Ashpelt had heard the conversation, if you could call it that, between Mudclaw and Darkstorm. "Everyone seems on edge" she said to herself as she headed back toward camp. It seemed like something was going on, as Mudclaw and Crowfeather stood near Sunflare and Berrykit. Ashpelt quietly thought of Peachkit when she saw Berrykit. Did she miss Peachkit too?

Crowfeather nodded, forgetting his mentors angry words at first. "Our leaders flee like mice at a simple dream. Sometimes dreams are just dreams. Not only did we abandon the patrol sent out for the badgers in our time to leave, the new warrior we sent after them never returned. We werent here to find them and support them. We let ShadowClan run free on our hunting ground because our leaders make us look weak," He meowed, a hint of disgust in his voice. He looked down at the kit and shook his head.

Berrykit pouted at Mudclaws refusal, and even more so at Sunflare's scolding. She had heard that the former queen was not right in the head, and so was she really going to take this lecture seriously?
"Um... A rabbit was in the camp! While the other warriors were away and stuff!" She stuck her tongue out triumphently at the golden she-cat. Maybe if she stalled some more, she wouldn't have to go back into the nursery. Besides, the talk that was being tossed around was interesting.
Was the other cats really that scared about other clans being in their territory? Berrykit knew that Windclan was the strongest, they shouldn't be afraid of losing land! They would claw the fur off any intruder! Right?!

Sunflare knew Berrykit was lying, especially when she stuck her tongue at her. "All the warriors were gone? That's a bit dangerous. Maybe we should ask a deputy why they were all gone." She purred teasingly going along with it. "Or maybe you could just go back to the nursery, where it's safer, and stay there." She gave Berrykit another nudge in the same direction. "Your choice." She sat back with a small smile on her face.

"I mean, not all the warriors were gone! Of course! But the ones remaining were sleeping or something, so they didn't notice the rabbit!"
Berrykit had a slight notion that Sunflare was catching onto her lie, but maybe she was still too crazy to notice it. After all, it didn't seem like she knew the deputies were gone at the moment, so she couldn't ask them. Unless Mudclaw counted, the way he was bossing everyone around earlier.
"Nu-uh! I don't wanna go back to the nursery! It's not as safe as you'd think it be! Remember Peachkit? She died in a nursery!"
The grey kit hoped to strike a nerve in Sunflare, and forcing her to leave her alone. True, her daughter didn't die in the nursery Berrykit was suppose to stay in, but it was a nursery. And she herself wasn't too confident in its protection after the mysterious death.

Sunflare froze as memories of Peachkit, her beloved daughter, washed over her, but she quickly pushed them and her feelings away temporarily for another time. "...She died in a different nursery." She said softly, the teasing tone in her meow gone. "The nursery here is safe." After a solemn moment, she seemed to turn back to her usual cheery self again, though she was still shattered on the inside. "What was the rabbit doing in the camp?" She teased. "Why would it enter a camp full of cats that could kill and eat it?"

One of the last warriors he would expect to take charge of Berrykit was Sunflare. Once a mother, always a mother? Mudclaw thought the queen would avoid the other Clan kits at all costs. Maybe not.
"Sometimes dreams are just dreams. It doesn't mean we can't be cautious, but we also shouldn't have taken such extreme action. If I were on that patrol, I'd be furious right now." Mudclaw grumbled. "Not only were they abandoned, they were the only ones left to deal with the intruders that were sure to come."
He shook his head, trying to get back on track. If the patrol wanted revenge that was all for the better, but he wanted to plant the seeds of doubt without getting muddled up in details. What mattered is that WindClan looked like a clan of cowards, whose silly fears ended up in a kit getting killed. All thanks to their leaders. THAT was what mattered.
Mudclaw hadn't been paying attention to the banter between Berrykit and Sunflare until the kit boldly jabbed at Sunflare's weakest spot.
"If the kit's so determined to stay, Sunflare, let her." he interrupted, amazed at Berrykit's bravery. Most cats thought Sunflare was completely crazy, and the kit had to believe it, but she'd gone and used Peachkit as an excuse to stay out of the nursery. "She'll probably get bored soon and leave."

Sunflare blinked at Mudclaw's interruption and shrugged. "Fine. You deal with her." With that, she strolled back to her meal and finished that before slipping away from the camp. Berrykit made her remember Peachkit, when she was trying to get back to normal. Now she needed privacy to cry a bit alone. If only Peachkit was still alive...
Darkstorm glanced at Sunflare briefly as the other cat pushed by her, a rabbit in her mouth. Putting that in the fresh-kill pile, she scampered away quickly and got another rabbit, a scrawny and smaller one. Dropping that, she stretched and yawned with nothing to do.

Crowfeather nodded acknowlegment. Mudclaw was right. "We lost a kit and a new warrior due to all this. Its wrong. Our clan must look like cowards to the others no matter how many stong warriors we have that didnt want to leave..."

Mudclaw watched Sunflare go, a private burst of anger filling his chest at how broken she looked. His claws had dug into the earth without him noticing; he absently shook the dirt off and began to clean them.
"What do you think of Panicfur and Gleamingmist, Crowfeather?" He cast a sidelong glance at the dark warrior. At some point he'd decided to trust Crowfeather. "StarClan may deem our current leaders unworthy, and then we'll need strong cats to succeed them. The deputies would be an obvious choice, but if they went along with this madness..." Berrykit was right. Mudclaw did want to be deputy. Very, very badly.

Berrykit was glad that Mudclaw managed to talk Sunflare into leaving her alone. But now she couldn't sneak away from the camp without other cats noticing. Oh well. Maybe this conversation would be both interesting and easy to understand.
Alarmed at how the brown tom sounded, plus his claws burrowing into the ground, Berrykit cocked her head in confusion. Did Windclan's flight really bother him that much? Was it really that bad?
Then again, reflecting her memories in the crisis, living was difficult during those times. Were the warning dreams really worth all that trouble?
"Panicfur and Gleamingmist are ok. But why would Starclan want to demote the leaders after sending Windclan the messages of danger?"
((I'm sure she can join. Berrykit is here after all. XD))

Ashpelt watched Sunflare walk away before she turned to Berrykit and the two toms. "We don't know what those messages were for, and they were sent to our medicine cat, not our leaders. I don't recall the signs telling us to leave. It was their choice. After all, nothing happened relating to the signs anyway. Starclan may have been testing the bravery of the clan, and we were made to flee. What did that get us?"

"Huh, those furbrained dopes? They follow the leaders without a second thought. I dont think it ever occured to them that deputies are to speak with their leaders, and try to reason and advise. Plus, with this bunch of fox dung that they're hearing, they wouldnt make very good leaders to go along with it. But, If they had a good deputy, then perhaps that cat could talk some sense into them," Crowfeather answered. He then looked down at Berrykit. "Leaders are not maent to just run at any sign of danger, Berrykit. They are supposed to gather more information, and make the best desicion. They should have spoken to Autumnbreath more and tried to reason with her. Or at least get that mouse brained apprentice of hers to."
