Pretty much the only thing I've "given up" is my ugly super baggy man clothes -- and good riddance - and my body image issues.
I think its horribly funny - and completely awesome - when lolita like and do very unlolita things just because they want to.

I think its horribly funny - and completely awesome - when lolita like and do very unlolita things just because they want to. Too true. I love the idea of Amani eating pizza in her frills and the other day, I went to an arcade and smacked my friend up at Bumper Cars in my Sweet Steampunk Lolita getup. But some things in my mind just don't coincide. Which is clearly my mind's conundrum and nothing else. I was just wondering if anyone felt the same way.

I'm NOT a lady. At all.
I'm normally found sitting with on leg up(foot on chair) even in skirts or dress's. I'm loud, I get mad when I'm sad, and I'm mean when I'm mad...I mean...REALLY hurtful. I'm normally perverted to. (tehehe-13yr old pervert) I fight and punch and cut things with knifes...My hands are ******** up...and I cuss... I get really lazy on my period...or I get really hyper and start cleaning....(bipolar) and when I say get lazy...I normal never get out of my pajamas, which some times is what I wore the day before. I snag tights and stockings...I chew....on my hands and on things...(Like chairs, tables, movie cases, telephones...anything) I drink tea....but also alot of other stuff like coffee when i feel like being mellow(yes, thats the affect I get) or pop when I...well...want pop. I also b***h about people bitching...I hate bitching about anything, so I later b***h scilently to my self about my bitching...about people b***h....which is normally about other people bitching... I'm un-orangized, My rooms a mess normally too...
And most of that I would keep a secret but right now seeing this thread I felt like I needed too.. I don't diserve to be a member of this guild...I'm not much of a lolita AT all...

Me, personaly, I think thats fine! Though some people here may disagree, im not sure. I think lolita does have rules of what is and isn't but I don't go for so much of the "additude" of lolita's. Not all that many japanese lolita's do; mostly its just a style. Lot's do have a little bit of the additude or lifestyle but no lolita I know has tried to change themselves to be "lolita". Lolita is what they are and they dont have to "give stuff up" to be lolita. I notice that with american lolita and I am half and half on what i think. I think you should not have to change yourself to fit a perfect mold of a "lolita" but I also think they should be rules (of course) and that american lolita are much more passionate than japanese. In japan, it is mostly just a style that you see in stores and wear. but also it is a little of a lifestyle becuase yes, often those who where lolita are already interested in 'tea-time' and rococo before they become lolita. It is true there are lolita who go all out, but there are not many and it is not all that common. lolita is a style, like punk, goth, skater, rapper and american stlyes like that. Just as these have, there are things that go along woth them. People who dress in Skater fashion, usualy skateboard. this is like lolita. Those who wear lolita often like tea, and sewing, ect. The lolita bible isn't exactly like what it is like on the streets of japan. just like the american magazines like "Vogue" isnt what you see on the streets exactly in America, is that correct? It is a fashion magazine, with pointers, and so on and things are made to be like they own world, and perfect. I am sorry if i offend people, I just say this from a Japanese lolita perspective, because I am starting to think that people in america don't exactly have the right idea of what lolita is like in japan. I may be wrong, forgive me if I have said things you already know.

There is no specific way you need to act to be Lolita. Really, the only requirement is an appreciation for frills.
I think that the only reason it's considered a lifestyle as well as a fashion, is because it takes so much effort.
The clothes are expensive, so you either have to save a lot to afford them, or learn to sew skillfully and make them. Then occasionally, a little defensiveness required to deal with people who don't understand Lolita.

I think it's good that we get to see your perspective. We don't often get the viewpoints from a Japanese lolita since most of the communities (Gaia guilds, EGL on livejournal) are mostly Western people. EDIT: And yeah, I knew most of those things that you've mentioned. xD Don't worry.

-...quand le soleil sera couché dans ton âme froide.- Haha, yes that is like The Lolita bible, or other fashion magazines here... and all over the world I am sure of it. The styles we see in the magazines, we like to get insparation from, but the main thing here isn't looking a "certain way" its looking how you WANT to look. If the clothes you like, happen to be under a certain catagory, then thats fine. I think japan is more... accepting? to different styles, a little anyway. Of course there is the older people that think we are crazy... But because people are more accepting, people are free to express themselves how they want. The magazines, that is a fashion designers expresson. Then people can get insparation from them and make it your own. That is why there is so many "Make it yourself" things in magazines here, like the Lolita bible. People can take the patter, and make it there own style with different fabric, decorations and accesories. On Sundays in harajuku you see many styles. People go to meet friends because sometimes your friends at home (whether you live in Tokyo or not) do not dress like you, so you can meet people in the same style. And, its a common place to meet so you know someone with a style like you will be there on sunday razz Sometimes, someone will start a new trend by wearing something really new and outragous. next week there may be a few more people that ahve taken that style and made it there own. I think that is also why there is so many different styles in Japan, because every person has there own way of expressing themself. Hehe I want to be a fashion and music journalist, I love to write about things like this!

The reason why the Western lolitas are usually so strict with the fashion is because the Western culture is usually more familiar with the Nabokov 'Lolita', among other misconceptions because of Cosplay, and etc. But usually there's just strictness with the overall look and quality of Lolita that makes it different from everything else, everything else like prints, styles, and other things can easily fall into place, especially when you get to the coordinating part. imo, when you coordinate your outfit, that's the part that makes your outfit the most unique, rather than just making/getting something.
please come to New York City if you're going to college for that kind of journalism lol

I still act pretty much the same, except maybe sew more and try to alter stuff more. But I was going towards that anyways with my cosplay stuff.
I'm too lazy to be lolita all the time. I wear it for special ocasions and it takes me 4 EVER to get myself ready. But I would like to get enough pieces and used to wear it so that I would wear it once a week. Right now maybe I'm at like once every 2 weeks or once a month. Doesn't that seem kinda sad. sad
*remember that she still needs to repaint her white shoes* eek

I've only used leather dye before, but never paint. (And not even that very much because the vegan in me wants to get rid of my leather shoes.) P.S. I like your signature.

i have yet to change fully, but i am working on my language. i used to swear, a lot. every few words. i thought of them as just another word but i would rather fit the persona and the style of lolita. i also plan on trying a lot of teas, i have NEVER had one i liked... so i want at least one. as well i want to stop slouching, sit with my legs closed and just take more time and put more effort into things. all i should work on anyway. plus, it will help my current lover relationship and my family relationship.
