I think the "The Shadow of the Day" would apply to the (spoiler in white) Wizarding World once the war took place. I think the video is kind of like what you would see if you went out into the real world. It also applies to Harry, in several ways. (End Spoiler) On second thought, I actually think this song would refer to Harry if he left instead of fighitng for everyone. Ever since he was eleven he was an eleven year old going on one hundred. You know? Everybody's telling him that he has defeat this dark lord, and that he's the only one, and he might die because of it. Well, if I were him, in all honesty, I wouldn't have had the curage to stay, I would have run away from them. Warning: Those sensitive to violence should not watch the video. Video If you just want to listen to the song and not watch the video here is a better link: No Violence VideoLyrics: I close both locks below the window. I close both blinds and turn away. Sometimes solutions aren’t so simple. Sometimes goodbye’s the only way, oh. And the sun will set for you The sun will set for you. And the shadow of the day, Will embrace the world in gray, And the sun will set for you... In cards and flowers on your window, Your friends all plead for you to stay. Sometimes beginnings aren’t so simple. Sometimes goodbye’s the only way, oh. And the sun will set for you, The sun will set for you. And the shadow of the day, Will embrace the world in gray, And the sun will set for you. And the shadow of the day, Will embrace the world in gray, And the sun will set for you. And the shadow of the day, Will embrace the world in gray, And the sun will set for you.

I found an awesome video of Remus and Tonks and I liked it so much I put it on my profile. It really speaks to me of their love, especially when you see it with the artwork on the video. I can just see Tonks rushing off to be with Remus in their last fight, and the video made me cry.
I will always Be There sung by Bryan Adams
I swear to you - I will always be there for you - there's nothin' I won't do I promise you - all my life I will live for you - wewill make it through Forever - we will be Together - you and me Umm, when I hold you - nothin' can compare With all of my heart - you know I'll always be - right there I believe in us - nothing else could ever mean so much You're the one I trust
Our time has come - we're not two people Now - we are one - yeah you're second to none Forever - we will be Together - a family
The more I get to know ya - for nothing can compare With all of my heart - ya know I'll always be Right there
Forever - we will be Together - just you and me The more I get to know you - the more I really care With all of my heart - you know I'll always be... Ya know I really love you - nothin' can compare For all of my life - you know I'll always be - right there

OMG! I've got just the song! Rembrandts - I'll be There for YouYes. The theme song for F.R.I.E.N.D.S. And it looks like I'm not the only one who thinks this is a good match. CLICK for a Harry Potter-related music video featuring this song! I think it's self-explainitory why I think this song works! Here are the lyrics: So no one told you life was gonna be this way Your jobs a joke, you're broke, your love life's D.O.A. It's like you're always stuck in second gear And it hasn't been your day, your week, your month, or even your year but.. I'll be there for you When the rain starts to pour I'll be there for you Like I've been there before I'll be there for you 'Cuz you're there for me too... You're still in bed at ten And work began at eight You've burned your breakfast So far... things are goin' great Your mother warned you there'd be days like these Oh but she didn't tell you when the world has brought You down to your knees that... I'll be there for you When the rain starts to pour I'll be there for you Like I've been there before I'll be there for you 'Cuz you're there for me too... No one could ever know me No one could ever see me Seems you're the only one who knows What it's like to be me Someone to face the day with Make it through all the rest with Someone I'll always laugh with Even at my worst I'm best with you, yeah It's like you're always stuck in second gear And it hasn't been your day, your week, your month, or even your year... I'll be there for you When the rain starts to pour I'll be there for you Like I've been there before I'll be there for you 'Cuz you're there for me too... I'll be there for you I'll be there for you I'll be there for you 'Cuz you're there for me too...

Tric, this topic is AWESOME!!! Yuudai, that was an excellent song choice for Remus!
"Defying Gravity" from the play Wicked for Tom Riddle Jr. in the memory in book 6 when he says something to Dumbledore to the affect of, "I have pushed the boundries of magic further than any other wizard has before!"
Something has changed within me Something is not the same I'm through with playing by The rules of someone else's game Too late for second-guessing Too late to go back to sleep It's time to trust my instincts Close my eyes And leap It's time to try defying gravity I think I'll try defying gravity And you can't pull me down.
I'm through accepting limits Cuz someone says they're so Some things I cannot change But till I try I'll never know Too long I've been afraid of Losing love I guess I've lost Well if that's love It comes at much too high a cost I'd sooner buy defying gravity Kiss me goodbye, I'm defying gravity And you can't pull me down!
As someone told me lately Everyone deserves the chance to fly And if I'm flying solo At least I'm flying free To those who ground me Take a message back from me! Tell them how I am defying gravity I'm flying high, defying gravity And soon I'll match them in renown... No Wizard that there is or was Is ever gonna bring me down!
I certainly plan on posing more songs here later!

