Talking about it... would that really solve any of her problems or just make it seem like she was whining even more? Vieno blocked out her past for a good reason, and talking about it often made it worse. Instead of letting the stallion worry, Vieno shook her head and forced a smile, "Naw, it's alright... I'm sure you are a great listener though!." She knew the stallion would have been a great listener because he seemed to have a heart of gold, the only problem was her. Her family caused her to tense up, and talking about it only made a big lump in her throat. She'd come so far, no need to get caught up in her past again! "Thanks for the offer..." Vieno whispered softly, "It was really... sweet."
Blushing a little, the mare trotted ahead, noticing the air had changed and there was now a thick, salty scent about it. The scent and air density intrigued her, what sorts of things lay ahead? Forgetting her embarrassment, she looked back at Dante and grinned, "It smells so different!" It was easy to excite the optimistic mare, even when she was faced with her past. She was like a little filly, dancing from one conversation to another and living life to the fullest. Or it could have been because she was female and they often had quick mood changes, everyone knew that.
Looking to the sky, Vieno sighed, closing her eyes and drawing in a deep breath. After a few seconds, she looked to the stallion, warm brown eyes twinkling once again with excitement and wonder. "I think I like it here," Vieno admitted, "It's just so much more... peaceful!"

Kuval spotted the two specimens instantly, and he moved himself so that only his eyes were showing out from the water. What the hell was this? The landscape suddenly became MORE ugly, and he couldn't believe that two land dwellers had appeared to ruin his day. But at the same time.. was his day really ruined? Kuval would be entertained now, wouldn't he? What else could he possibly do to keep himself entertained? He probably would have gone off to bother a few Mers anyways, and land dwellers were basically the same thing.
With a snort, he continued to allow the waves to roll over him, and he was silent and watching two with an impatient curiosity , since he was indecisive on what his plan of action should be. The two horses looked like nice ones, and that was pathetic. They probably lacked personality or something, and Kuval was prepared to use that to his own advantage if necessary.
"If you say so." Dante then said, as he watched the mare move many steps ahead of him. It was probably best to drop it; and if Vieno wanted him to know, she could tell him on her own accord. But for now, he was glad to see that she was so happy with their arrival! "Yes, the sea! It is my favorite as well. I actually live by the sea, since I love its smell and sound." he always rested by any shoreline, since the waves soothed him into sleep very easily. "It is incredibly peaceful, that's why this area wins as my favorite." And it was even better when it was warmer outside!
He moved himself so that he was now next to her again, and they continued walking until they made their way onto the cool sand. "Usually the sand is nice as warm.. its always a pity to feel it cold." he chuckled to himself while lowering his nose to the sand, and he grinned slightly as he noticed bits of snow stuck in between shards. "The water is probably cold.. but hey, when it is warmer we can always come back and swim!" Even though Dante wasn't a fan of swimming, he enjoyed taking a dip on the hottest of days!
But for now.. his eyes were looking left and right, hoping to see some kind of sea creature. He didn't want to mention anything, so he decided to just smile until Vieno noticed for herself. Maybe the Kelpis or Mers hibernated or something? Dante seriously had no idea!

"The sea... Oh... it's... breath taking..." Vieno sighed, looking out across the vast sea, not sure where it ended. So this was where he spent his days and nights? She herself slept in the clearing where she felt safe knowing where everything was around her. The forest was bothersome, she never knew where anything was around her... and it didn't help that her mane was always in her face, covering her eyes! It wasn't so bad, the sea that is, it wasn't crowded with trees like the forest and it sure did seem peaceful. Sounds of waves crashing up against the shore, the salty smell and the dense air... Yes, Vieno really did like it here.
"The sand's warm?" she questioned, peering down at the hard ground beneath her hooves. Snow wasn't all that bad but it certainly did make the terrain terribly different than in the summer. Dante certainly talked about strange things, swimming? She'd heard some animals discussing this in the clearing once but she'd never actually imagined a horse swimming. Not that she'd ever experience such a thing because she didn't know how! "Swimming? Well, of course..." she said softly, not really sure if she should have agreed or admitted she had no idea how to pull off such a task.
It was then, the mare recalled their adventure, their quest to find the creatures that lived in the sea. Where were they normally, should they have been right in front of them? Vieno felt so lost when she thought about things she knew nothing about, but she didn't let it get her down. When you didn't know something there was always a chance to learn it and Vieno did love to learn. "So, where does our adventure begin?" Vieno giggled, hoping the stallion had some sort of plan, because she sure didn't.

