He nodded at that, "Sounds nice." Vash perked at the mention of a mechanic and then sort of deflated when told it was an automail mechanic. "What's automail? Can I see? I've worked with technology for a long time, maybe they're compatible..." He was murmuring to himself, recalling his knowledge of lost technology. Knive had been better at manipulating codes and mechanics but Vash had still shown a great deal of talent when he'd chosen to play with it. His goofy approach seemed a contradiction to his current serious curiosity.
Vash caught that glance and smiled, seeing no harm in revealing his own prosthetic to someone who shared a similar injury. "Left instead of right." He held up the left paw and, with this new information, it wasn't hard to guess that from the middle of his upper arm down, he didn't have a limb. "Need to keep it good repair but I haven't found anyone with anything resembling spare parts... or enough to rebuild it." He laughed self-consciously and ran a paw through his spiky hair.

"Yeah sure" was Ed's responce, not at all minding showing his automail to anyone. He was in the process of removing his coat and overshirt when he paused and looked more closely at Vash's left arm. Huh.. sure enough. Man.. he was feeling less original with each passing moment! They both had blonde hair.. red coats... and now prosthetic limbs! How much weirder could it get? Stripping down to his tanktop, Edward's arm was revealed in its entirety, his entire arm missing instead of 3/4s of it like Vash.
"You should still have her take a look. She'd be more than happy to." After all, he knew Winry really well. She liked to fiddle with anything mechanical.. including his watch. She might be able to figure it out, and hey... if it helped the guy, all the better.

Vash came in really close and poked at the arm, eyes travelling along the length of it, hypothesizing about how all the parts fit together... if it would be compatible with his own arm. "Hrm... fine worksmanship." He glanced up as Ed continued, grinning widely, "You think? That would be really nice." With a decisive nod, Vash stood back and flexed his left arm... eyeing it critically.
Briefly he wondered how Ed lost his arm... if it had been taken in a similar manner to his. But, he figured, if the other wanted to tell him then Ed would. If not, he wasn't going to pry - Vash knew everybody had their secrets. Grabbing a donut, he munched happily on it for a moment or two before swallowing and glancing over at Ed. "Would you mind introducing me to this Winry? Does she look after your arm?"

Edward couldn't suppress a grin at Vash's compliment of his arm, also nod holding back the prideful tone in his voice, "Yep! Its the best there is!" He was certainly not above praising Winry's fine workmanship. "Sure its no problem, I'm sure she's around here somewhere." Getting up, Edward grabbed one last donut and stuck it in his mouth before wandering over towards the door. Apparently he meant to go now. He wanted to see Winry anyway, and this would just give him another excuse.
As far as how he lost his arm.. well it wasn't exactly a subject that he liked to talk about much. So it was probably best if the questions waited for another time.

Somewhere in the many rooms of the HQ, a one Winry Rockbell was busy with a worktable, bench, and several metallic objects. Occasionally, the female's head would turn to peer out the window, which overlooked some hills and forest surrounding the building. It was a nice day outside, perfect for a walk...maybe she'd go visi-No, nope, work to do first!
In the months Winry had been in this world, she'd made few friends, unwilling to really talk to anyone. She was simply home-sick, and wanted to leave this place, but...well, there was no way to do that right now. So in her spare time, and to keep her mind off things, the kitsu had taken to collecting little spare parts of machinery; scraps of iron, copper wire, anything that she could fiddle around with. Then, she had made herself a project of completing the one other object, besides a few tools, that she'd brought from home. Luckily, the hand hadn't been done, so she really just needed to make it a paw, of sorts.
Speaking of paws, well...it had been tough to figure out how to use her tools with paws. But she was managing along, with a groan and many growlings over what had gone wrong and how much time it would take to fix.
"...Uuuugh, I'm never going to get this done!" she bemoaned to no one in particular. "Arrrgh!"
Maybe it was time for a break. Padding over to her window, she took another look outside, then turned tail and scampered to the room's door. A nice walk and some fresh air, that's all she needed.

Vash blinked as Edward suddenly started moving. With a mock frown he eyed the donuts for a moment before simply picking up the entire tray and trotting out after Ed. "Thanksh!" It was hard to talk around the tray but he managed the word well enough to be understandable. He hoped Ed knew where he was going because had not a clue - he'd never heard of a Winry before.
Pausing when they passed through a doorway, he set the donuts down long enough to raise a question, "What does she look like?" A glance down the branching hallways was enough to reveal no kitsus were immediately present.

Edward looked back at Vash at his question, "Well he's got long blonde hair and tails, blue eyes.. grey and white wings and usually carries a wrench around with her." He grinned at that thought, having always found it funny that she insisted on carrying that wrench around with her everywhere.
Moving into the hallways, a few question marks seemed to appear above his head as he glanced around, not entirely sure where to look. When it doubt.. simply yell.. "WINRY!" he called making his way downt he hall, "Hey Winry! You around here?!"