Thank you, Minerva! surprised Just recently I found another song that I thought suited my favorite character and his situation. (Spoiler in white) I immediately thought that this song told you about Snape and his need for redemption for accidentally sending his love, Lily, straight to her death. There are also parts that suits things that he was forced to do in his life. For example, the line '...or kill on demand' made me think how he ended up killing Dumbledore on his request.
The child without a name grew up to be the hand To watch you, to shield you, or kill on demand The choice he'd made he could not comprehend His blood a grim secret they had to commend
He's torn between his honor and the true love of his life He prayed for both but was denied
So many dreams were broken and so much was sacrificed Was it worth the ones we loved and had to leave behind So many years have past, toward a noble land of lies Will all our sins be justified?
The curse of his powers tormented his life Obeying the crowd was a sinister price His soul was tortured by love and by pain He surely would flee, but the oath made him stay
He's torn between his honor and the true love of his life He prayed for both but was denied
So many dreams were broken and so much was sacrificed Was it worth the ones we loved and had to leave behind So many years have past, toward a noble land of lies Will all our sins be justified?
Please forgive me for the sorrow For leaving you in fear For the dreams we had to silence That's all they'll ever be Still I'll be the hand that saves you Though you'll not see that it is me
So many dreams were broken and so much was sacrificed Was it worth the ones we loved and had to leave behind So many years have past, toward a noble land of lies Will all our sins be justified?
The song is called 'Hands of Sorrow', and the band Within Temptation.

I've got another. I think if Harry were to look back at the war, he'd probably think something along the lines of these lyrics. Artist: Linkin Park Song Title: The Little Things Give You Away Water gray, through the windows, up the stairs Chilling rain, like an ocean everywhere "Don't want to reach for me, do you? I mean nothing to you, the little things give you away And now there will be no mistaking The levees are breaking" All you've ever wanted Was someone to truly look up to you And six feet under water, I do Hope decays Generations disappear Washed away, As a nation simply stares "Don't want to reach for me, do you? I mean nothing to you, the little things give you away And now there will be no mistaking The levees are breaking" All you've ever wanted Was someone to truly look up to you And six feet under water, I do All you've ever wanted Was someone to truly look up to you And six feet underground Now I do... Oh, oh... "The little things give you away, the little things give you away" (All you've ever wanted was someone to truly look up to you) Video: Here---------------- Also, No More Sorrow by the same band as listed before matches HP. I think this is how Harry is thinking of Dumbledore after he finds out the truth. Are you lost, In your lies Do you tell yourself, I don’t realize Your campaign’s a disguise. Replaced freedom with fear, You trade money for lives. I’m aware of what you’ve done. No, No More Sorrow. I’ve paid for your mistakes. Your time is borrowed. Your time has come to be replaced. I see pain, I see need. I see liars and thieves, Abuse power with greed. I had hope, I believed. Now I’m beginning to think that I’ve been deceived. You will pay for what you’ve done. No, No More Sorrow. I’ve paid for your mistakes. Your time is borrowed. Your time has come to be replaced. Thieves and hypocrites Thieves and hypocrites Thieves and hypocrites No, No More Sorrow. I’ve paid for your mistakes. Your time is borrowed. Your time has come to be replaced. No More Sorrow. I’ve paid for your mistakes. Your time is borrowed. Your time has come to be replaced. Your time has come to be replaced. Your time has come to be erased. ------------------------------------

Okay, I have two.
The first one is "Ash", by Murder By Death. I think of it as relating to Snape and his time in the Death Eaters, after he became a spy for the Order.
We set out at dusk We left them, well, not much The boys were shoutin' and kickin' up dust Oh and as we ran With the fire behind us And the torch in my hand I knew I couldn't do it again
The ghosts were howlin' in the late afternoon We were singin' along to the same old tune I turned to my brothers to look 'em in the eyes And there was ash....ash falling from the sky
The moon cast a little light but the flames lit up the night All the animals laid down and died and there was ash..... Oh and as we ran with the fire behind us and the torch in my hand I knew I couldn't do it again
The ghosts were howlin' in the late afternoon And we were singin' along to the same old tune I turned to my brothers to look 'em in the eyes and there was ash....fallin' from the sky
And who could tell the dogs from the men? I seen their faces and I know where they've been I know I'm with 'em but I ain't like them! I--
And who could tell the dogs from the men? I seen their faces and I know where they've been I know I'm with 'em but I ain't like them! I--
It makes me so tired I was like smoke without the fire And I know I ain't like them, no!
And there was ash.
----
The second is from the musical Ragtime, called "Make Them Hear You", which I think of as kind of the theme song for the Order, and more specifically from Dumbledore to Harry.
go out and tell the story. let it echo far and wide. make them hear you. make them hear you.
how that justice was our battle and how justice was denied. make them hear you. make them hear you.
and say to those who blame us for the way we chose to fight that sometimes there are battles which are more than black or white.
and i could not put down my sword when justice was my right. make them hear you. make them hear you.
my path may lead to heaven or hell and god will say what's best but one thing he will never say is that i went quietly to my rest.
go out and tell our story to your daughters and your sons. make them hear you. make them hear you.
proclaim it from your pulpit. in your classroom with your pen teach every child to raise his voice and then, my brothers, then
will justice be demanded by ten million righteous men. make them hear you. when they hear you i'll be near you again.