Drama was something that the Kelpi loved, and at the mare's last words, Kuval decided to raise himself out from the water so that the streams of seawater gracefully fell off his body. It was always so funny to watch, water didn't stick to him like it did for land-dwellers, so the droplets of water continued to fall as he moved himself out of the waves. What was this adventure the mare was talking about? Maybe he could be of some assistance? He continued to hold a crude smirk as he made his way out of the water, and he finally stopped while standing just a few spaces in front of the two creatures. The gray stallion changed his expression, since he looked pissed at Kuval's arrival. At least he was smart, maybe he knew a thing or two about Kelpis.
"Why not start your adventure now." he then said, while flapping his tail to get the water off. "Who knows what you'll find in the ocean." At LEAST the mare found the sea breath taking, he would have scolded her if she wasn't impressed. But now that Kuval was standing out of the water, he realized how terribly cold it was outside, and he scoffed to himself at the feel of a chilly breeze. "Tell me mare, what is so confusing about swimming?" he then asked, with a fake curiosity. "Swimming is a natural thing for all of us, and even for land dwellers." Land dwellers that didn't swim were.. well.. even MORE pathetic!
Dante tensed up at the instant sighting of the Kelpi, and he lowered his ears and moved himself so that he was defensively ready and in front of Vieno. If anything, he would have wanted to show Vieno a Mer, rather then a Kelpi. Kelpi's were nothing but bad news apparently, and that worried Dante tremendously. But, as much as he wanted to listen to what he had heard in the past about these sea creatures, he was still interested in the stallion that had made its way out of the water. First off, how the heck did he do that? And secondly, he seriously looked like a fish!
"Listening to our conversation I see." Dante then said, while raising an eyebrow at the stallion. "Don't you find that sort of thing.. tacky?" Or should Dante not expect anything different from this seahorse? "Vieno.. this is a Kelpi I told you about." he then said, while bringing his eyes quickly on the mare. "I never in a million years would have expected us to see one, but apparently we sparked his curiosity or something." And Dante couldn't decide if that was a good thing.. or a bad thing..

The mare was stunned, so many things were happening at once and at first she didn't know what to do. The moment the stallion had risen from the water she'd gasped with surprise and stared at the beautiful creature. She hadn't expected a kelpie to be part horse! Vieno wasn't quite sure what she thought Dante had been talking about or what she'd expected but it certainly hadn't been a fish-like horse creature! The stallion was magnificent... she'd never seen anything quite like it and it was strange but beautiful at the same time. All Vieno could do was look at the kelpie, as Dante called it, the adventure had started, indeed!
"Wow... you're... stunning..." Vieno whispered, absentmindedly and more to herself than the kelpie. It was at that point she blushed for being a blubber brain and watched Dante move toward her in a protective stance. Ah yes, he'd said that kelpies were evil but they certainly didn't seem it. At least... this kelpie just seemed like he wanted to have a decent conversation. "It's okay, Dante, I don't think he's trouble..." Vieno said, tilting her head, "He may just want to have a decent conversation like we were." Always the optimist, the mare couldn't think that the kelpie wanted to play with their heads, nope everything was magic and rainbows to her.
"Swimming... swimming..." Once again, the mare blushed, looking down to her hooves as she sighed and shook her head. When she finally looked back up, she was blushing still, "I... I don't really know how to swim. I suppose that's a terrible thing to admit!" There were lots of things Vieno didn't know how to do, but she certainly hoped to one day be able to experience these things. At least then she would have an opinion or a like or dislike of the activities.
"Sparking his curiosity... wasn't that what we came for, Dante? It wouldn't have been much of an adventure if we just came to see the sea! As beautiful as it is..." she ended and sighed happily, looking out at the vast sea and the waves crashing up against the shore.