The blond, blue-eyed kitsu in question was trotting slowly down the hallways, intending to take her time to a door leading outside, half-hoping to run into someone she knew. Maybe Alphonse...or Edward, maybe, if he ever was around HQ anymore.
Glancing up, she saw two kitsu a ways down the hallway from her. She blinked a few times, raised a paw to her eyes and rubbed, then looked again. Red coats, blond hair...the one following had spiky hair, and looked taller. The kitsu leading, then..could it be?
Picking up her pace, Winry dashed down the hallway, noting a distinctive *clunk* in his footsteps as he walked...."EDWARD!"
And what was her greeting as she ran up? Well, she probably would have hugged him, but on a whim, Winry whipped out her never-to-be-seen-without wrench, and snapped it upon Edward's head. She didn't mean to hurt, but, well...
"Where have you been?" the kitsu demanded, rather ignoring the stranger at the moment, and staring at the elder Elric brother with a livid look on her face.

Vash nodded at that and picked the donuts back up, turning to look as he caught movement out of the corner of his eye. "Is that..." He didn't even really get much of a response out before the other kitsu was yelling back and smacking Ed with the wrench. Vash winced in sympathy and tucked away a mental note not to call for this person - that looked like it had rather hurt.
He smiled broadly and put the donuts down once more, sparing a thought about attaching a string to the box so it really could be a yo-yo. "Hello! I'm guessing you're Ms. Winry." There was a fainly sad look on his face as he listened to her greeting Ed. She reminded him much of the insurance girls, who, despite their tendency to follow him everywhere were welcome company.

Hearing a familiar voice shout his name, Edward turns around just in time to get clocked by Winry's wrench. "GAH!" There's a small spurt of blood just before Edward falls backward from the impact, clutching his head with his left paw. Ow ow ow.. that had really.. REALLY... hurt. He had almost forgotten how strong and vicious Winry could be with that damn thing!
However, he recovered in a few moments and lept to his feet looking about as livid as she was, "WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT FOR?!" he shrieked. A sizeable welt now forming on Edward's forehead. That.. was going to leave a mark for awhile!

Winry hadn't forgotten about Edward's temper, but it looked like he'd forgotten about her own, among other things. A number of things flashed through her brain to reply with, 'jerk' and 'thoughtless' among them, but she instead gave a "Hmph!" before turning her head away, eyes slightly narrowed with a sour expression on her face. Looking towards the other guy in red, she became aware that he had said something to her.
"Oh, um..." Ms. Winry? Huh...Ed must have told the tall kitsu her name. Now a little embarrassed at her behavior not two minutes before, she said politely, with a friendly smile back, "Yes, I'm Winry Rockbell, automail mechanic at your service! It's nice to meet you, Mr....?"
She should probably take Edward somewhere to get that bump looked at soon.

Vash was taken aback by their... uh, 'friendly'(?) greeting. Moving forward, he positioned himself mostly between them and smiled, "Calm down... No need for violence...." These people are crazy.... the thought drifted through his mind as he waved his paw at them both, trying to placate the hot tempers. It made him wonder if they were related.
Thankfully though, Winry didn't leap into the argument as he'd expected and he relaxed. Vash hated seeing people fight and getting hurt, nothing good ever came of it. "Vash. Call me Vash." He winked and offered a brilliant smile. "Edward said you worked with mechanics, yes~ I was just wondering how much you knew about the technology. I'm actually looking for a mechanic myself." He didn't indicate his forelimb, however, leaving it up to Winry to spot the difference. If she were as good as Ed claimed (which he didn't truly doubt but he had to be sure) then it wouldn't be too hard to recognize his prosthetic. Most people had no idea but someone who worked with the things would probably have a good eye for them.

Edward just blinked and stared as Winry turned away with a 'hmph' and ignored him. "A uh.. buh.." DX Hey now! He asked her a question! That's when Vash got between them and Ed just grumped a bit. One corner of his mouth turning downward and an eye closing as he rubbed at his forehead miserably.
So he just sat there and sulked as Winry and Vash exchanged words. Yeah... don't mind the alchemist in PAIN over here!

At the mention of technology and the question of how much she knew about it, Winry perked up and momentarily forgot about the grumbling Edward. Spreading a grin upon her face, she seemed to puff up a bit, wings fluffing, as she held up her wrench with a paw. Had she had the ability to, she might have flexed with it as she said, "I'm one of the best around, when it comes to fixing automail!"
Hm...well, she had been trained by some of the great mechanics back in Amestris. Lowering her paw, Winry glanced up at the ceiling for a moment, head tilting to one side as she deflated a bit in thought. She wasn't sure if there was anyone else to compare to here, but she supposed she could start with this Vash - he did mention technology, after all! Mmm...possibly getting to work with machines from this world was making her excited again!
Her gave inadvertently stopped on Vash's left paw as she continued to think. Hm...he needed a mechanic, eh? Well, Ed would have told him how good Winry was, of course. Who else serviced the alchemist's automail?
"If you need work done, Vash," she said with a smile and a slight lean towards his arm, as if being pulled in by some magnetic force, "I'd be happy to help. But maybe after," she continued, now leaning to look and grin somewhat apologetically at Edward, "I get him an ice-pack."

"Ed mentioned automail but I don't know what that is... Are you good at adapting your practices to other technologies?" He grinned and held up the paw, "And rebuilding prosthetics?"
He glanced at Ed and blinked at the noticeable bump. Owww. She'd clunked him hard! "Don't waste water! Use a slab of meat - it works just as well until you can get to a doctor." He spoke without thought, forgetting this world had no shortage of the precious liquid.
