Of course it would be Tenmoki to help her - the medical shinobi was far above most anything that most anyone would expect of her. With a grateful smile, she managed to make it towards the gates so that she would be able to wail on the enemy. She might have been able to take most of them on in hand to hand battle, but as far as outrunning them - Natamo didn't run from fights, and she had never seen the need to. She charged headfirst into them, and now her bullheaded nature was starting to show evidence of maybe not being the wisest thing in the world to do. With Yuki's help she'd gotten past the marked distance, now safe from the catapults and ready to head into the next fight. Yuki had saved her from being pelted to death, so now it was time to really show her stuff and take down whoever she was going to be fighting against.

Dhan had quite literally stepped into a war zone, he had been hanging back from the front lines when the fire began to fall. Studying what he had been given to work with. The children they were sending to war, it could barely be called that a small task force made mostly of women and children. This was a battle doomed to fail. On sheer numbers, but Dhan knew the power of a single shinobi could amount to that of an entire sqaud of soldiers. He had learnt that lesson the hard way, during one of his wars as a much younger leader. He had over come the shinobi hired to protect his target by simply throwing his soldiers at it till they were overrun and killed. A brutish tactic but it worked. It was quite possible this snake village housed enough soldiers for such a tactic to work, and then they probably had Shinobi aswell. That was a luxury Dhan did not have back with his Meho clan. It was true they had powerful warriors and Dhan was proof of that. But he was just that, a warrior, a soldier. He had none of the special training these shinobi went through. The meho's are primitve and so are their ways of war. They still think Jutsu's are blessings from the demon king Meho.

Now was not the time for such thoughts in his head. He had one objective, to breach those gates... and once inside. These Shinobi would be left to their own devices. The glory of war, of causing death and pain to the enemy was overridden by this objective. It was the only reason he had taken the offer of staying and going to war with the Shinobi. The only reason why he didn't fall on that Shinobi's kunai on the beach...

A miscalculation, a stroke of luck, a freak incident. Beyond the range of the catapults Dhan was safe and preparing to make his run of the gauntlet to the gate when a rouge shot from a catapult shot well beyond it's regular range and exploded beyond him. Knocked to the ground, with flaming debris falling upon him, he was shell shocked. Moving on instinct he crawled to his feet and began to walk forward. No clue of his surroundings, just of the last thing on his mind. Get to the gate.

Any soldier in his right mind would be freaked out by this hell hole commonly known as a swamp. The only thoughts racing through the Crimson Death's mind was how easy it would be for an enemy party to ambush them, since the thick, entwining trees could hide a pack of elephants, let alone trained fighters. Shinichi calmly brushed aside a sagging brown plant, its brambles dripping with a grey liquid he assumed was water. This place could drive anybody mad, which explained why the Orochi tribe went to insane extremes to gain power. They lost their humanity and became like cave dwellers, shirking from the life-giving sun. Shinichi took one last lone glance at the trees that practically screamed murder, then listened closely to Yuki's orders. The catapults weren't deadly like the massive monsters in the Fire Country, but they would significantly impair his team's ability to fight the next wave of attackers. A broken arm now spelled death when the Orochi soldiers came out.

Yuki's warning alerted Shinichi that the fighting had officially began. Within seconds, the two teams spilled out onto the field, each person trying his or her best to avoid the explosive stones coming their way. Shinichi's peripheral vision scanned over his team members, judging their ability to make it to the gate. The genin were doing fine, though taking a few hits, and the tough coot Natamo had Yuki's help. That only left Dhan to worry about. While Shinichi's attention was focused on the safety of his subordinates, the Orochi lobbed a huge sphere his way. Shinichi dove towards the ground, feeling Noburo take off from her perch on his shoulder. Unfortunately, the projectile struck somewhere in the middle of the two, leaving a nasty bruise and burn on his shoulder. Shinichi cursed under his breath and rotated his arm. Good, no broken bones. He pushed himself to his feet and grabbed Noburo, cradling her against his chest like a baby. The ANBU made a few blurred seals and bounded off in a puff of smoke towards the gate, getting within ten metres of Yuki's senbon before his chakra control gave out.

In contrast to her partner, Noburo was exhilarated by the dark, foreboding swamp. There land seemed to contain endless mysteries and countless dangers. Although the trees were too thick to allow her to fly to her heart's content, Noburo figured that it would be fun to fleet about in the spaces between branches and feast on all sorts of exotic reptiles. That was, until she saw the fortress of trees that formed an impenetrable wall. There was no way a falcon of her size could squeeze through those cracks! And the darkness worked to her disadvantage. Noburo had excellent vision, but she wasn't meant to hunt nocturnally, as these lurking creatures were sure to be experts at. She gripped Shinichi's shoulder tightly as they advanced.