Wow, this is a great thread! I've actually been playing this game on long car journeys since I was quite little- I'd try to connect a song playing on the radio with one of my favourite books, and naturally 99% of the time I'd use Harry Potter characters and situations!
So I put my mp3 player on shuffle to see what I could come up with. For one thing, Wonderboy by the Kinks reminds me of the golden days of the Marauders and of Harry's first days at Hogwarts.
La-la-la-la... Wonder boy, life's just begun. Turn your sorrow into wonder Dream alone, don't sigh, don't groan Life is only what you wonder. Day is as light as your brightest dreams, Night is as dark as you feel it ought to be. Time is as fast as the slowest thing, Life is only...
Wonder boy, Wonder boy. Everybody is looking for the sun. People strain their eyes to see, But I see you and you see me, And aint that wonder?
Wonder boy, some mother's son, Life is full of work and plunder. Easy go, life is not real, Life is only what you conjure.
Wonder boy, And the world is joy, every single day. Its the real mccoy, Wonder boy. Everybody is looking for the sun. People strain their eyes to see, But I see you and you see me, And aint that wonder?
Wonder boy, some mother's son, Turn your sorrow into wonder Dream alone, go have your fun. Life is only... Life is only... Life is only...
So I'm going to analyse this a bit and try and explain why on earth I think it's about James and Harry's separate experiences at Hogwarts. For one thing, it has a cockiness and a carefree element to it which I think is pure James- 'Day is as light as your brightest dreams' and so on. 'But I see you and you see me/And ain't that wonder?' reminds me of James' attempts to win Lily over. It sounds to me like a line he'd use on her, but also very slightly suggests that james has real feelings for Lily underneath all the teenage boy bravado and showing off that we see in Snape's Worst Memory. By the last verse the song seems to be about Harry discovering all the wonders of Hogwarts and becoming his own person away from the cruelty of the Dursleys-"Turn your sorrow into wonder". So how do the two stories interlink in one song? Harry feels connected to the father he never knew by going to the same school, being in the same House, feeling the same intense happiness and sense of wonder.

I cant believe I'm posting a Lord of the Rings song. -_-; Anyway, this is 'Into the West' by Annie Lennox, featured in the Lord of the Rings: Return of the King. I have many reasons for choosing this song, as I feel it related greatly to the entire Harry Potter sequence.
Lay down, your sweet and weary head. Night is falling. You have come to journey’s end.
Sleep now, and dream of the ones who came before. They are calling, from across a distant shore.
Why do you weep? What are these tears upon your face? Soon you will see. All of your fears will pass away. Safe in my arms, you’re only sleeping.
What can you see, on the horizon? Why do the white gulls call? Across the sea, a pale moon rises. The ships have come, to carry you home.
And all will turn, to silver glass. A light on the water. All souls pass.
Hope fades, Into the world of night. Through shadows falling, Out of memory and time.
Don’t say, We have come now to the end. White shores are calling. You and I will meet again. And you’ll be here in my arms, Just sleeping.
What can you see, on the horizon? Why do the white gulls call? Across the sea, a pale moon rises. The ships have come, to carry you home.
And all will turn, to silver glass. A light on the water. Grey ships pass Into the West.
First of all, when the magical world finally saw to the end of Voldemort's rule, there was very much mourning for loved ones, even when there was also the happiness and freedom at journey's end. The people who died would live forever in the memories of those who suffered. Also, as the aftermath of the final battle settled, I believe people began to think of their futures a little more and what shores and new horizons lay ahead of them. This song also depicts that, even in times of darkness, there is a light on the water; a light that will lead you home.

