Kaewyn was not going to be a trainer, but she would still have to battle other coordinators during a contest. It was not something she was prepared for yet and her skills in battle were green, but she had to help her friends somehow. A trio of Fearow was about to dive-bomb Growlithe when Kaewyn yelled, “Roar!” Growlithe obeyed and sent his booming voice towards the oncoming attackers. The Fearow stopped in mid-plunge and flew away in fear.
Seeing the three bigger birds leave, the Spearow soon felt uneasy about the battle. With these three pesky humans and their “pet” Pokemon, plus all of the Pidgey and Pidgeotto, the battle was turning in a different direction. The Pidgey and Pidgeotto, seeing the hesitation in their opponent’s, went full out. Gusts threw Spearow around in the air. Aerial Ace could be seen throughout the sky. Victory was near at hand for the peaceful bird Pokemon.

The Pidgey and Pidgeotto were winning now, and Roxi was excited. The Pidgey that landed in front of Roxi was conscious again, and was rather surprised that they were winning. The Pidgey jumped up and used sand attack at the remaining Spearow. The aggressive Pokemon were enveloped in a thick cloud of dust. The Pidgey and Pidgeotto flew in and attacked the blinded Spearow, who quickly turned around and retreated with the Pidgey and Pidgeotto close behind.
The Pidgey at Roxi’s feet was jumping for joy and started flying around Roxi’s head. Eevee walked up and said “Eevee,” proudly. The Pidgey noticed Roxi’s pokeball belt and started pecking at one of the pokeballs. “Hey, I think Pidgey is curious about your belt.” Ronyo said walking up with his Houndour. Roxi looked at the curious little Pokemon and smiled. “Would you like to come with me as my Pokemon?” Pidgey was fluttering gleefully around the trio of humans. Roxi tapped the Pidgey on the head and the little bird was engulfed in the red light. The pokeball twitched, once, twice, three times, and Pidgey was caught. "Yes! Pidgey come on out!” Roxi threw the pokeball and the happy Pidgey chirped and sang. Both Roxi and Pidgey were excited about what was to come.

Ronyo looked at Roxi who was jumping up and down with her new pokemon. Ronyo smiled as did Kaewyn at the girl’s first wild pokemon capture. “Nice catch Roxi. Ok we need to get moving, the sun is starting to set and we will need a place to camp for the night,” Ronyo said as he began walking again. The two girls followed him and Roxi skipped along while her Pidgey circled around her. Not long after they had started Ronyo spotted a nice clearing off the main road. Ronyo, Houndour, Kaewyn, and Growlithe began clearing the area of leaves and rocks, while Roxi took her Pidgey an Eevee to look for wood. About the time the area was cleared away Roxi came back with a nice sized bundle of wood. Eevee carried a few medium sized pieces and Roxi’s Pidgey was proudly flying back with a single twig she had managed to find. Ronyo fixed the wood together so it would stay burning through most of the night and Houndour started the fire. Growlithe and Houndour relaxed themselves near the open flame and soaked in the comforting heat. Roxi watched as her Pidgey flew in circles while Eevee tried to catch her. The trio made sandwiches for dinner and then relaxed as the stars began to appear. “When we hit Jubilife we should stock up on cooking tools and food, for us an for our pokemon,” Ronyo said as he gazed at the stars. “How much longer will it take to reach Jubilife?” Kaewyn asked as she too stared at the small specs of light “By about late in the afternoon tomorrow we should reach Jubilife. Once were there we can stay at the Pokecenter while we decide were to go next.” ******** The next morning Ronyo an Roxi awoke to a scream coming from Kaewyn. Ronyo jumped up, as did Houndour only to see Kaewyn screaming at three little Spinarak who had swung down from one of the trees nearby. Ronyo grinned and nodded at Houndour who jogged over to the spider pokemon and got them to go away. “Do you not like bug pokemon or something?” Roxi asked as she looked at Kaewyn “No, its just spider and snake type pokemon.” “Spinarak are pretty much harmless, its there evolved form Ariados, that you have to be careful of,” Ronyo said as he began packing his stuff up. The group packed there gear up and began to head off for Jubilife City.

