Soft ears flicked backward in alarm as the stallion suddenly dropped to the ground. She took a half step back the look in her eye making her seem like she was preparing to flee. As soon as she realized what he was doing she calmed and rooted herself in place once again.

In her heart she was smiling. Just to see his ears turned forward, actually listening, it made her happy. No one had ever acted like this before, acted like what she had to say was important. It was very nice and in a way he was okaying her to continue what she was saying. Granting her permission to speak in a non-verbal way.

"I...I was happy..."She said quietly, hoping that this was the answer he was looking for. "To know...that I'm having children...but now...I think...I've done something wrong..." Her voice dropped so low that had a cricket been chirping nearby she wouldn't have been heard.

It was easy to be comfortable as he sat waiting, listening. Scarlet had just about took off when he moved, tense still till she realized he was being submissive perhaps. It didn't mean much to him. He could get up whenever he felt the need. He was in no hurry to move on, aimlessly throughout the rest of his day.

His eyes didn't blink when she started to speak, in fact, when she got to the point about children, he stopped breathing..

His thoughts quickly remembered the only mare he had ever 'been with', one who's name he never knew, nor even spoke with. It was a hormonal clash that brought the pair together for one night, and one night only. As luck would have it...she might of conceived. Lucario even came across a lone child once, and was afraid that it could of been his. A stallion who feared nothing, feared having a son under such terms. A son that never knew of his father, then if he did know his father, his father could of told him nothing of his mother. He was ashamed, and knew it was no way for either of them to live life. He had quietly left the foal, never to find out, never to even think about it again, till now.. The thoughts flew through his minds in about a minutes time, before he finally breathed.

Fate had a sense of humor it seemed. At least this was something that he had no part of.

After his pause, in which he might of been staring through the mare, his eyes refocused. "What makes you think you've fallen in the wrong?" He pressed the question to her. It was a personal question, one he might not normally ask. Here he sat though, suddenly curious.

Gentle brown eyes looked over the odd stallion curiously as his eyes lost focus. She wondered if perhaps he too had some defense that kept him from saying and doing certain things. When his attention came back to waking reality he asked a question and Scarlet didn't know what to do.

Most days she liked questions. They told her to speak in an odd way and they let her express what needed to be said somewhat freely. She was not sure she liked this particular question however. To be truthful in answering it meant speaking ill against one who had looked after her for so long. She didn't want to answer, but at the same time it was exactly what she wanted.

"He left." She said sadly. It was a short answer but somehow it told the entire story. She wanted to stop there but a small voice in the back of her mind kept urging her forward. "He was told...what had happened...and he left." Her eyes were shining with tears that threatened to fall. She didn't understand it. He had always acted like this was what he wanted but when he had finally gotten it he hadn't stuck around long enough to see her. Was she just not what he wanted?

Lucario watched on as her voice changed, releasing easily the emotion she had been holding back. Froze on the ground, he stayed focused on her as she tried to tell more. He had left. There was a pain that made it seem like she knew the stallion quite well, and had intended on him being there for her. Maybe they were in love, or maybe it was a love only half shared. He assumed they knew more than just each others name at least. She wouldn't have such a sadness about her if she wasn't close to him.

A name. His mind suddenly became bent on knowing on thing. "What is your name?" came the most forward reply. He already knew more about this mare than any other he had met. It only made sense to ask her name before they continued.

The sudden question didn't bother her in it's seemingly random nature. A question was a question after all and questions were wonderful things for her. "I have been named Scarlet Wing." She said. The responce had become quite programmed and she answered almost the exact way at all times. It was never 'my name is' but always 'I have been named' or 'I am called'. She did not know if she could call it her name as she had only been recently given it.

Her heart sank as she remembered the conditions that she had recieved the name.

It all seemed to be a loop, or perhaps a knot. Everything about her at the moment came right back to the same stallion. She was who she was today because of him but that didn't seem to mean much of anything.

"Scarlet Wing, my name is Lucario. I can assure you that I will never forget your name."

He went on. "Would you rather have never known the sire at all? Would it hurt less, is what I'm asking you." At least he didn't know how close they were as a whole, but it was evident that she felt close to the father. This was something Lucario wasn't too sure about. He had never had feelings for anyone, nor knew if he ever would. Seemed to cause more trouble with this mares heart, than perhaps it was worth.

He imagined that even once you have love, not everyone appreciates it. Might be the case with Scarlet's fella.

She nodded taking his name to memory. She was a bit puzzled, however, for why he needed to assure her that he wouldn't forget her name. Did he forget names often?

She did not get much time to think on the subject as his next question hit her like a mountain. How did he seem to know how to ask just the right questions to help her and hurt her all at once. The help was the question itself, the hurt was that some questions should not be answered. Again this was one of those cases. Her mind was starting to feel hazy again, like it was trying to strangle itself.

"I...I...I..." She stuttered out shaking her head frantically trying to clear her mind. "No...I...yes...I...I...I don't...know...I can't tell...you." The words she spoke didn't seem to make much sense but in her own mind they rang out loud and clear. There was no way that she wished that she hadn't met Dark and at the same time she did wish this hadn't happened. If she wasn't so close to him then she wouldn't be so confused and hurt right now but if she hadn't have been so close then she knew that a whole new kind of pain would be holding her.

It was as though no matter what she did some ill fortune was waiting for her

"Hmm." is all he could muster as he carefully assessed her reaction. A fog had enveloped her speaking, and she seemed torn between her answers.

Intent on finishing what he had started, he adjusted himself, rising back up to his feet. His height was needed for the sincerity of his words.

