Black armor sounds good. I think it may be something like a combination between the pumpkin plate from the last Halloween event and maybe... I don't know, I thought I had it there for a sec, he-he.

I'm thinking maybe we could start a sort of armor design contest. Not something to do with Gaia, I mean an art contest of some sort. Would anybody be interested?

Ok then. Let me know when you'll be ready and I'll start the darn thing, he-he.

So, doesn't anyone have something to add to the subject? A cool armor they want to mention? Anything!? question

someone started the "knight vrs. samurai" subject again in the chatter box. so i luaghed at the guy who said that armor wieghed about 100-120 pounds, and that the samurai's sword skills would atomatically make him the winner. not only is this totally a baised opinon, there's several elemental flaws in his statement. first flaw is that knights wieghed between 200 to 350 pounds"including man" this is a very cliche view, not only did a knight have to be light he had to be able to leap into battle. let me qoute (Shakespeare, Henry IV, part 1, IV. 1)
i saw young Harry-with his beaver on,
his cuisses on his thighs, galantly arm'd,
rise from the ground like a feathered mercury,
and vualted with such ease into his seat,
as if an angel dropp'd down from the clouds,
to turn and wind a fiery pegasus,
and witch the world with noble horsemanship.
secondly pure swordsmanship will not win a battle. a combination of armor and skills can win a battle. as they say the best offense is a good defense.

Pffft. I've worn full plate armor before. It isn't anywhere close to that heavy. And besides that, if it's adjusted to fit right, a knight would be just as mobile as they would be without it.

As for the samurai's skill with a sword, it isn't any more or less than a knight's. Most of the principles are even exactly the same, at their core.

Who would win that fight would most certainly depend, purely, on which of them was the better fighter and it could be either one. There's no automatic winning going on anywhere.

Good points Darkrai! I haven't read anything from Shakespeare so I'll just take yer word for it, he-he.

I also believe Berz's statement is correct. After all, a fight is usually won by the most experienced fighter. In games however, this isn't always true but, that's games for ya, he-he. mrgreen

and the fact most samurai didn't have metal armor, the swords are completly diffrent anyways. knights for bashing your opponent not to say they didn't cut as well, and katana's were for slashing and cutting. would make for an interesting fight but i don't think either would go down without much of a fight.

Right you are sir, right you are...

Question: Which armor is the strongest you've ever seen?

hmm i'd have to say more late style armor, due to the invention of gun powder many armories made armor thicker to somewhat stop a bullet. this left out all the pieces such as the cuisse, guantlet and so forth.

Depends on what weapon you're up against. If I'm facing a bullet, give me a kevlar vest, but that's useless against blades of any kind. If I'm up against a b*****d sword, steel plate, but those are well documented for their inability to stop arrows. Same deal with chain (I've actually shot arrows at chain... it's decidedly satisfying!). If I'm up against a rapier, give me leather and let me move to use my own parrying abilities and agility, since a rapier-wielder's point control could get inside just about anything else. Same with most stabbing-primary weapons.

i see it as the turn of weaponolgy, your enemy has guns so you get better guns to beat his. but wait should you wear armor for occasionl street brawls and becuase it might stop a bullet, or go without and rely on your ability to make a one shot kill or if that doesn't work put him down with a sword. the spanish wore breast plates and helms up to conquering the aztecs, and also rapiers. my bets on wearing armor, given that a bullet is only good up to a couple hundred yards.

Speaking of chain mail, it is interesting how it is made. The armor maker makes teh individual links by making a small coil of metal, and pounding a strip off to attach it to another link, to make a strand of links, and eventually it turns out to be a chain mail shirt, or what ever purpose it was designed to serve.

A NOTICE TO EVERYONE! armors Is not a word! Armor is a word like fish. No one says "Look at all the fishes", do they?) Look it up if you don't believe me. (If I'm wrong, let me know) mrgreen

Well, I do, but only when I'm trying to be cute... 4laugh

That's one way of making chain mail. There were several different ways of putting the links together throughout history. Different civilizations found many different patterns of "weaving" (for lack of a better term) the links together, some being stronger and more impenetrable than others, but they usually took more links, more metal, and more time to make. Also, there were some that used tiny pegs of metal to close the individual links.

Ha-ha! Yes. I've seen some girls say: "Look at the fishies" and I think, like Berz says, they're just trying to be cute, he-he.

I should have known that an armor should be picked depending on which weapon yer against. Since most games don't tell you this, I had no idea... sweatdrop

@fire well you certainly don't say "look at the pant" its only the plural form.

@hypno if you've seen some of the lord of the rings commentary the director made his smith's do welding by hand, and everything had to be done as if it were medieval. very hard to do since they'ed break a sword everytime they shot a diffrent scene.
