I actually heard this one myth about how Zeus and Hera got married.

It was a normal day in Greece and Hera was hopping around, a happy bachelorette (is that how you spell it?). Zeus fell in love with Hera and tried to get her to marry him but she refused. Then during a storm, Zeus transformed into a dove that was in trouble and Hera, not knowing the dove was Zeus, pitied the poor creature and nursed it back to health. Then the dove revealed itself to be Zeus and raped Hera. Out of shame, Hera decided to marry Zeus. THE END That story had a really happy ending didn't it?

I'm that kind of person that reads something about Hera and feels sorry for her but at the same time doesn't like her. When I try to choose between pitying Hera or hating Hera, I usually choose something in the middle. I'm like, "It's cruel that Zeus treats her like that, but it's also cruel that she lets it out on the wrong people." BUT after seeing this forum I now feel REALLY sorry for Hera because when looking at the cause of her anger, IT ALL GOES BACK TO ZEUS. THUS, MAKING IT ALL ZEUS' FAULT!

I also HATE it when Zeus takes advantage of people. Sure, the gods aren't perfect, but whenever Zeus takes advantage of some poor woman or anyone for that matter, it's always let out on the VICTIM and not the ATTACKER.

So all I'm saying, is Hera's rage is caused by Zeus' falling in love. The worst part about it is that in some versions of mythology after Prometheus stole fire from Zeus and gave it to man, Zeus created Pandora, the first woman, in order to distract men. Did he ever think of the effect it'd have on him?

She is just too vengeful to be a good goddess.

Er...I have mixed feelings on Hera...
Well, one, she DOES have a right to be angry...She was raped by her brother and he cheats her constantly...
But it annoys me how she takes it out on his children...I get taking it out on the woman (I mean, seriously, who is stupid enough to willingly piss off a goddess?), but it's not the children's fault...

Ugh, I don't want to insult a goddess. I really don't want to be struck down. I already have health problems, so I'm sure Apollo doesn't like me (Which makes me sad cause I LOVE Apollo...)
D=
So no, I don't need to piss off Hera...

Hera...hmm......hard to tell. She is strong and proud, but so jealous. There are many gods and goddesses in Greek mythology that are jealous..I don't see her as a bad goddess...more along the lines of spoiled and wanting attention. If he didn't cheat on her so much, she probably wouldn't be cruel...err...or as cruel......but she does bully Zeus lovers...so its a 50/50!!

Kenamarin_Shukai, I thought that Zeus and Hera were genuinely in love in the stories I heard. I guess I never heard that version.

I always figured she's taking it out on the women cause she sees them as just a bunch of skanky, mortal bitches that Zeus screws around with when he disregards what he could have with her.

In all fairness Hera is a goddess of childbirth and I am pretty sure Zeus only gave her one child( that would be Aries). Whereas Zeus knocks of every princess from here to Sparta. Not to mention if it weren't for his sleeping with every female he could find, Helen of Troy wouldn't have been born and there wouldn't have been a Trojan War. So yah, Hera has a right to be pissed off. Besides if Hera didn't try to kill Zeus' little bastards, they would just be nobodies. rofl

Hera gave Zeus more than one child.

Hephastois, and Ares.

Hera gave Zeus more than one child.

Hephastois, and Ares.

But Hephaestus is sometimes said to be just Hera's son.

I don't like Hera. In fact, I think most of the gods are selfish, vengeful, lustful, irreconcileable jerks. But oh-so interesting! whee

I think Hera is just too jealous about everything. Yeah, Zeus has given her plenty of good reasons to be, but still. And some of Zeus' lovers/offspring she punishes much more harshly than others. For example, would you rather be Io or Herakles? A cow or forced to perform deeds to atone for something that wasn't your fault (Hera's madness to kill Megara and his children)?

I actually respect Hera, even if I don't neccessarily like her or think she is the most useful god/godess.

She has every right to act the way she does, except that she lacks subtlty. I mean, she's in a pretty impossible situation. I think she should play the victim instead, and maybe take a word from Nemesis on revenge. Look sweet and betrayed and innocent for everyone else to flock to her side in pity, then instead of punishing Zeus's lovers and children, she should punish him anonymously, with tricks and what not. Oh, and making him jealous-- (though just for pretend, she shouldn't really have sex with another god/mortal man if she's marrige godess)-- would be good too. She's the godess of marrige? Well, it's time she shows the dark side of every relationship.

I have such sympathy for Hera. She had all the right in the world to be angry, in my humble opinion. After all, the only reason she even married Zeus was because he raped her and shamed her into the union.
Though I do gree that her anger is misplaced. Most of Zeus's "mistresses" are actually rape victims. He's such a whore, lol.