Although Kuval wanted to believe this mare's reaction, he found it rather hard to acknowledge the fact that she found him 'stunning'. Seriously now? There were reasons Soquili were afraid of him.. and he DID look like a sea monster when he wanted to. Another interesting thing about the mare in front of him, was that she was so very subtle in everything she did. From her little smiles to her innocent blushes.. she clearly was a mare who found everything to be full of happiness and love. Kuval wanted to jump right in and explain quite the opposite about life, since life was far from that bullshit appeal.
The stallion on the other hand, was still glancing at Kuval with an angry watch. The Kelpi found that humorous, and he snorted as he walked a few more steps forward. "And why wouldn't you think I was trouble? You don't know my past, what I have done to others, or what I plan on doing on this specific day." He swayed his head dramatically, before lowering his eyes in a sheepish manner. "Plus, my curiosity is clearly much different then yours, so how can you justify me if you don't even know what I stand for? It's all common sense I am pointing out, and if you lack that, then that is not my problem. And also.. you not knowing how to swim only lowers the meter of the worth of land dwellers." Why did they exist again? Oh right.. to GIVE him a headache!
"Tacky is fun, stallion." Kuval then said, while shooting the stallion an interesting glance. "Your words are just as tacky as my desire to come out of the water today, so I suppose we are even now."
Dante was hardly surprised at the Kelpi's words towards Vieno, but he felt awful that she had to listen to his nonsense. Hopefully she wasn't believing him.. or.. maybe she was?! She was such a kind mare, but Dante hoped that she looked past his crazy ramblings and kept her true ideas to herself. "When a Kelpi has curiosity, that is usually a bad thing." Dante then said, while glancing at Vieno with a light frown. "Their intents are never good, and its always smart to keep your guard up. This one is obviously a grump, so we best be watching him carefully." The scary part was.. it looked like the Kelpi was now watching them with his own plots! Dante did not like that thought one bit, so he would be prepared for anything for he and the mare.
"Her swimming skill has nothing to do with anything." Dante then defended, as he glared at the Kelpi for his words. "She hasn't had the chance to swim yet, so how could you judge her on such a thing?" In Dante's mind, that was a low blow, used just for the sake of manipulation. Pft, and it was extremely rude at the same time! "Don't listen to him, Vieno. He doesn't know what he is talking about. He is just trying to sound knowledgeable for nothing!"

Vieno thought about the kelpie's words as he spoke, she wasn't quite sure what to make of him at that very moment. Was he being mean just to scare them away? Or was he just trying to explain that life wasn't always joyful and happy like she seemed to think it was. Then again, he could have been evil much like Dante seemed to think, or maybe there was something deep down that made him push others away. Vieno knew what that was like... she had many deep, dark, secrets she didn't let anyone in on. At times it was hard to hold them in but she managed, keeping a cheery attitude while she did so. There were so many good things in life, you couldn't let the few bad things get you down.
"I just give everyone the benefit of the doubt, I suppose," Vieno smiled softly at the kelpie, still believing that he had a reason for his speech. Although, she wasn't entirely sure she liked the way he was speaking to Dante... for such a kind stallion didn't deserve harsh words. At that moment, she made an unwise decision and spoke up, "I think you two are being a bit judgemental... I mean, you can't know what every kelpie is like before meeting them, can you? A-and I'm sure you..." she let her sentence end for a moment while she looked at the kelpie, unsure of his name before she continued, "You, sir... don't know my friend here that well either. Do you think we could maybe judge once we know each other better?"
At that point she felt horrible, she shouldn't have said anything to either of the stallions, it certainly wasn't her place. "I'm sorry... I'm out of line, I shouldn't have said anything," the mare sighed, doing her best to apologize, "and... I know I can't swim and that's probably a very useful skill but I... I... I really haven't had time to learn much yet. I'd really like to try though, oh... I'd love to try," the mare nodded, hoping to lead the conversation away from what she'd said.
(( Edit: I'm so sorry for taking so long, Tweek! RL gave me a big kick in the butt and it was just overwhelming for the past month. So, I'm really sorry and I hope you'll forgive me. ;; I'll try not to ever take a month to reply again! ))

