"Daling--" she drew it out, talking through her nose to make her speech sound stuffy and heavy, "When are you going to find a man and settle down? You know how very much you're father and I would like to see you taken care of so we don't have to worry anymore."

Madeline winced at the last sentence. Mother's, no matter how many times you had the same discussion with them, they never seemed to get it. "Mother," she sighed, shifting the phone so that she could cradle it between chin and shoulder, "How many times must I tell you, I can take care of myself just fine. Besides, there is nothing wrong with being single and content with it," her eyes guiltily darted down to the letter on the mahogany table. That strange letter that came in the mail today, so inconspicuous and yet--

"All I'm saying, sweetheart," the voice on the other line drawled on, "is that I'd like you to make it up here one or two weekends. I know a few families who will be in town, each of them with handsome sons, it couldn't hurt for you to take a look."

Despite her mother being a million miles away it was incredible the way she could physically effect Madeline, the little wrinkles in Maddie's forehead creasing to a almost dangers point and she clenched her fist. "If I want a man I can find one for myself, thank you very much!" Had her dear mother really forgotten the last disaster that she placed upon her daughter by hooking her up with a 'friend' of the family? "So please! Don't further trouble yourself with my life, personal, or otherwise!"

Bitterly she hung up the phone, not even waiting for a goodbye. Fortunately the exhausting emotional toll of the call wouldn't weigh that heavily on Madeline. This wasn't the first time their conversation had ended like this. Occurrences of angry outbursts between the two had become a frequent almost weekly ritual. Though...they were never truly hateful towards each other, just very volatile friends, angry one day and the next, like best friends. So no, while Madeline's conversation with her mother hadn't pushed her enough to get upset, it had pushed her just enough to take some initiative.

"Cupid's Chokehold...hmn?" She picked up the tattered pieces of paper in front of her. W-what could it hurt? In her pale hands she turned over the edges of the fine print, black and white...well, it looked easy enough. The worst that could happen was to be rejected, after all.

Journal: A Letter and Reply to Akram

Akram Mercier
Miss Madeline,

My name is Akram Mercier, and I received your name and profile from Cupid's Chokehold as someone who would be potentially compatible with me. Would you be interested in meeting with me in person over lunch or coffee, so that we may better ascertain if perhaps true happiness really does lie at the end of the road for us? If you would like to get together, please let me know, and we can make proper arrangements.

~Akram

PS. Apologies if my message comes across as awkward. I am less so in person. Or so I like to think.

Dear Akram Mercier,

I am sorry to say I do not know the proper title you wished to be addressed by, so for now I shall refer to you by your full name. I'm flattered that you would even consider me for a meeting and accede your request to coffee. I believe that it is Joseph whom shall see to it that accommodations for our first meeting are taken care of, with this in mind, I am sending along a second letter too him. I look forward to meeting you in person until then, my best regards.

Sincerely,

Madeline Crossette
