I always change 'em.
Cloud: Luke, or Nite (after my boyfriend and an RPG character of his)
Tifa: Raynala <3
Aerith: Fiona (eh, she just looks like a Fiona to me)
Barret: Bullet (just to keep things right)
Red XIII: Sabyr (I liked it. razz )
Yuffie: Calyco (after an RPG character of mine; I've only grabbed her once, though. I really don't care for her.)
Vincent: Kitarak (also after a character of my boyfriend)
Cait Sith: Joop (after a friend. XP)
Cid: Bubba (he just looks like a "Bubba." razz )

I keep the default names for the first time I play a game because it's their orginal name^^Then change it to by whatever the mood I'm in when I play through the whole game again.

I name my characters after people that I know, or names that I think suit them, depending on what they look like.

Barret=Steve (would name him Mog (another friend of mine, nicknamed Mog))
Tifa=Vee (my girlfriend)
Aeris=Dakota (my ex)
Red XIII=Nanaki
Yuffie=Star (my ex's sister)
Cid=Drew (another friend of mine)
Vincent=JJ (friend who got Vincent for me my very first time)
Cait Sith=Brandon (a friend who used to like Cait Sith, and I have no more room for him anywhere else)

Cloud-Ulisses(my younger brother)
Barret-Julius(me)
Tifa-Changes but usually Cindy
Aries-Sandy(a friend of mine)
Red XIII-Lucky(after my dog)
Yuffie-Jackie(my cousin)
Cait Sith-Travis(my friend)
Vincent-Isaiah(my other younger brother)
Cid-Sean(my other friend)

The most previous time I played I named them after the gaia admins.
Cloud: Lanzer
Barret: Gambino*
Tifa: Ling
Aeris:Jakobo
Red 13: VO
Cid: LOcke
Yuffie: I left it alone**
Caitsith:I left it alone**
*Technicly he is a admin because in the posts his name is in gold, same as all the other admins.
**I could not think of any more admins.

smile I like to keep the default names the first couple of times I play any game, and Final Fantasy 7 was no exception. But the third time I played it, my friend Cat was with me so we named the characters the worse names ever...(very lame.) xp But it was funny to see people talk to each other in the game using our names...helped to keep the game fresh and interesting.

i used to always name the main character in games, in this case, cloud, my initials.. but now i just use default.. makes it easier when im talking to freinds about it..

One time, I was playing a random new game to show my friend something, and I named Cloud Moron.
This is very intresting, because everytime someone would call his name it was;
HEY, MORON!!