Dante lowered his head as Vieno spoke, but his eyes stayed glued on her as if he was being taught a lesson or something. Vieno had a very good point in her words, and who was Dante to completely judge this particular stallion? Yeah, the Kelpi was being a jerk, but he was hardly dangerous, and Dante didn't consider that fact. Dante could take him in a fight if he made any rash moves, but at the moment, he would just hold his composure and act polite, since Vieno was doing that herself. And she truly was a pro!
"I apologize too, I don't mean to be such a killjoy. My worrying tends to bring out the worst in me." he shrugged lightly while smiling at the mare, but in a matter of moments, his eyes were glued back on the strange Kelpi. There was nothing to say to him. Anything Dante WOULD have said would have been rude, so he held his tongue for this time.
Kuval watched the interaction silently, before finally letting himself laugh hysterically. He was forcefully laughing so much, that he continued to throw his head back and forth in a horrible flow. "My...gosh.." he then said, while coughing as he caught his breath.
"Mare, it is impossible NOT to judge someone. I have already judged the both of you this entire time, and my accusations were dead on. I am still trying to discover if there is more to each of your personalities, but that is hardly possible!" Why should Kuval have faith in them, anyways? They were a bunch of nobodies! "If you are going to admit to your mistake, then why did you speak out in the first place?"
Why did creatures always apologize like that? If they didn't want to talk, then why did they talk anyways?! Kuval shook his head while thinking, before swishing his tail in a disgruntled manner. "I already told you not to give me any sort of benefit. I am presenting myself as I am, and you two are doing the same. This is how life works. Our conversation is nothing special, nor exciting." So where was the mare pulling hope from? Kuval was seriously confused!

"I suppose I try my best not to judge... it's certainly unfair to judge someone on a rumour or something you've heard," Vieno admitted. She wasn't sure what to say about his laughing, it hurt her deep down but she tried not to mention it. Vieno didn't know this stallion, he could have been hurting too, so instead of explaining that he was hurting her feelings she just nodded her head.
The next bit he said made Vieno ponder why they were still chatting, she couldn't exactly say she hadn't enjoyed meeting him... because she'd never seen a kelpie before but it seemed they were making him miserable. "Well, we certainly didn't mean to bother you," Vieno admitted, "I didn't know the conversation was so completely unpleasant and dull. I thought it was wonderful to meet you, I've never seen anything quite like you before..." the mare smiled. It was then she gazed over the stallion that had risen from the ocean. No matter when she looked at him she was always stunned. The way his fins were attached to his lithe body, the strange whiskers on his face. She could understand why some may fear these poor creatures, for they did look very different, but did different have to be bad?
"You probably won't like me saying this... but you're very handsome... the way you're coloured... it's almost... fishlike! It's quite interesting..." she smiled and finally looked away, "I'm sorry though." Had the mare known she was just going to bother the poor creature she may not have wanted to go down to the ocean at all. Making friends was the main thing on Vieno's mind and she certainly didn't want to do the opposite. "Dante... do you think we should leave? I wouldn't want to cause him any more trouble..." she asked the stallion she'd come with. If being alone was what the kelpie wanted, she could certainly grant that wish.

