"Yyyeah I am quite the fifth wheel out, ain't I?" Mandy let her legs free from her bear hug, her big pink flip flops were kicked from her feet as she rubbed the soles against the plush pirate towel. "I'm jes an innocent passerby, honest... I saw... Lamia and wanted to know what she was..." She watched the emo angel thing and the snake girl converse with each other. They weren't going to throw down were they?
"Sooo.... How did you get yours? I asked... " Looking over at the girl hiding beside her, she lowered her voice, "her, but uhmm her answer was... vague..."

He ignored her. Well, she had seen that too. Or... Jezebel stopped thinking about it. "Vague," she said airily. "Vague... Vague. You'll be alive. Vague." She traced patterns on Lamia's scales. "Can't tell you. It's different."
She followed Shateiel's gaze. "Mine power hast overflowed its chalice," Lamia said smugly. "Yon child thought too highly of her talents." Even if her contract could never be completed with Jezebel in this state, the fact that she could overpower someone into insanity made her quiet proud of herself. "Tis a small price, to remain'st here among mortals."

"He was summoned," Corie said simply, watching on with increasing disinterest, picking up a handful of sand every now and again only to watch it fall from his grip seconds later. "Not gonna go in to any details or anything, it really isn't that interesting," he went on, "but my reason for summoning him was probably different from hers," with a glance in the other girl's direction.
Shateiel nodded at the serpent, though he felt differently about her summoner's current state, only saying, A shame, it is, to see such a thing happen, not that he particularly cared all too much, but, still. Quite a difficult contract to take on for someone so young, but it was her choice; it couldn't be helped.

Mandy watched the new boy, trying to read him but really to no avail. Both of them were just odd little souls. She turned away and hummed quietly to herself, watching the sun glisten off Lamia's scales. "I think it's pretty interesting. I thought all that stuff was just a bunch of mumbo jumbo..." She picked the last words carefully, hoping the slight insult would lead to a broader discussion on this whole summoning thing. She wanted to knooow!!
She was also kind of curious as to why it seemed Lamia was talking to herself, but when she strained in on their conversation-- eavesdropping was such a vulgar word-- she could hear a low whispering that came from no mouth. And he said this wasn't very interesting?

"Twas only mine power for her eyes," Lamia said, a little hurt that he wasn't more impressed. Not every demon could drive a child insane, especially since their bodies were so flexible. "Tis mine fault for expecting it not."
She rose to the bait. "Not mumbo jumbo," she muttered, watching the sand fall from Corie's hand. "'S real. In Durem. Beautiful things. Frightful things. Fear. And-- beauty?" Tears pricked at her eyes and she let them be. She didn't know why she was sad. The falling sand hurt her head. Jezebel reached out and slapped at Corie's hand, trying to get him to stop. "Don't do that," she begged.

It was not often that Jiran found himself giving into the simple pleasures in life. Alcohol, women, and the gentle caress of sand between the toes. Today, he had allowed himself a small amount of leave from the confines of his study, to walk among real people on the wonderfully salty shore of Gambino Beach. He blocked out all negative. The fact that there were any other people there was possibly the largest (and most difficult to ignore) negative, as Jiran hated mankind much more than any other thing in the world. Stupid, useless, loud, panicky beasts-
-Hold on.
For a moment, Jiran decided to ignore his own eyes. Something he'd become frighteningly good at, over the years. But, upon a disobedient second glance, he knew that what he'd seen was not hallucination. There were demons. Bold as day, right across the beach, chatting with a few humans.
His breath caught in his rough throat, and his mustache seemed to twitch as he fought his own desire to have a closer inspection. Cursing it, his desire won, and he slowly, quietly began to make his way towards the group. Drawing closer, he saw that the demons greatly resembled that of things he had seen, while studying, and his excitement grew.
"Could it be...possible?" He breathed near-silently to himself. "To really bring them...to this world...?"
Admittedly, he had never been a particularly social man.

Corie, though not fully taken by the insult, was about to comment before Jezebel interrupted. "Hey, you could just ask like a normal person, no reason to touch me," the boy said with a certain amount of disdain, but stopped regardless, dusting off his hand, before going on to say, "Well, it obviously isn't a bunch of mumbo jumbo, since you can see those two plain as day, right?"
Never one to give things up easily, if this girl wanted more details, she wasn't about to get them from him, or, at least, not right now. "Why are you so curious about this?"
What's done is done; it will be interesting to see how this turns out, though, Shateiel said, seemingly distracted by something, an approaching figure, maybe, but he wouldn't say anything about that just yet.

