I like manga better, cuz they always change stuff when they make the anime. Espcially if it's translated to the American version, ugh! Look wut they did to one piece and Sailor Moon!!

I don't really like to compare the mangas to the animes because while most of the time, the storylines are the same, they throw different things in to mix it up. But I tend to prefer manga over anime strictly because of the fact that the art is much better. With animes, the qualty tends to dissipate because of how much is involved with getting it together whereas with mangas, you know you're getting the best quality. I know that's not always the case because some animes have better art then the mangas and they can sometimes expand on the storyline depending on how much time is still needed. But from my experience the mangas are usually better.
The only one that I can really compare at the moment is Vampire Knight. And as suspected manga > anime Though I'm enjoying seeing the characters come to life. >.>

Okay, first off-- even though I'm not much of a Death Note fan anymore I can safely say that the manga is better. The anime placed in a certain scene that was never in the manga and gave something for the greasy, yaoi fans to wank/finger them selves off too. (not to say that yaoi is a bad thing)
Second, both Nana and Paradise Kiss was better off in it's manga form. The art style changes drastically which ruins the beauty of Yazawa's vision. Also, as it is in most cases, they skip and change around things. This also goes for the first Nana movie-- unless if you were a Nana fan, you wouldn't know what the hell was going on.
Finally, the Cowboy Bebop manga looks like a fan made it. Simple as that. The anime and movie is a thousand times better.

Wow, generally people just say the original was better but here people are saying the anime is better in some cases, this is the kind of thread I like! X3
Generally I too prefer the manga because it can be hard to copy an artist's artwork therefore the anime seems a bit off at times [Like Full Moon and Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne]. Plus generally I find it rather hard to concerntrate on the screen for 30mins just to watch an episode whilst with manga I'm actually doing something [flicking the pages, etc].
Though with Naruto I somehow prefer the anime way more than the manga. It's just that the anime is exactly the same as the manga only with extras, I love the one episode fillers [like the Rock Lee and Gai dopplegangers]. I also prefer the Princess Tutu anime because it's longer and develops the story more... Though I guess this doesn't really count cause the anime was the original therefore not really making a point here xD;
A-A-And... I liked the One Piece dub xD;; That OP rap was just awesome XD; *gets shot* As for Death Note... well actually I prefer the Live action dramas to the manga and anime! XD *gets shot again* I haven't read the Hellsing mangas either though I agree that the OVAs are brilliant ^_^ Must read the manga someday~ Oh and I actually prefer the Nana movies to the manga and anime though I haven't completely finished either of them *gets shot a hundred times*
... Something tells me my opinions are gonna get me killed xD;;

I totally hear your point about concentration. I find myself drifting off when I watch television cos I'm such a day dreamer Hehe. I suppose it's different with anime because there are subtitles to read, though I still find myself doing it from time to time XD
I'm surprised you prefer the NANA and Death Note live actions. Most people loathe live action once the the manga and anime have done their damage. Haha. I've gotta say, I really loved the live action versions of both those mangas, but they also happen to be a couple of my favourite manga series, so there's not competiton to me preferring the originals in that instant.

Ichikage Kira I like manga better, cuz they always change stuff when they make the anime. Espcially if it's translated to the American version, ugh! Look wut they did to one piece and Sailor Moon!! yeah thats true they do usually change stuff when they make the anime when an anime is produce a director is chosen to guide make a show and just use the manga as a preference but can change it a little bit or change it completely. but with Hellsing they kept most of the things intact. and if something is modified then it will be the manga creator's fault (because he is in on the anime project too) if the manga creators were in on the anime project then I would say anime pwn manga all the way...that or if the director stick to the script (copy the manga completely) and Sailor Moon english Dub is funny

Usually I like the manga better but there are a few exceptions.
Hm, well the Wolf's Rain anime was definitely better than the manga.
I actually like the Excel Saga anime better than I like the manga.
In some ways I think the Angelic Layer anime is far superior to the manga, but there are a few key things that really bothered me in the anime too.
I thought both the Chrono Crusade anime and manga were really good in different ways. I also really liked both the anime and manga of Azumanga Diaoh.

I personally think that the mangas generally do a better job in terms of telling stories. However, I believe certain elements in anime outshine the manga. For instance, Nana and Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad. You know that they're great singers/performers in the manga with the stills that they insert. But because of the advantage of sound in anime, you actually hear what they're singing. This goes for the action oriented as well. Fight scenes, chase scenes, explosions, etc. look more impressive with fluid motions than with stills. Both have their pros and cons, so I say read/watch both, if you have the time, and enjoy the experience biggrin

I have to stand by my belief that, in my experience, the original is usually better; be it the anime or the manga that came first. Then again, I think it's also commonplace to appreciate a series in the form that we saw it first. That's probably why a lot of people dislike live action unless they saw it before reading the manga or watching the anime, because the little differences (or big changes) tend to make us cringe.
Haha, I dunno, perhaps it all depends on how true the adaptation is to the original..?

as a rule of thumb i always assume the manga is better, which seems to be a pretty good rule considering its right nearly 90% of the time, but of course this thinking isnt for everyone, it only works for me b/c my "manga purist" side will get rage-tastic when the anime dare stray from the manga (dont EVER let me watch the FMA anime!) the only exceptions i can think of are FLCL and Samurai Champloo

You raise a good point. Some people will always prefer the manga because they simply prefer reading manga to watching anime. People like me, who spread themselves equally into both areas, tend to let their opinions differ.
One thing I will admit about manga however is that you can ALWAYS rely on it to go into more detail than anime, and even live-action. Anime often leaves us asking a lot of questions at the end, which the manga tends to answer very quickly.

I h av e s ee n w ha t l ur ks be yo nd th e d oo r o f d ea th .. .I really like the Hellsing anime better than the manga. When it comes to B't X, I'll take both. If a series is good enough, then most likely the anime and the manga are going to be smash hits depending on how both are produced. Sometimes one is worse than the other, whereas both are either good or bad. Really, it's all a matter of taste, per se. ...but I have not seen what lurks beyond the door of life.