Kuval lowered his smirk-like grin into a frown, and he instantly shook his head at the mare's words. "Man, you are so confusing. You keep trying to justify yourself, and now you are complimenting me? For the last time, why are you trying so hard? If you are trying to start a friendship, you best be wasting your time on the stallion next to you." with grunt, he smacked his tail towards the other male with a usual annoyance. "If you are so amazed by my appearance, then I must officially apologize as a Kelpi. I in no means am proud of my race, and although I enjoy myself I only do so for myself, and not for others. And jeez, you are impressed that I look fish-like? I am Koi-like, naturally." Goodness, was the intelligence of land dwellers really this terrible?
"As I said, I have done nothing but hurt your hopes and dreams of what a Kelpi should be, or could be. Good luck meeting anyone better then me, though." he then said, with a rekindled smile. "And I will save you the trouble of leaving, I was thinking of doing so anyways." Hmph, he didn't want to hear any more blabber anyways! He really couldn't take their words as intelligent at this point.
With a quick turn around, the Kelpi walked back over to the water's edge with no hesitation. "Have fun with the land." he then said, while still keeping his back to the two figures. Within minutes he was back and into the water, and away from the two other soquili. His mind went back to its usual self thought, and he had instantly forgotten about the meeting for the time being. He had other things to worry about.
Dante was thrilled. His head had been aching with each word that the Kelpi said, and now that he was leaving he could finally go back to enjoying Vieno's company. "My goodness.. honestly Vieno, don't listen to a word he said!" The stallion wasn't sure if Vieno would get upset or anything, and he changed his expression to one of sympathy and concern. "I don't believe that Kelpi, anyways. I know there are more out there, and I am sure they are nice too. He probably has no friends or something, jeez what a jerk."
Dante was trying to hide the fact that he was pissed off at the situation, but he was mainly glad that the initial problem had left them for now. But still.. hopefully Vieno wasn't effected by the Kelpi's ridiculous words, she was far far better then him.

Vieno was stunned to say the least, she hadn't known her company was so... unwanted. She wasn't frustrated with the kelpie, nor was she mad, she was just stunned for she had no idea what to do in such a situation. When he slinked off back to the ocean she tilted her head, peering at him curiously. The mare imagined he wasn't quite so bad on a good day, or maybe he just didn't get along with "land dwellers". Either way, she wished him well, and hoped he had many other friends of his kind that lived down under the sea with him. After all the commotion, she realized she was just glad she'd learned something new, that thing being what a kelpie really was. And... as grumpy as that one was, she didn't quite believe they were all mean and unliked.
"Hmm... well, I hope he makes lots of friends where he lives... I'd hate to go through life without friends!" Vieno exclaimed to Dante. She hadn't really heard what he'd said about not listening to the kelpie for she'd been lost in her own world. She did catch his last bit though, and with a small smile she spoke, "I sure hope there's others out there... I'd really love to meet them!" It was obvious that it took a lot more than a grump to get this optimistic soul down. "Maybe he just likes his own kind or something, I'm sure he's not completely dark and evil," she nodded to Dante before she slipped off into her own world again.
A thought occurred to her, were she and Dante friends? She certainly wanted to try and make it that way, he was such a sweet and kind soul! Actually, he was the first stallion she'd met in the area and she was quite glad for that, it certainly made things look up. If half the horses and animals she met were as nice as Dante she wouldn't have a problem making friends at all. Of course, the kelpie worried her a little, because Vieno always figured she wasn't good enough to be friends with anyone else. So, the question came, soft-spoken and unsure the mare asked, "Dante, do you think... we could be friends? I mean... that is, if you'd like to!"

Dante's mood was completely shifted from the mare's unexpected words, and he could only smile as brightly as possible. "Friends? My goodness.. I don't have many friends, I would be honored! We seemed to survive a grumpy-soul together, so we really must be strong!" He laughed lightly, before appreciating the mare's request. Besides his family and Tal who was a childhood friend, he really didn't go out and search for many friends. Apparently today he was lucky to make one!
"This Kelpi brought a good lesson of how important friendship is, and I know I may have offered it before but if you ever need anything I am always around. It is an oath I have to those that are important to me, I am always here to save them." Dante's life was pretty simple- he basically lived for everyone else, but he sorta liked it that way. "You will probably make lots of friends as you continue to travel in this land, I actually have no doubt about that!" Vieno was so easy to talk too.. hopefully no one would take advantage of her or bother her or something!
Dante was already starting to get worried, just as he always did. "Hopefully I can introduce you to some of my other friends and family some day, so you can meet some others that I trust and know. I promise they are nice." Well, at least HALF of his family was, and that was good to know. The other half.. he would never bring up, for the sake of their safeties.

