I find it a little odd that you suggest that following God is being close-minded. Would it not apply the other way round? That refusing to believe in and therefore also not-following God is ignorant and close-minded? It really just depends on which side of the fence you stand.

No one is suggesting that following or not following God is being close-minded but rather blindly following anything would be close-minded