The day was once again sunny and warm, like yesterday. Everyone had slept well, even if the morning was plagued with spiders. Kaewyn shuddered at the thought of the little creatures.
Growlithe let out a small bark that got Kaewyn’s attention. He was looking into a small field of grass off the road. The group stopped and looked over toward the field, but saw nothing. Then Houndour also barked. The three humans looked hard in the grass.
Suddenly Kaewyn saw something in the grass. “What is that?” she asked as she took out her Pokedex and opened it. The familiar female voice came on and said “Ralts, the psychic Pokemon. It uses the horns on its head to sense human emotions. It is said to appear in front of cheerful people.” Kaewyn watched the cute little Pokemon rustle around in the grass and she knew that she just had to have it.
“Alright, that Pokemon is all mine!” she said with stars in her eyes. “Growlithe, bite,” she commanded. Growlithe dashed out into the grass, but before he could even get close, the Ralts disappeared. Growlithe stopped in his tracks, eyes wide and very confused. “What happened?” said Kaewyn.
“Ralts uses teleport to escape those who attack it,” replied her Pokedex. Kaewyn had almost forgotten she was still holding it open. She closed her Pokedex and put it back in her bag. “How will I catch it if it will only run away?” Kaewyn asked. Roxi was the first to answer. “Well, what we could do is set an elaborate trap. I will be the bait acting extremely cheerful, so Ralts will appear. Then we will have a net above me in the trees. When Ralts appears, attracted by my beaming personality, you throw the net and capture it!” Roxi’s eyes were gleaming with her brilliant idea.
“But wouldn’t Ralts just teleport out of the net after that?” Roxi fell over with the realization that her plan was flawed. Ronyo tried to suppress his laughter and stepped forward with another idea. “You will just have to throw your pokeball at it and hope it doesn’t escape.” Kaewyn smiled at this idea. “That was my next plan,” Roxi piped in, full of energy again.
“Okay, sounds good, we just need to find it again,” Kaewyn said with resolve. “We all need to cheerful. Growlithe, Houndour, Eevee, when Ralts appears, signal us with a discreet bark, ok?” All three gave out a trial bark. “Very good. Now the rest of us… be happy!”

The trio had only been waiting for about five minutes and Roxi was already bored. Where is that Ralts? She could barely stand it when Eevee nudged her. The little fuzz ball was pointing into the grass with her nose. Roxi was excited all over again. Finally!

Ronyo saw Roxi’s Eevee point into the grass and gave Houndour the command. Houndour made a small bark which alerted Kaewyn. Kaewyn raced over with pokeball in hand but the little Ralts teleported away.
“There it is! Eevee go.” Roxi yelled and pointed towards the Ralts who had just appeared.
“I see him, Houndour you go too.” Ronyo pointed
Houndour and Eevee streaked in to try and catch the Ralts off guard. At the last second the psychic pokemon teleported away leaving Eevee and Houndour to collide into each other. The two pokemon just laid there dazed while Ronyo and Roxi ran to check on them.
“You ok there champ?” Ronyo asked standing near his dizzy Houndour.
“Hou…ou…ou…nd”
“Eevee are you ok?” Roxi said picking up her pokemon who was seeing Staryus.
“Eeevah…ah ah”
“That Ralts is quick. Hope you catch him Kaewyn, because I think I’d rather have it as a friend than an enemy.” Ronyo said with a laugh as he dusted off Houndour, who was starting to come around again.

Growlithe barked and ran into a field. Kaewyn looked ahead of him and saw the mischievous Ralts in a thick clump of grass, but as soon as Growlithe got too close, the Ralts teleported to a nearby spot. Growlithe changed direction and kept up chase. It was not a very productive chase though. Many times Growlithe couldn’t reverse his momentum in time and ended up falling down, which sent Kaewyn and the others into unstoppable waves of giggles, then all out laughter.
Kaewyn couldn’t help it. She knew she should be focused, but it was such an amusing sight. Ralts seemed to be having a good time as well. It seemed to enjoy this game of tag. After a while though, both Growlithe and Ralts seemed to be getting tired.
“Kaewyn… he he he… this… is the perfect… ha ha… time to capture… Ralts,” Ronyo labored to say between gasps of breath. Now, even the other Pokemon were paralyzed by laughter. Kaewyn nodded, but there was a piercing pain in her side and she felt very weak from laughing so hard. She just needed to wait for the right moment… NOW! Ralts teleported no more than six feet away with its back to her. She threw the pokeball and it hit its mark. Ralts was swallowed by the pokeball. A few twitches later, Kaewyn fell to the ground again to catch her breath. She had caught her first wild Pokemon.
Growlithe made his way over to his partner and collapsed next to her, panting hard. Kaewyn placed a gentle hand on his head and rubbed behind his ears. “Good work, partner,” she said turning to him. Growlithe smiled. It would be several minutes before they all got up again.

Now Roxi and Kaewyn had two pokemon each. Ronyo shared the girls excitement as he thought about what his first wild catch would be like. While the daydreaming pokemon trainer walked on the two girls used there Pokedex to see what moves and stats their new pokemon had. Suddenly the group heard Houndour howl from atop a small grassy hill. As the trainers came upon the howling Houndour the view of the wonderful Jubilife City came to their eyes.
“Jubilife City, alright our first big stop on a big journey. Ok lets find the Pokecenter and then see what the city has to offer,” Ronyo said with a smile.

