A Short Cat Nap

The young collector was a bit of a shut in, a person that didn't got outside of his house often unless there was either something that he really needed or there was news on one of the items he was searching for. Aside from that everything he needed was brought to him from food to clothing to the occasional company of those who he once went to school with. His life revolved around the finding of ancient tomes and then translating them.

The current scrolls he had were a difficult language to read, old and the one who wrote it out seemed to have an unsteady hand with his quill. It was a mess and after three days straight without sleep he had found himself nodding off, head tilted back and his eyes closed. He'd only gotten a paragraph done thus far... it was an interesting incantation he thought. His last thought before he was dozing.

His dreams drifted from one topic to the next, as many mortals' do. But, strangely, this dream drifted to a plane far beyond his own. A softly lit world, with pure soft clouds and a glittering city upon them. His soul floated over the city and into it's tallest tower. Inside a dark, seemingly unused room at the top of the highest tower in the city, was a young woman in a glittering white cape.

All that was visible of this woman was her long dark hair and her soft gray hands. In her arms were two bundles, which she was cooing to. Faina's soul landed near her and she smiled softly, under her hood. "A greeting to you." she said gently, a musical voice reaching out towards him.

Faina looked around the room, lifting a hand to rub at his eyes as if that would wake him up from whatever strange dream he was having. When he lowered his hand and he remained in the same place he gave a little, hesitant wave to the woman in front of him, "Ahhh... hello." He murmured. This had to be one of his oddest dreams he could recall.

The woman sat up slightly and turned to Faina more so he could get a better look at the babes in her arms. One was a soft pale child with hair the color of rubies and the other was black as night, with silver designs upon his skin. "These boys will be yours to care for." she told him, her gentle tone firm about the statement.

Faina blinked a couple times and for a moment it was as if he couldn't understand a word she was saying despite having knowledge of many foreign languages. He then gave a chuckling sound, "You must have the wrong person... I can't take keep plants alive let alone a pair of little children." He said, looking at the pair and felt fear flood his chest. It wasn't that he was afraid of them but more afraid he wouldn't be able to do right by them.

"They selected you for a reason, Faina. You shall care for these two and keep them a secret until their time comes. Do as you see fit, and care for them to the best of your ability. That is all that is asked of you, and all these two deserve at this time. A humble home where they shall be raised with knowledge, rather then one with little knowledge where they will be spoiled. Take them and raise these two well. Your teachings may be their only hope for redemption." she said softly, standing and placing the two into his arms.

Within moments he awoke, at his table, a large basket, bearing the two sleeping children, sitting at his feet.

Waking...

Faina's eyes fluttered and opened, jerking to sitting up and he lifted a hand to rub at his head. What a weird dream... the first thought to come to mind, that he had just been overworking himself and his mind had thought up something really really strange. It was nothing more then that... The line of thought was shattered though when he heard the sound of breathing from nearby. He blinked a couple times before turning to look down. At his feet were the two babies, the ones from his dream sleeping deeply in a baby basket.

"Oh... no." He murmured, sliding out of his seat so that he could kneel in front of the basket. He could recall her words, telling him that it was up to him to watch after them, protect them, and hide them... hide them?

"From what?" He murmured, letting his eyes close, "What am I supposed to be hiding them from?" As if he would be given an answer. All that he was answered with though was a long, drawn out silence.

He opened his eyes again and he found himself being starred at by one of the two children, the dark skinned one. Their gazes met and they were starring at each other in silence for a long moment before dark colored hands covered in silver markings reached out and in what could only be seen as possessive he wrapped himself around on of the other child's arms.

"I won't take him from you." He said, sitting back but still watch the pair. How was he supposed to take care of two children? Sure he made enough money to support himself and his expensive hobbies by translating documents for other people but... money wasn't his fear it was that he didn't do well with people. He hid away from the world with his tomes and rarely left the house... it sounded though like that might be a good thing. Staying here, staying away from the outside would be for the best until he knew what danger he was hiding the pair from.

"I will try... will try my hardest." He whispered to them. It was a frightening thing, to suddenly become a parent. It wasn't as if he were given the normal nine months that parents were supposed to get so they could get used to the idea. It was in the blink of an eye and there wasn't one but instead two children that were handed over to him to care for.

"Just try to rest, I will see about something getting delivered here for you to eat." He told them, crawling from the foot of his desk to where he had a phone book sitting. He got it, got his phone, and dialed for the teenager he had working for him, the one that got his food and other supplies. The number was dialed and soon enough the food was on its way.

