Ah. Well, this is yet another definition of "magical realism" that contradicts every other definition of "magical realism" I've ever heard.

I read another set of definitions here. How much do they coincide with your viewpoint/definition?

The most matching criteria is there.

Many of the rest I would place more under the slipstream genre, really. That page seems to be a criteria for getting published in Margin, not for the genre itself? I feel like it is making a judgment as to what constitutes "good" magical realism, as opposed to the unsubtle and frankly tactless work that makes of the majority of the genre's body?

But, you know, sometimes you gotta let a dragon loose in Toronto.