“Jubilife City?!? SWEET!” Roxi jumped up with her fist in the air. Roxi was so excited she could see the companies that were so familiar to her through all the T.V. ads. The buildings looked so colorful from the hill the kids were standing on, she couldn’t believe her eyes.
The trio and their ecstatic Pokemon carefully raced down the hill towards the exciting city. Roxi’s thoughts were racing as she thought of the wonders awaiting her in the city. When they had been walking in the city a good ten minutes Roxi saw something moving from the corner of her eye, what she saw scared her half to death.
“WHAT THE HECK IS THAT!?!” She jumped up ten feet in the air. Her shaking hands got out her Pokedex and opened it up. “Burmy. The bug Pokemon, to shelter itself from cold, wintry winds, it covers itself with a cloak made of surrounding materials.” The little voice explained, Relieving Roxi.

Kaewyn nearly laughed out loud at Roxi’s reaction to the small Pokemon. She had seen several Burmy in the woods around Twinleaf, but they had been covered in leaves and branches. Here in the city, such things were scarce, so this Burmy had cloaked itself in something more readily available… trash. It had food wrappers, paper bags, soda cans, and many other indistinguishable things all wrapped around its small body, held together by some kind of pink adhesive.
The funny looking Pokemon was hanging from a flagpole on the Global Trade Station. Kaewyn recognized the building because it was so famous. Here Pokemon trainers could trade Pokemon from around the whole world if they wanted. Kaewyn always wanted to see the inner workings of such a vast operation. But that would have to wait. Roxi suddenly got a determined look in her eyes.

Roxi had a sudden thought, I’m gunna catch that Burmy! “Eevee, go! Let’s get that Burmy!” She threw the ball up in the air and out emerged the fluffy Eevee. Eevee arched her back and let out a long growl. The Burmy just sat there with its little yellow eyes just staring at the brown puff that was making noise. The burmy looked like it was letting out a long sigh, and detached itself from the flagpole and was falling straight at Eevee!
“Eevee, dodge that tackle with your quick attack!” Roxi yelled out as the quick little Pokemon jumped out of the way to where she was on top of the Burmy. “Now Eevee, tackle!”
Roxi was getting excited now, two Pokemon, two days in a row! Eevee came down hard on the Burmy and knocked it out. “Alright,” Roxi yelled as she hurled the pokeball at the dizzy Burmy, “you’re caught now!” The little messy, trash-covered Pokemon was engulfed in the red light of Roxi’s Pokeball; the little container twitched, once, twice, thrice, YES!!
“Yeah!!” Roxi jumped up and punched the air above her head. “Hey, little girl.” A shady looking guy wearing a long trench coat with a high collar came out of the shadows.
“That’s a Burmy right? ‘Wanna trade it for an Kadabra?” He had a sly look on his face. “I, I don’t know…” Roxi was a little scared of this guy. “Ya’ know that when I give it to you it’ll turn into a Alakazam, right?” He started edging closer. “Umm…” Roxi had a look on her face that said she was thinking very seriously. “okay.” She said as strongly as a twelve year old girl can.

“Hold on a second,” Kaewyn broke in, not liking this man at all. The man frowned at Kaewyn’s interruption, but she ignored him. Kaewyn got out her Pokedex and held it up to the small red and white ball the man was holding.
“Kadabra, the Psi Pokemon. When it uses its psychic power, it emits strong alpha waves that can ruin precision devices,” said the female voice. Even though this confirmed there was a Kadabra in the pokeball, Kaewyn still was not convinced that this was a good idea. Kadabra was a very powerful Pokemon after all, and Burmy was… well - not. It was also true that when a Kadabra is traded, it can turn into Alakazam, one of the most powerful psychic Pokemon on record. This seemed too good to be true, but Kaewyn saw that Roxi now really liked this trade. Her eyes were locked on the pokeball with deep intent.
Although Kaewyn didn’t like this idea, she couldn’t explain why, so she had no argument that would convince Roxi otherwise. She turned to Ronyo for his opinion.

“ What’s the catch?” Roxi asked the strange man, who frankly, smelled worse than a Muk. The man looked rather startled at the sudden reason the young girl was using. “Wha-what do you mean ‘the catch’?” He seemed scared. “Fine, I’ll trade with you.” Roxi was eyeing him suspiciously. The man was relieved. He handed the pokeball to Roxi, while handed him the freshly caught Burmy. “HA HA!!” the man yelled out when Roxi took the Pokeball, “Now’s he your problem!! I’m free!” the man skipped away gleefully. Roxi tilted her head and raised one eyebrow above the other as she watched the man skip away. “ Kadabra-er- is it an Alakazam yet?” Roxi looked at Kaewyn and Ronyo. They both had their arms crossed and they didn’t look too happy. “ What?” Roxi was confused; she thought she’d made the right choice, didn’t she?
