Alright, I've actually read the whole thing, and that's very odd for me--so you know I'm interested and dedicated to this subject.
Now it may seem like I'm going off track for a bit, but stay with me, alright?
I 100% believe that if one believes in something 100%, that it is real for that person. (Like Christians believe in the Christian god 100% and I don't..."He" is real for them, but not me--etc.) So if YOU believe that there are Otherkin and you've researched, meditated, asked around on the physical and astral plane, and you know, without a doubt, 100% that there ARE Otherkin out there, and you believe that you're one of them--then you ARE one of them.
The trick is believing 100%.
My advice to you is to read and research every angle on the topic...keeping an open and questioning mind about everything you can get your hands on. Sometimes Wiccans forget to do that, myself included. But it is very important. It's the only way that you'll know, in your mind and heart and soul, without a doubt, that you are what you are and you have your convictions and views for a reason.
But if you do believe 100%, don't let anyone take that away from you. They don't believe in it, it's not real to them. But it's real to you.
Bright Blessings to you, Dear. Keep your head up. It was a great topic!

Thanks for ... the support ^^;
SO now... i'm still wavering in what i am, but i'ma just call myself a shifter. (lemme explain.. XD) not meaning i think i can shift myself. But that's what the "fae" is inside of me.
Now, an otherkin IS what they believe to be. Like uh... if they think they're a dog spirit, they are just that. (lemme see if this makes sense...) _ but with me, it's like i'm human, but there's also a fae inside of me. So i'm just going by what she is than "otherkin" unless there's another name for it.
No, it's not split personality disorder ^^; So please don't try pushing that one me ;3 -- Anyway. Just... saying that to make things interesting. That's what my boyfriend and i have decided to do: just call ourselves by what 'they' are. The ones inside of us. ^^;
SO ANYWAY. thoughts? sweatdrop

So, okay, wait...your Fae shifts and you don't. What does it shift into?

WelkingPath So, okay, wait...your Fae shifts and you don't. What does it shift into? Well she shifts into ... well, a better way would be to say this: She can change things like her wings, and mask her appearance vaguely (color of skin, hair, length of hair). She's still a child, by her world's standards and is still learning, so her skills are not that great. And she was raised in a fae society, not with her own kind. So learning has been hard for her. As far as I know she can't shift into objects or animals, nor do i know if her particular species does so.

As a nephilim otherkin, I'd say that phoenix' description is pretty damn perfect. When a soul is created, it is created completely perfectly for the body that it is born into. Because we all reincarnate, and because we are reincarnated differently almost every time, sometimes we will be born into a body that isn't the perfect fit for the soul. Otherkin therefore are simply souls whose bodies don't fit perfectly, and so are people who are transexual. If a male soul is born to a female body, then the soul will feel uncomfortable and may wish to change the physical body to match the soulic body. Otherkin, though, are at a disadvantage because there's no way to find the "correct" skin, so we're stuck feeling a little uncomfortable and out of the loop. Contrary to popular belief, this does not make us special or anything terribly exciting, just different.

... that would make sense. I always assumed it was the most recent life you'd feel and remember the most, which left me wondering what the hell happened between probable extinction half a million years ago and now.