"I.... guess..." Mandy's words trailed off as she watched the kidlets manhandle each other. Was she ever that awkward or weird as a teenager? She hoped not.
"I dunno, it's just... not everyday I get a chance to meet demons let alone two. I think anyone would be curious as to where you got them..." Trying not to give anything away, she began smoothing out her pirate beach towel. Was she looking too nosy? Should it even matter? Anyone would want to know, even if they didn't have an ulterior motive. Gah, brats!
Her last thought left a sour taste in her mouth and she looked away from the boy and found... Jesus, another person? Was it a national holiday she was not aware of? He didn't have any companion, or at least none she could see which meant nothing. For all Mandy knew, the guy could have a jumping flea demon able to strip the flesh of mortals in seconds! Or he was walking into a lion's den unknowingly. She wanted to wave her arms and tell him to run free from the weird, but... whatever. Maybe there would be a demon/human smackdown.

Lamia seemed to sense Jiran's approach. Curiousity! That's not what any demon was, not even past-angels or the weakling Ghosts. "Wherefore art thou at this place? Who art thou?" Agitated, but unwilling to break her contract with Jezebel by thrashing as she wanted to, she pointed one black and thrillingly sharp nail at Jiran, belying her apparent blindness. "Stay'st where thy feet now art planted," she order imperiously. "I am a Demon. Obeyst me, or perish."
"She needs it," Jezebel contributed, moon-like eyes locked on Mandy. There wasn't any force in her but the insanity. Maybe it had been different when she was sane and able to hold a coherent train of thought. But now it was just the madness. "Something she values will be taken away if she doesn't get it."

Jiran stopped dead in his place, staring in morbid fascination at Lamia. He didn't stop from fear, though he eyed her long nails for a moment. He stopped from the utmost respect...near adoration. A real demon, to him, was like seeing Jesus Christ in the flesh...even if it wasn't Lilith, or a Succubus. "You speak so elegantly," He breathed, his usually beady eyes bulging under his thick eyebrows. He tried to place the name of the demon, but it escaped him. He knew he had seen something similar not long ago.

"If it's something you need, then you'll have no trouble finding it, or, at least, that's how I see it," he muttered, trailing off at hearing Lamia's outburst, which surprised him only slightly, and shifted to see exactly who it was that she was talking to, or, rather, bossing around. It wasn't enough that there was one person who asked far too many questions about the demons, no, there had to come along another strange guy to gawk at them; needless to say, it made him feel slightly uncomfortable, with so much attention being concentrated on that small area.
Shateiel thought it a good thing that the man did not incur the wrath of the serpent demon, less there be bloodshed on this very beach, but it wasn't as if he knew what was going on in Lamia's mind. And still he has yet to answer the question; just who is this stranger, he wondered.

You speak so elegantly? Wow, this group of misfits just go better and better. If only she had a camcorder she could laugh at this at a later time. Until then she sat quietly so as not to enrage skin-splicing demons.
"Well thanks..." Mandy couldn't hold in the sarcasm. Did no one understand a simple question? Did everything have to be in riddles? Her other life was wrought with quizzes, this one didn't need to start following that trend. She lied down on her towel, the soft sand molding around her little body. At least Jess had given her a location, that was better than she could say about.... uhmmm... "What's your name?" Leaning to her side, she looked up at the boy with the angel... thing. She'd get to the newest weirdo when he gave her some useful advice.

For a moment, the flattery distracted Lamia. Then she realized he hadn't answered her question. "Obeyst me," she raged. "Wherefore art thou here? Give me thine name!"
Jezebel frowned at Corie, and then at Shateiel. "Well, it's a race, isn't it? Aphoism." Her eyelids drooped and she focused on the waves. Her unreliable abilities gave her insight into the minds of those around her. "We are all weirdos, Mandy."

Jiran shuffled a little, feeling uneasy with so many people turning to take him into the conversation. "I...I noticed you, and this," He gestured to Shateiel absently, "From the other side of the beach. I..." He paused a moment, trying to decide how to word this without arousing suspicion. "I have been studying summoning for quite some time. It was long considered impossible among...certain people." He hoped dearly the second, unrecognizable demon was not an intention-reading one. "I am Jiran Lufaarzitat." He eventually managed, bowing, but not breaking eye-contact with Lamia's face. The humans were practically invisible, in his eyes.
Standing in one place for so long, the hot sand began to burn Jiran's bare feet, and he shifted a little to the side. He pulled a handkerchief out of his pocket and wiped his dark-skinned face on it. Not venturing outside often left him ill-suited to drastic environmental differences, like excessive exposure to heat or cold.

"Corie," the boy said simply, turning his attention back to the girls; if the man could ignore them, he could very well play that game, too. "Look, if you really wanna know about the summoning part, like that girl said, there's a place in that one city you could go to," so, she's not entirely crazy if she could get that out, he decided. It wouldn't hurt anyone just to tell her about the place and, if she really needed it, she'd have an idea where to start; that was his good deed for the day.
Having been reduced to a mere this, compared to a nameless demon, no less, as depressing as it may have been, the winged demon's black eyes merely narrowed at the intruder, or so he called the man. While it was not in him to read any ill intentions, he simply did not like the man from first sight, for whatever other reason; instead, he opted to prompt Jezebel by asking, What exactly do you mean?