Shut In

It was a strange thing to find oneself looking out a window wondering about the people that were walking on the street. Any of them could be the ones that he was warned about, the people that wanted to hurt the two boys who were put into his care. Faina pulled closed the curtains so keep out the prying eyes of the people on the street and turned around to look over at the boys, "So little ones, I was thinking we should really find names for you." He told them, approaching the basket that the two were laying in. He'd kept using the large basket for their bed because it worked well. If it wasn't broke no need to replace it he'd figured.

He had been unable to give them names to begin with, after all he'd figured the higher power that had given them to him would end up taking them back when they realized he wasn't the most fit parent. That hadn't happened though, the boys had been with him for a few days now and he was sure that the women he'd seen in his dreams wasn't coming back. These two were here to stay which meant that he couldn't just keep referring to them by their coloring or their gender. He had to pick out names for them now, it was time.

He sat down in front of the pair and reached a hand out to lay it between them. It had taken some time but it would seem as if the boy with the silver markings was finally getting used to him enough that he would let him approach the one with red hair. It was difficult to begin with when the redhead needed food, drink, or changed the silver marked boy would scream, flail, and otherwise show his discontent over losing the other boy that he considered to be 'his'. At least now when the red haired boy needed something Faina was allowed to give him just that.

"What to call you." He murmured, watching as the pair reached out to inspect his hand, poke at it, then grasped hold of it and tugged, "Lets see now... You my silver marked boy, I think I have the perfect name for you."

The boy starred up at him in a glaring sort of way, as if to say 'do you now'.

Faina gave a smile, "Yep, I do." He said again, as if to confirm it, "I think that you should be called Adrian. It means 'dark one'." He gave a chuckle as if it were the best idea ever, a good play on words and the fact that the boy had such a dark skin tone.

The two boy starred up at him blankly, obviously to young to find the same humor in the name that he did so he gave a shrug and looked over to the red haired boy, "Now you. I was thinking about the name Jadian. I can't recall the names meaning off hand but it was a good one, I will have to look it up."

He gave a smile before he went to get a matching pair of bottles which had some formula prepared in them, "Here you go Adrian, Jadian. You two drink up and then get a little nap what do you think? After you get a nap then you can come out of your basket and play."

The pair took the bottles from his hands happily and were soon gulping down the tasty meal.

Faina
I have been carefully watching after the pair that were put into my care and I find myself growing more and more confused. I take good care of them every moment of the day, I make sure they are always happy, that they are always safe, and I am starting to wonder why they were given over to me. Who out there in Gaia would be so cruel as to have ill intentions toward the pair? Mere children.

Jadian is a sweet and quiet boy, always wants hugs and to sit in my lap while I work. He wants to learn, loves when I read to him, or just to be able to hear my voice. His brother isn't quite as amiable, tending to be more of a loner wanting to be left to do his own thing. Except where Jadian is involved...

The red head is obviously his weakness so I will do my best to make sure they aren't separated. Its a bad idea, Jadian once crawled into the laundry basket for a nap and upon finding him lost Adrian started throwing a screaming tantrum until his friend was found. They share a deep connection, something that I can't quite comprehend yet.

I am doing what is best for them but I think it would be easier to take protect them if I knew who our enemies were.

Leaving the House

Faina was doing something that Faina didn't often do, he was getting ready to go out into the outside world. He didn't often leave the house, didn't have many reasons to go outside really, there was nothing that drew him out when he was living by himself, he could have whatever he wanted or needed delivered to him by order it thorugh the computer but now... that wasn't as much of an option now that he had his boys. He looked down at Jadian who was gazing up at him with large, blue eyes before he gave a little sneeze... then lifted a hand to run at his nose, sniffling. He had woke up with sniffles, a cough, looking a little pale and feeling warm... he had an appointment set up for his son already and was working on getting him ready to go.

He was dressed in a long shirt that looked a bit like a dress on him... which he seemed to like dancing around in at most times, he had on some pants under it, socks, shoes, and was currently getting his coat put on and zipped up, "Hows that?" Faina asked as he pulled the boy's hood up.

Jadian gave a smile despite his cold, lifting his hands to smother another round of sneezes but despite the fact that he was under the weather it didn't seem to be affecting his attitude, ever looking bright and happy... something that threw Faina for a loop. One would think that feeling ill would make him want to lay down instead of toddling around after his father as he got everything set up.

Now his brother on the other hand... there was a loud and violent sounding crash from the other room that caused Faina to give a little wince, "There goes my lamp." He muttered, looking toward the sound. Adrian... was pissed off to say the least, he'd been forced into a shirt, pants, socks, shoes and a coat just as his brother was but seemed to be reacting negatively to being covered like that, all his pretty markings were covered up! It would seem he didn't approve, not seeming to understand that they were going out today or that Jadian wasn't well.