candiipup stare meh i knew it was a bad idea posting this. Its never a bad idea to post about something like this when you're in a forum about magic and Gods. Sure, you will get mixed reactions, but thats good, because everybody's opinions are different. Now, being a Draconic Otherkin, I'm going to have to disagree that we feel "horns on our head," because I certainly don't. I do, however, get severe itching sensations where my wings would connect if I weren't in a human body. And sometimes I get the sensation of them flexing and moving, when I know they aren't there, and its just synapse misfires, like with people who are missing, say, a leg but still feel it sometimes. And sometimes, not often, but sometimes, I feel a twitching where my tail would be, or a pain as if I've knocked it into something, despite its non-existence. Now, when I say I am a Dragon, what I mean is not that I think I was put into the wrong body, or that I can shape shift, or anything like that. But ever since I was little, the same time I was having my dreams about Dionysus, I always felt that my soul wasn't originally meant to be human, and that I was a Dragon. I never knew or looked into the term Otherkin until very, very recently. And I decided that it was as good a name for what I am as anything, so I've adopted it. What I mean when I say that I am a Dragon, that I am Draconic, is that my soul, more than once, has inhabited the form of a Dragon. Maybe not on this planar frequency, but certainly on another. (Basically, in another world.) Or hell, maybe even on a distant planet. Who knows? Its not impossible. Or, perhaps, I am the incarnation of a Dragon Spirit from this world. Because I have successfully summoned a Dragon Spirit before. The kind that have never had physical body, kind of like elementals. There are many possible reasons I believe I have a Draconic Soul, but the truth is, I don't know why, I've just always known I was right. Being Otherkin is a lot like being a Transgender person for some people, as well. They don't feel right in their own skin, so to speak. They feel their physical form is wrong. Thats not how I feel, but some Otherkin do feel that way. A lot of Otherkin claim to be Werecreatures or Therians, and a lot of them also claim to be Elves, Dragons, Fae, things like that. Not all of them are being truthful, for some people its just an escape from reality, like Bob Smith who works at McDonalds likes to think he is an Elf in order to escape the mediocrity of his real life. The truth is, the reasons are different for everyone who is or claims to be Otherkin. And not everyone who is Otherkin knows the term for it, or even that there are others like them, like me for example. I'd heard the term, but I'd never felt the need to look into what it meant. When I did, I found that it described me. In addition to being Draconic, I've found I also fit the term Indigo Child, which seems to be connected to Otherkin in one way or another. Actually, Indigo Child seems to fit my whole family. Indigo Children can be designated by a deep feeling of self-definition, a feeling that they are meant to make a huge impact on the world in some way, being in tune with the thoughts of others, high empathic powers, being drawn to mysteries, spirituality, the paranormal, and the occult, certain disorders like ADD/ADHD, OCD, or Autism, and are sometimes prone to either persistent nightmares, or insomnia. Take away the ADD/ADHD, Autism, and nightmares, and that pretty much describes me to a T. I will admit to having several OCD tendencies, but they aren't anything major, and don't affect my life much. But even Indigo Children aren't always Indigo Children. One child who claimed to be Indigo took his story from Avatar: The Last Air Bender, but the man with whom he spoke, who was used to dealing with Indigo's, had no prior knowledge of the show and believed the child until someone pointed it out. It was actually an article run in a paper, I can't remember where. The readers wrote into the paper to make them aware that the child was probably simply pretending to live out a fantasy he'd seen and fell in love with. So its really hard to tell, on a case-by-case level, who is for real and who is making it up... Especially if you don't know the source of their story, in which case you might believe a false Indigo. I, personally, am a Maenad. Nothing special, just a wild woman of Dionysus. My friend Aaron makes Indigo claims, but I don't think he has any idea of the concept. He keeps weaving this fantastical story, and wants to drag me into it. He claims to be Horus. I can't tell if he is making it up, or if he really does believe it. So even with being one myself, I have a hard time distinguishing real from fantasy in this case. I've known the kid for something like 8 years. Just a year longer than I have been practicing magic, and I still don't know for sure. The one thing I do know is that his story would make a fantastic realistic fantasy fiction novel, if I were the kind of person to steal it. But since he is my friend, and since I do love him like family, I'll let him keep his idea, and listen to him elaborate on it as time goes.

Otherkin...I heard that term a year or so ago when researching for a vampire paper for school smile
The term kind of reminded me of myself because when I was younger I always felt out of place in my own body. I felt like I was someone special important, but it could've just been an over active imagination. Anyway this led to me playing several mind games with myself, talking to voices in my head(which sounds so dangerous now that I look back on it!). I never knew if the voices were just me or my head. I like to believe that they weren't, though the reason I stopped was fear for my sanity. I told them a reluctant good-bye.
Anyway, I think otherkin are real for some and not for others. I don't really know what tobelive since I'm still confused on a lot and havn't done a lot of meditation and have a long way to go on my magickal studies. It doesn't really matter because to some people it's a perfect term and means a bunch to them. To others, it's not going to click so they'll be skeptical. We'll all eventually know someday right?(Death)(or so I hope we get to know things then).

When i was a kid i called myself an elf/fae because i have slightly pointy ears. to the extent that other people point them out. And i say the word and got really, well, curious for one, i wanted to know more. but it kinda hit a spot with me. Then just today i was talking to my mother about it, she is wiccan too and is a real help whne im confused, and she said she always wondered the same thing about me too. You see my mother wasnt supposed to be able to have kids, but when she was about 22 she got pregnant with me. She says im her love child, i have a birth mark that looks just lke a heart and that i was almost like a gift from the powers that be. I was curious as to your veiw

Then it's clear. It's all about finding more about the inner you~ <3 The heart birthmark is really awesome, as well.

Ok... I have a really quick question for the Otherkin that have already posted and for any others that may post in the future: When you go out and there are young children (I mean like under the age of 5) do they stare at you intently?
I ask this because when my mate and I go out, younger children look at us with an intensity that sometimes scares us. My mate is Elven and I'm still trying to figure out what the heck I am. I'm just wondering if this happens to anyone else.
