I wish more people would get that "hippy" smell to them. Walking around with all sorts of body scented products and coated in perfume is very offensive to my nose and allergies.

Yeah, I know... for some reason a lot of artificial fragrances give me a rash. Back when I was 13 or so I used Herbal Essences shampoo every day, and it took me months to figure out that it was causing the little red bumps all over my chest and arms, since it took like three months for my to develop the sensitivity. For YEARS afterwards, if I so much as stood next to someone who used Herbal Essences the rash would start coming back instantly. Luckily now I'm not as sensitive so I can withstand casual contact with Evil Fragrances.
Actually nearly every brand of shampoo I've tried comes up with the same problem (including a lot of "natural" ones). Finally found out that Natures Gate doesn't cause problems with me, which is good, because the no-shampoo regimines only work so-so for me. My hair looks fine if it's in a bun or braids or something, but just looks sad and limp if I leave it down, unless I use some sort of shampoo and conditioner. crying So now it's proper washings with Nature's Gate maybe once or twice a week, and just rinse (nettle infusion with a dash of vinegar) on the other days if I'm showering.
Oh yeah, and Special Effects brand purple hairdye every so often too xd :
(Nettle infusion = best dandruff cure ever, by the way)

Little red bumps? Interesting - I break out in those every now and then - I'm going to pay more attention to what's around me on those days. :3

I can't stand fragrances - I much rather smell a bit of sweat then cheap perfume. I actually like the smell of my boyfriend after a hard day of work.

Another thing people don't understand that it really piles up. You have your shampoo, your bodywash/soap, cream, deodorant, make up, perfume on top of that and then what you wash your clothes with. Each with their own fragrance.

This woman I work with is a chemical bath. I can smell her outside of the building. From all my experience, natural body odors don't "waft" like their scented chemical counterparts.

Jestina I really like the shampoo products from Carnia. The products aren't "certified" organic, but are naturally harvested from around Vancouver. I've met the owner of the company and he's a really sweet guy. The formulas were passed down to his father by the natives of the area.

bad news bears

i've used tom's of maine for a while now, and all of a sudden i broke out hardcore today. it's not a new stick or anything. i just freaked out. it's actually a bit painful and looks like a sunburn, and the only areas affected are the immediately surrounding skin of my armpit. like, where the hair grows isn't red, but everything around that area is.

i took a shower to rinse it off and then took a whiff of my deoderant.
it smelled weird and not what it smelled like a couple of days ago.

weirddd.

i guess i'm going back to the crystal for a while.

the same thing happened to me with Tom's deodorant. I was happy using it for a while then, BAM, massive irritation under my arms any time I used it. I'm still happy using the crystal. It's worked the best so far.

The salt crystals sound cool, but the only brands that I can find are Thai something or other, and I'm a little twitchy about buying Thai because of the whole child prostitution thing in Thailand... It's just me being biased sweatdrop I don't know if the brands had anything to do with Thailand or not, but either way I'm going to try "Organic Grooming Men's Deodorant" by Herban Cowboy. It sounds cool and is organic and vegan; the other non-plant products are pretty much a soap extract, salt, silver, and baking soda xd

Ingredients: Propylene glycol, organic aloe barbadensis leaf juice, silver, sodium stearate, fragrance, organic rosemary leaf extract, organic sage leaf extract, organic cucumber fruit extract, organic parsley extract, sodium bicarbonate

I'll letcha know how it works once I get it in.

Sounds like it will smell yummy.

Somedays I'm lazy and don't bother with the salt crystal. Just some powder under my arms so they aren't all sticky. Plus I get to smell like babies. ^__^

After using the crystal for a while I think it's become one of those situations where you used so much deodorant because they tend to be heavily scented and not being so heavily scented made you think you smelled bad. There's a natural odor that comes with sweat but if your hygiene is good you shouldn't smell horrific come the end of the day.

The real active ingredient in this is the silver, and I am unsure about how much silver can be absorbed through the skin. You might want to check that out before you use this long-term. wink

Absorbing silver probably won't hurt you - but it may make you turn blue. xd

I've heard tell that washing your armpits with vinegar is a good way to reduce armpit odor.

Personally, I don't have a lot of armpit odor to speak of, so I never really do much about it except wash up with soap and water in the shower. sweatdrop

Trader Joe's has their own brand of deodorant. I think it works pretty well, it says it has cotton fibers to soak up the moisture. It kind of sort of helps the smell, like I don't wreak, but I still smell a little. I've stopped using it for the moment because it's way too humid, but I'll start using it again next month.

I've also tried Burt's Bees spray and did not like it at all and not worth $8! The lavender smell got overpowering and didn't help me from not smelling.

i've tried a few natural things and basically have given up and just continued to use secret clinical strength.

i have this stuff called Jason, which is apricot scented. it smells nice and works, but it's sticky and doesn't dry, and it BURNS especially after shaving.

i also have this stuff called herbal clear, it smells very nice and works pretty well, but it is also sticky and does not dry.
the stickiness isn't so bad for wearing a t-shirt, and i still use it sometimes. but it's very annoying to wear a tank top with.

i also bought a tiny crystal stick from sprouts, and it didn't work for me. i think i'm going to try it again today, though, after i shower.

okay so i tried the crystal again today, and it didn't work. it did for a while, until i sweated and it didn't cover up the smell.

Argyria is scary! Especially since it's irreversible. gonk

Berts little black cat - do you tend to sweat more on certain days? Look at what you've eaten that day compared to a less sweaty day. Since eating less meat, I sweat the same but completely odorless. There are often days I forget to do anything to my armpits.
