Isiah didn't quite understand why his question was silly. Was there something wrong with wanting to know why some water tasted salty and some didn't? "I don't think it's a silly question." he pouted, brows knitting together. He was about to distance himself from the stream when the soft ground beneath his front legs gave way and he lost his balance.
Letting out a cry of surprise, he fell forward right into the stream. "Ack!" he sputtered, splashing about as he struggled to get upright.

"Well of course it isn't a silly question, but most adults would think it is silly. But I bet that is because even they don't know the answer." She said in a matter of fact sort of way, right before he fell into the water.
"Are you alright?" She said rather loudly, to be heard over his splashing, before jumping down into the water beside him, her hooves sinking into the bottom of the stream.

Isiah realized he didn't like water when it reached higher than his hooves. The stream wasn't really all that deep but the earth beneath was soft and his front legs were heavy and sank in deeper as he thrashed about.
"No! I'm not!" he wailed, trying to yank his front hooves up to little avail. "I think I'm stuck!" His ears flicked nervously as he shook himself trying to get free.

Uni glanced at him, then down at his hooves, before looking back up at him. "Certainly looks that way, but it can't be quicksand, so it can't be that dangerous. I mean I don't think you can drown in this little stream." She said as she pulled out one of her hooves with a sucking pop as it pulled free.
"Just try it one hoof at a time, that seems to work." She said as she pulled her other hoof free, but they kept sinking back, only because she wasn't really going anywhere while he was stuck there.

Isiah's brows knitted together in dismay as he fought to regain his composure and calm down. Uni was right, he wasn't going to drown in such shallow waters. It's not as if the water reached his nostrils or anything.
Deep breaths were taken and slowly he mimics the horned filly's motions. Each time he pulled himself free, he takes a step back and finally he's back on dry ground.
Well, relatively dry.
Relieved he turns to Uni with a bright grin, "Thanks!"

Uni followed him as he made his way out, taking the final few feet in a single bound as she pulled her front feet out, but her back feet didn't come free right away. So she ended up stretched half in the water, half out, before less than gracefully climbing onto the bank. "You're welcome." She said with a grin, before stamping the mud off her hooves. She wondered where they would go next, if anywhere, hopefully somewhere away from water.

For some colts, this would have been an opportune moment to go back home. Isiah was not one such colt, rather than being discouraged by what just happened he became even more eager to explore.
"Have you ever been to the mountains?" he asks Uni, crimson eyes staring off into the distance. It seemed like a long treck to take on such short notice but they could always stop halfway there and pick up where they left off some other time.

"No I've never been. But I'd like to try and climb them one day, if I can. Though I don't know if my legs are long enough, it seems so high." She said, pink eyes darting between the mountains on the horizon, then back to Isiah.
"I suppose it wouldn't hurt to try." She added. But refrained from adding 'hopefully', because it certainly would hurt falling down the mountain.

Isiah's ears flicked in thought before brightening, "They do look awfully high. But!" he flashes Uni a cheerful grin, "When our legs get longer and we get stronger and I learn how not to get stuck in water, maybe we could go and try to climb one?" he asked her hopefully, tail swishing in youthful anticipation.