Faina knelt down to scoop the red head up into his arms and walked out of the dining room into the living room where Adrian was tromping and stomping around, growling and looking menacing... until he saw Jadian in Faina's arms, "Eh?" Wait, what was going on? He abandon the stalking of his next victim which was going to be the second of the two matching lamps to instead walk over to his father to glare up at him.

The man knelt down to pick up Adrian, "Come on, we are going to be going soon. Once the cab shows up." He should see about hitting some stores today as well, get some other clothing for the boys on top of the other things that he needed to gather for them. They needed so many things, children were expensive little things... he had never known that but it was alright, he was lucky in that he had enough money to be able to cover things even if he weren't expecting it.

Adrian looked at his father in a suspicious manner, "Go?" He asked, not sure what that meant, where were they going? They never went anywhere... the farthest he could recall going so far was out into the backyard which was enclosed by a massive fence. So the idea of going somewhere else was... interesting. He looked at his brother and his interest waned a bit in leaving when he took in his brother's current condition. He looked tired didn't he? Kind of pale and off... his form stiffened as he reached one small hand out to his brother in a curious manner, "Eh? Eh?"

Jadian had his head leaned against his father's shoulder, seeming to be dozing off... but opened his eyes at his brother's voice, looking at him, gave him a smile, and then let his eyes sink closed again. He wanted to assure his brother but he was to sleepy to be doing that at the moment, later maybe.

There was a honking sound from outside and Faina started toward the door, "Time to go boys, doctor first and then we will see where we want to go from there." He told them, the door closing behind them quietly leaving the house empty for the first time in a long time.

Official Prompt: Whut?

It seems Adrian has done something or another to upset his brother and after they get into a fight (or their one-sided version of fighting), all of Adrian's tattoos start glowing and burning him like brands. For the next week he can't get near his brother or do anything bad or they'll start burning again and make him extremely sick (well, for a kid). This means two things: firstly that Adrian has to be by himself and behave, and secondly, that Jadian has to go and do stuff by himself without his brother around. What happens?

If this prompt is unsatisfactory or a different one needs to be put up, please contact Dgcakes at once.

The Rift

The twins were rather miserable... and living room was in shambles... Adrian was in a terrible mood and took it out on everything around him to begin with, breaking things, throwing them about which only made his pain worse which only made his anger worse... the living room was all but torn apart when he finally collapsed with a fever.

Any time that Jadian went near him it only got worse, the strange illness that made no sense to Faina despite his extensive research on the subject as well as what the tattoos meant and what they were doing to the boy. It was... wrong, they were hurting Adrian and it was making Faina angry... why would they be like this? Why would the woman who had given the pair to him allow such a cruel thing?

Jadian was doing as bad as his brother if not worse, quiet and alone, withdrawn... he watched him from the doorway to the room that Adrian had been put into to rest and recovered inside of. He knew he wasn't supposed to go near him or let Adrian see him... it just got bad when they were near to each other, the pain that his brother felt... it was his fault. Going near him hurt Adrian... he hurt his brother without even trying.

It was... a tough week to say the least, just when it seemed like Adrian would recover his temper would spark and he would get knocked senseless with fever again. Just when he thought he was going to be able to leave the room and he got to close to his brother which started it all over again...

From there it got even more difficult as though things weren't already just that. Adrian was a smart boy even if he didn't let on as much, he could put two and two together and realize what caused him pain. It was his brother. So he remained in the small room that he'd been banished to, he kept himself calm, and he ignored Jadian so that he would be able to recover. If his brother... brother... pft... if Jadian being away from him meant that he would be better, no longer be in pain or ill then he would keep him away.

Jadian seemed to slowly understand the same, as he watched the way that Adrian blatantly ignored him, looked everywhere but at him, and even if he were in line of sight his brother seemed to look through him... His brother was mad but it wasn't his normal sort of yelling, screaming, breaking stuff mad. If he were mad like that the tattoos would act up and hurt him. Instead it was a quiet, simmering sort of mad that was just below the surface as he recovered.

He seemed to feel... pained. Adrian was a friend when he didn't have any other friends, was there when nobody else was... and now he felt the rift between them appearing and with each moment it was widening. The end of the week came quickly and Adrian seemed to be completely recovered, back to being himself and he left the room allowed to wander the house once more... as he left the room Jadian came running up to him, a look of relief on his face and ran into Adrian's hands instead of his arms.

The red head flailed his arms rapidly before landing on his backside, "A-Adrian...?"

Adrian glared down at him then stepped over him, walking by and murmured, "Its your fault I got sick... your fault I was hurting Jadian. I hate you." With that he kept going into the kitchen to find something to eat, leaving his brother sitting there in tears.
