Cece nodded at the bigger boy, and surprisingly, held out her hand to him; a smile brightening her small features.
Elda suppressed a laugh, Cecelia was like that. Once she decided she was going to like you that was it, nothing else mattered.

He laughed and took her hand, leading her gently to the jungle gym steps. "You climb up these, then go up those on the right," he told her. "And that's where the slide is. Have you been on a slide before?" he asked. She was awfully young, after all. And tiny compared to him.

Cecelia looked up the tall slope that rose above her short frame, and shook her head. Usually when they came to the park her mother kept her confined to the sandbox and swings. Elda had been hesitant to allow the young girl to try the bigger pieces of play equipment.
Resolutely, Cece grabbed hold of the bars on the sides of the steps and began to awkwardly pull herself up them.

He followed her, easily making sure she didn't fall or anything, as was his nature. "It's really fun," he told her, hanging upside down from one of the poles above her. "You just sit down on the slide and push!"
He flipped, landing on the stand behind her. "But take your time."

Cecelia worked her way up carefully to reach the top of the slide. Sitting down at the top, she looked at the long silver expanse that sloped downwards before her. Near the end of the slide she could see Elda standing watch, making sure she was safe.
With Elda in front and Christian behind her she felt safe enough to go. With a loud squeal, she pushed off just like she’d been told too, and in a moment she was flaying down the silver pathway.
It was a rush, and she loved it. But it ended too soon, and the landed with an ungraceful thump in the soft sand at the end of the slide, her face wide with her grin.

"Good job!" Chris cheered from behind her, hanging upside down once again. "Now come back up and do it again!"
He was perfectly fine hanging around, after all. He grinned, remembering when he had been a baby. Playgrounds were the best, after all.

Again, and again, and again; Cece went carefully up the back of the slide and flew down the front.
Too soon, it seemed, it was time to leave. Elda held Cece’s hand gently in her own as they thanked Chris. Without warning, Cecelia bolted from Elda’s grasp and toddled over to the other child. Throwing her arms around the boy’s thick neck she hugged him fiercely.
“Thanku.” She said in her happy baby voice, before letting go and going to rejoin her mother.

"Bye, Cece!" he called, grinning and waving as she and her mother left. "Thanks for playing with me!"
"You're so good with little kids," Missy said from behind him, making him turn. "You did very well."
He shrugged and walked over to her. "I'm hungry," he said, rather than reply to that. "Let's go home."
"Okay," she said, patting his head. "Let's go home."
