckle faced girl had also been praying for him all night, sending him all the strength she could from Shimagakure. Doing her daily routine with the exception of skipping breakfast, Hanabira headed out the door. "I'm off, Seiteki-san," she said just before walking out the door and heading towards the academy. As she walked, she thought about how close she was to graduation. Upon graduation, she would have to join a squad and ask a Jounin to become her sensei... Hanabira couldn't think of anyone who would take her under or be her squad mates... Serena might... but Hanabira really couldn't think of anyone else. With a small sigh, she continued towards the academy for another day of training. She hoped as high as she could that she wouldn't run into that man that had nearly twisted off her head the other day... That confrontation had left her torn to pieces.

Kore would not waste anytime enjoying the scene of the flower shop. He could smell it and that was enough. He was beginning to get hungry and even he wanted to explore the full extent of the village. Even more he wanted to finish digging that hole. Pulling harder finding some motivation in himself his eyes wondered around the location and noticed the people of the village were gathering around. Which meant this must have been the center of the village. Pulling the kart through the village he was aware of the peoples reactions. some were surprised to see a lion cub at all others were use to it, probably other shinobi or people familiar with the Tategami. They were not his goal though Kore just kept pulling the kart the best he could through the village.

Lying in her bedroom all alone with a warm towel draped over her head, Hanabira's olive eyes turned towards the window. She had been at the academy with all the other children when she had suddenly come down with a fever that made her faint on the spot. It had been a few days now that she had been forbidden to leave her bed. There was a bottle of medicine on her night stand that Tenko had given her from the hospital. The news of the shinobi returning from the Orochi war had reached Hanabira's small room above the Yamanaka flower shop. She had wanted desperately to go to the hospital to see Kane, but she wasn't strong enough to leave her bed yet. Seiteki had told Hanabira that she had brought Kane some onigiri. The freckled face girl had felt sad that she couldn't have made the riceballs herself. Closing her olive eyes, Hanabira drifted back into sleep as the cold winds continued to blow outside.

Kane really had an explanation for this.
Lying still in his bed while the rest of the village was gradually coming back to life ever since the shock announcement a couple of days ago.

The village had reacted as predicted; some people left stunned, others crying, yet others angry. Kane himself had been feeling a strange sort of emptiness ever since leaving the hospital and had wandered home. As soon as he had stepped into his house he'd promptly fainted. Well Kane didn't exactly boast the best constitution or anything...

He had drifted in and out of consciousness for quite a while now, having bad dreams of the Orochi mission. He was quite sure that he was talking nonsense in the middle of his dreams, but couldn't for his life remember what. He hoped that his mother wasn't' too worried.

Ah... even now his head stung a little. Kane encircled his fingers around his temple and pressed lightly at certain spots, massaging them. He needed water... he would go downstairs...

Sitting down at the table where the warm air kept Hanabira warm, the little freckled face girl was reading the book on telomere that Tenmoki-sensei had given her to read. It was just the other week that the young adopted Yamanaka decided to become a medical shinobi. She would learn all about the body, its cells and structure in order to learn the medical techniques that the Tenmoki's were so famous for. The events of the last week had dampened Hanabira's spirits on top of her cold which she had caught from Shin. Going and visiting the boy had been a good deed she had done on her own, but her immune system was very strong and she instantly caught what he had. Picking up a single tissue from the stack she had beside her, Hanabira blew her nose quietly, letting out a small squeak as she did so. Her nose was red and tender, the skin beginning to crack just on the tip of her nostrils. Folding the tissue several times to make sure she kept her germs to herself, Hanabira set it in a small pile of other folded tissues on the other side of her book. She kept the clean and the dirty seperate from one another and nicely organized.