"Aww, he wasn't so bad! He just needs to find someone who's better at cheering him up than we are," she giggled, now excited to have a new friend. Truth be told the stallion was her only friend, but Vieno wasn't about to admit that because she certainly didn't want to tell of her horrible past. The thought of it made her cringe but instead of dwelling on it and living in the past, she forced herself to move forward and make a new life. "I hope we'll be strong friends forever. I really like you, Dante!" Vieno smiled, she felt it was right to tell him what she thought of him, he had a right to know!
"I appreciate your offer, and the same goes for you... if y'know... you ever need anything. I might not be able to fend off a wolf well but I'd certainly try! That's what friends are for, right?" she asked sincerely, not exactly knowing if all friends were that loyal. She certainly felt that she and Dante would be good, loyal, friends but she wasn't sure if that's how everyone was. No, it seemed this poor mare had been locked away from the world for far too long, but someday she'd learn the things she needed to know. This stallion seemed like a good being and she definitely trusted him, not that it was hard to earn Vieno's trust... So perhaps he could teach her the things she wanted to know, he certainly didn't seem the type to scoff or bully around.
"Oh, I'd love to meet them! Friendly horses are the best thing to brighten anyone's day, even a wintery one like this!" she giggled and looked up at the blue sky a moment, thinking. There wasn't anybody she could introduce him to... yet... Vieno hoped that she'd make many, many friends and have others she could rely on and introduce her new friend to. For now, she only had the kind stallion and she certainly wasn't complaining!

Vieno's positivity was really something in Dante's eyes, he and he could only continue to hold a smile as she talked, and he wondered if there was anything that ever made her down or sad! Her personality reminded him so much of Tal's personality, and he was sure they could get along so much. "Ah ok, I will make sure to try and set something up sometime. I'd like you to meet my friend Tal, but she is off traveling for the time being. Hopefully she will return when the spring finally comes in, since that is enough to bring anyone home."
At least, Dante hoped she'd come home, since the winter was rather lonley without her. "I must admit though, I feel sort of bad for getting your hopes up about Kelpis, and then watching that jerk ramble on for as long as he did. I thought he was cool looking and everything, but it kinda sucked you know? I always feel bad when I see someone who doesn't seem happy.." he paused slightly, while then shaking his head. "Maybe we will run into him again someday, who knows!" But, if that were to happen, Dante would probably kick his a**...
"What would you like to do now, Vieno?" he then said, while shifting his thoughts a bit. The day had gone by fast, and Dante wanted to enjoy the short time he had with her as much as he could. "Is there anything else you would like to see? Or would you like me to start escorting you back to where I met you?" He wasn't sure where Vieno had come from, but he knew it was important to be courteous.

"Hmm... I think I'd like to meet him again someday... perhaps when it's raining, maybe kelpies like the rain because it's watery!" Vieno giggled a bit, she sounded childish and knew it, so of course she had to apologize. Ears flickering back a bit as she shook her mane out of her face she sighed, "I'm sorry, I'm a bit childish... haven't been out much I suppose," she giggled a bit, trying to keep the conversation light.
"I'd love to meet your friend though, I mean if she's a friend of yours she has to be great!" Vieno smiled, "It's always nice to meet and greet others, making new friends... there's nothing wrong with that!" The silly mare thought friends were the greatest things in the world, but she hadn't met any back stabbing evil beings yet.
"Time flies, doesn't it?" the femme asked as she looked to the sky, telling them just how quickly the day had gone by. Vieno normally stayed to watch the sunset for it was the most beautiful time of day, in her opinion. "So how do you normally end your days? I like to watch the sunset... there's no other time of day that blends such beautiful colors." The mare sighed to herself, she certainly enjoyed beautiful things... and scenery most of all.