"Miss Scarlet Wing, perhaps the one thing that should matter most to you now, is you. If your knight has left you to fend for yourself, then be strong, and do just that. It might not be what you want out of this life, but live it for what it is." he paused for a moment, not wanting to rush his words.

"Look after yourself, in his stead. Live your life for Scarlet. By doing so, you might just be the best mother a foal could hope for. Independence can be your badge of pride, passed onto the ones you bare."

He stood, towering in front of her, unmoving. He didn't even blink.

What he hand intended to do by standing she did not know but what she did know was that she was suddenly very scared again. She shrank down to the ground her ears pinned back. Her mind was fuzzy but she heard everything he said loud and clear. It was the odd thing about her no matter what happened she always heard others. It was almost as thought she had no choice about it.

Listening to Lucario now, however, was proving difficult as he said words that she didn't really want to hear.

She didn't know how to be independent. Even she was a foal she had been with others. She had been bossed around since day one. She couldn't stand on her own just like that. She just couldn't.

Her ears pinned themselves against her head as a sharp pain shot through her head. She wasn't supposed to be remembering these things or thinking about them at all. "I'm sorry." She said in a monotone making no inclination as to what she was sorry about.

Lucario stood peering down at Scarlet. He watched her cower again, submissively, defensively, with her ears pinned back. But something else was bothering her, more than his monstrous size and appearance.

He watched in silence as she fainted the words "I'm sorry." It didn't seem to have the emotion it needed to be directed at him. He had hurt her merely by assuming what he had said, was what she needed to hear. This was not what he had intended. Truly the soquili race was a difficult one, so full of unpredictable emotions.

He leaned in closer to her ears that she held tight against her head, hushing his voice to a booming whisper. "Relax, I'll not mention it again. I told you I wouldn't hurt you, and it seems I have done just that." he held close to her ear for a moment longer than was needed, before pulling himself back upright.

Setting a slow, steady pace, he backed away from the dusty rose colored mare, then waited. He held still, and would take his leave if she needed him to. Normally, he would of just left, without a word..

She didn't move at first. She didn't even flinch when he spoke directly into her ear. Her mind was busy thinking things over despite the pain throbbing in her skull demanding that she stop. After a few moments of fighting with herself she turned her head to look at the stallion then shook it.

"It's not your fault..."She said softly referring to her pain. It was true that what he had said had triggered it but he was not the one that had made her this way. It wasn't his fault. If the blame were to fall on anyone it would be herself for being so foolish when she were younger.

She winced as another spark went off in her brain telling her to stop thinking. She listened to it this time and focused her thoughts on other things, like moving her body. With a surprising amount of effort she forced herself to stand and follow after Lucario stopping a few feet away from him. "I do not mean to be this way..." She continued unsure of whether she should explain herself or not. He seemed to be curious about her so she didn't think there would be any harm in speaking a bit more then she typically would. "I just..." she paused getting the strangest feeling that if she said what she was truly thinking her mind would have something to say about it. "Am..."

Lucario was at a loss. The extreme emotions of the mare were something he had no idea how to deal with. It stumped him that nothing he said made things better, but rather seemed to make things worse. Was honesty really all that bad? He exhaled, as the time that seemed he would walk away, had come. Until Scarlet seemed to shake her silence off.

"Miss..." he said, straightening his posture as she walked towards him. "..maybe I am to blame more than one might be willing to admit. It seems my lack of connecting to others, has proved this situation to be a challenging one." Again with the honesty. The only thing he knew how to do, was walk away after all. That was what he was good at. He didn't stop to make small talk with anyone, and this was more personal than any -How do you do's- that normal soquili might exchange on a regular basis.

"You seem conflicted somehow, and anything I have to say, might bring more harm than aid." With her delicate condition, Lucario's less than delicate outlook could easily have the adverse reaction. If he wanted things to go more smoothly, he would have to stop being such a shut-out from the soquili society.

He lowered his head to one side, trying to look into her eyes, narrowing his own as he did. The look was one of this sire, trying for the first time ever, to figure someone out. She really was a curious one, that he did know.

He did not understand. It seemed no one really did. It was not any one's fault that she couldn't be connected with. There were just so many things she was not to think or talk about. It caused so many problems. So very many problems.

Her eyes closed slowly and she bowed her head. She was conflicted. He said she was and it seemed so very true. There were so many things in her mind things that brought her pain and seemed to cause others troubles as well.

"I'm sorry." She said taking a step back. Her voice was soft, so quiet it wouldn't be heard if the wind were to pick up. Really she was. Sorry for everything. It seemed that she should leave but she could not. It would be rude and it carried the potential to create more problems for the both of them. She didn't want to trouble anyone but that was how it always seemed to happen.

If Lucario didn't have a spike jutting out from his chest, he might of been inclined to give her a hug. Something told him that she needed someone to be close, but he could not give her the closeness she was searching for. It would of been pointless then.

He lowered his head even further, as she now began to back away. Surely he had said something to set things amiss again. It was confusing him, and he couldn't help feel it was in fact, time to go.

"Hey." he called to her, demanding her attention for a moment more. "I may not know much, but I think this might be something best figured out by you." he paused.

"Should we cross paths again..." he cut the sentence off as he turned around. The statement meaning just that. "Farewell." he bid, as he looked over his shoulder at her with a look that almost framed a smile.

With a wild force, he turned and sped away, creating distance between the two in record time. He wasn't running from her, rather away from the vision he saw of himself standing there. Had he stuck around a little longer, he might of started to give a damn. It was a weakness in him he didn't care to be familiar with. Little did he know, it would only strengthen himself to open his soul to others.