As soon as the lanky man beneath her dropped to the floor, Noburo took to the air. She flapped her wings desperately, heading in the opposite direction of the incoming cannonball. But, her wings weren't too good at quick turns and Noburo had never had the chance to learn the proper methods for using her wings. A loud squawk could be heard as the ball slammed into one of her legs, followed by an explosion. Noburo spiraled out of control, her twists stopped only when Shinichi roughly hugged her against his chest. Only yesterday she would have torn his scarred skin out with her beak. But, Noburo decided to put her trust in her partner. It wasn't like she had a choice anyway.

"Stay low until Yuki's team takes out the guard," Shinichi yelled, "Then go right for that gate. Dhan and I will ward off any Orochi that comes near." That was, if the Meho could make it that far without getting his head blown up. As much as Shinichi would love to see that happen, he knew Dhan was a powerful shinobi and therefore of some use. He and Noburo finished their dash past the point of no firing and hid behind an gigantic tree root, the falcon stretching out her injured leg. The din of exploding balls constantly crashing and the occasional scream woke the old battle spirit in Shinichi. His mission was to destroy the village that threatened his home and he would accomplish that at any cost. The ANBU threw himself from beneath the root and made a few seals. He launched an enormous, hurricane-like blast of wind from his gloved palms at the catapults, stopping any incoming projectiles for a brief moment. The sound of frantic snake men and clunking cannon balls rang through the swamp. "GO! Use your damn ninjutsu, dirtbag!" Shinichi roared at the cannibal, making a few seals for another Daitoppa if needed.

Kane was really freaked out by this guy who seemed to always be looking at him. Sure, he was a piece of hot a**... of course, that was the wrong thing to be thinking on a mission. He could probably indulge in any fantasies once he returned to Shima. Now was work time. And soon Kane got an idea of what this mission was to entail... when he saw the catapults. Kane couldn't possibly fathom how he was supposed to dodge those flaming stones. Yuki-san and Natamo-san seemed to have no problem as they helped each other through. And Kane saw that Naru was totally unimpressed as he was also through like lightning, but not before giving Kane one last touch. Kane shuddered a little by reflex when their skin met, but Naru was gone fast enough to have avoided any repercussions.

'Aw, man,' Kane thought glumly as everybody else started to go through. Well, he couldn't chicken out in the first stage... his left hand flew subconsciously to the place where Naru had touched, before he got ready to go through either. It probably wouldn't be much of a problem if he got hit anyhow. What he had learnt in the mainland... Stop, Drop and Roll right? I mean, once he got out of range. Kane got ready to run as fast as he could.

Kane's low expectations hit right on the mark as not before he had taken his second step into the war zone did a projectile slam into his arm. It burned and Kane was sure that it was smouldering or at least glowing red. But he had to carry on... he didn't want to be the weakest link in his team. Even if he already was. Oh what a bummer. Well, he was going to return home alive to Hana-chan and his mother and he wouldn't let a couple of flying rocks do him in! He spotted Yuki and Natamo safely on the other side, as well as Naru. What he would give to exchange places with them right now... was actually a lot. That would be bringing them into danger. Kane was somehow getting distracted in the middle of the battlefield...

..and sure enough, another couple of projectiles found their way onto his clothes. Good thing none of them actually hit his bare skin. Maybe Kane wore too much, but he was glad of that now. And by some miracle the rocks hadn't hit his face, either. Maybe it was because he was shielding them... (doh)

Anyway, the pelting rocks jolted Kane from his thought process and made him realise just where he was. He began to run even more fiercely towards the goal. His arm wound still stung and he could feel the bruise on his back forming. He was aware that his flak jacket was singing merrily with flame.

Kane continued to sprint across the never-ending field as fiery hail (what an oxymoron) continued to fall from above. One hit his head, which definitely hurt a hell of a lot and not to mention probably blackened his hair. One hand snaked over to rub the back of his head where a bump was forming, which definitely threw his balance off a lot. Kane continued to run although his form was a little weird now. He was also now a lot more desperate.

His abnormal form had caused his body to turn strangely and because of this Kane ran into the path of a falling rock that he would otherwise have dodged. This was really, really, really, annoying. Sparing a glance up, he managed to see the rest of his team. They looked as far as ever... sort of like those mirages in the Wind Country. Not that he had been there, or would ever get a chance to if he didn't get his act together... Yamanaka Kane, killed by falling rocks. That was just a joke... he wouldn't die here, even if it felt like he had a high chance of being pelted to death. His team was just that short amount of distance away!!

[Kane's Hp: 25 - 9 = 16 >_>
Completed: 3/3]

Somehow, that burst of motivation was all he needed. Kane ran as fast as his legs could carry him (which was sadly not that fast..) and although he still wasn't agile enough to avoid getting pelted, he managed to clear the distance required before any more got to him. Within 5 seconds he was out of the range of the bullets, pulling up next to Yuki, Natamo and Naru and struggling to catch his breath. Sadly, he would probably have to ask the chuunin for a couple of tips, since he seemed as immaculate as ever..