No! That's lovely! I also think "Shadow Of the Day" is perfect.
I think the song "Leave Out All The Rest" by Linkin Park describes how some of the wizards like Dumbledore, Snape, or Harry would like to be remembered. [Mostly Snape though, now that I think about it.]
"Leave Out All The Rest" by Linkin Park
I dreamed I was missing You were so scared But no one would listen Cause no one else cared
After my dreaming I woke with this fear What am I leaving When I'm done here
So if you're asking me I want you to know
[Chorus] When my time comes Forget the wrong that I've done Help me leave behind some Reasons to be missed
And don't resent me And when you're feeling empty Keep me in your memory
Leave out all the rest Leave out all the rest [End Chorus]
Don't be afraid I've taken my beating I've shared what I made
I'm strong on the surface Not all the way through I've never been perfect But neither have you
So if you're asking me I want you to know
[Chorus] When my time comes Forget the wrong that I've done Help me leave behind some Reasons to be missed
Don't resent me And when you're feeling empty Keep me in your memory
Leave out all the rest Leave out all the rest [End Chorus]
Forgetting All the hurt inside You've learned to hide so well
Pretending Someone else can come and save me from myself I can't be who you are
[Chorus] When my time comes Forget the wrong that I've done Help me leave behind some Reasons to be missed
Don't resent me And when you're feeling empty Keep me in your memory
Leave out all the rest Leave out all the rest
Forgetting All the hurt inside You've learned to hide so well
Pretending Someone else can come and save me from myself I can't be who you are I can't be who you are

Our Farewell by Within Temptations is an excellent song about James and Lily's deaths in my opinion. It shows how it effected Harry. Well, he doesn't remember them alive but you get the point.
In my hands A legacy of memories I can hear you say my name I can almost see your smile Feel the warmth of your embrace But there is nothing but silence now Around the one I loved Is this our farewell?
Sweet darling you worry too much, my child See the sadness in your eyes You are not alone in life Although you might think that you are
Never thought This day would come so soon We had no time to say goodbye How can the world just carry on? I feel so lost when you are not at my side But there is nothing but silence now Around the one I loved Is this our farewell?
Sweet darling you worry too much, my child See the sadness in your eyes You are not alone in life Although you might think that you are
So sorry your world is tumbling down I'll watch you through these nights Rest your head and go to sleep Because my child, this is not our farewell. This is not our farewell.
________________ Also, Whatever it Takes by Lifehouse is a song I think is a very James/ Lily one. James makes a mistake and begs for Lily's trust again.
A strangled smile fell from your face It kills me that I hurt you this way The worst part is that I didn't even know Now there's a million reasons for you to go But if you can find a reason to stay
I'll do whatever it takes To turn this around I know what's at stake I know that I've let you down And if you give me a chance Believe that I can change I'll keep us together whatever it takes
She said "If we're gonna make this work You gotta let me inside even though it hurts Don't hide the broken parts that I need to see" She said "Like it or not it's the way it's gotta be You gotta love yourself if you can ever love me"
I'll do whatever it takes To turn this around I know what's at stake I know that I've let you down And if you give me a chance And give me a break I'll keep us together, I know you deserve much better
But remember the time I told you the way that I felt That I'd be lost without you and never find myself Let's hold onto each other above everything else Start over, start over
I'll do whatever it takes To turn this around I know what's at stake I know I've let you down And if you give me a chance and believe that I can change I'll keep us together whatever it takes
___________
Those are two songs I adore!

Clouds by The Morning Light.
I think this song is very symbolic of Harry in his changing and in his realization of all the pressure he has on him. And how he may feel with his budding romances with Ginny and Cho and how they lead to even more confusion and hurt. I also feel "Turn your back cause you'll never understand," really suites Harry's feelings towards endangering his friends.
Lyrics to Clouds : Oh my God This town, it feels like a headache And all the words inside my mouth won't come through. I've got this pain in my head that I can't shake When I remind myself I can't get to you.
And it rained all day And I figured it out I'm not the person that I used to be Washed away Please someone make me okay Because I'm feeling like I might...
Take today and make my way Through the town, the streets, the pouring rain 'Cause some days, It seems like the clouds won't stay away.
I watched you change with the seasons I wrote you letters but I forgot to mention that I'm a wreck, I'm a mess, you're a stranger. Watch your face fade away Now I'm stuck here
Take today and make my way Through the town, the streets, the pouring rain 'Cause some days, It seems like the clouds won't stay away.
She said, "Turn your back cause you'll never understand." I can't get through I can't get through to you But the silence and the shaking of your hands Says differently to me
You watched me wait on the steps of your house I stood outside, you refused to come out And honestly, this is making me sick.
All this time I tried to hide The truth inside But this is making me sick. This is making me sick.
Take today and make my way Through the town, the streets, the pouring rain 'Cause some days, It seems like the clouds won't stay away.
She said, "Turn your back cause you'll never understand." I can't get through I can't get through to you But the silence and the shaking of your hands Says differently to me
Take today and make my way Through the town, the streets, the pouring rain 'Cause some days, It seems like the clouds won't stay away.
Stay away
Some days, it seems like the clouds won't stay away
