A Night-time Confrontation...

Rae was sitting on the end of Dragonz's bed when she stumbled inside in the early hours of the morning. Kohaku sat under her warming lamp in a corner of the bed, humming softly. Dragonz's long blue hair was still damp from her shower, and she blinked in surprise when she caught sight of Rae. She pulled the towel a little tighter around her body, but it offered meager protection from her companions searching eyes.

The half-dragon thanked whatever god that was listening that the room was still dark, hiding most of the marks over her skin. Still, Rae picked out enough little cuts and bruises to make her frown. "Where have you been, Anakora? Where do you go every night, when you think I'm not looking? I came in here to check on you, and you were gone." Her frown got darker when she reached out for her Dreamer's mind, and was blocked by a wall. "WHY DO YOU BLOCK ME OUT!! What are you so desperate to hide from me?" Hurt shown clearly in Rae's eyes, and Dragonz quailed inside.

"I can't tell you Rae." She said softly, pulling on a set of pjs while trying to hide the worst of her marks. "Really, its nothing. I just need a place to go relax. You know how stressed I am lately..." When Rae looked like she was going to speak again, Dragonz raised her hand to halt the words. "I really need this part of my life to be private, from everyone. Please understand Rae... I need this." Her eyes pleaded with her dragon.

Rae sighed softly. "Its not drugs is it? Alcohol? Are you selling your body?" Dragonz broke out laughing, and the dragon smiled in return.

"Good heavens, no! Nothing like that." Still giggling, she climbing into the bed, tugging Kohau over to cuddle her. "Please Rae. Let me have my little secret. I need it." Rae sighed again, crawling down into the bed to cuddle with her dreamer.

"I just worry, is all. Promise me you'll be careful, that you won't get into trouble. I can't be there to help you, if I don't know where you are or what you're doing."

"I promise, Rae. Don't worry."

~Dragonz's Journal~

It seems that not all mysterians are the nice, cuddly variety we find in the shop...

This halloween, Sian suddenly disappeared, leaving behind only a blood stained note. The Mysterians and their guardians went through a magic mirror to save her. Sian had many friends among the guardians, and many turned out to help.

I'm fond of Sian, and when I heard she'd been kidnapped, I desperately wanted to help too. I packed Kohaku up in a backpack, and went to the shop. Nadine showed me the way through the mirror, giving me some advice on what I could expect to find there.

The first Mysterian I met in the mirror world was the centaur, Daemon. I havn't met many Mysertians yet, and I was very pleased to get to do so now, as well as expose Kohaku to more of her kind. My dear little one is the little charmer, singing and making little noises all the time.

After moving a rock from our path in my dragon form, the group made for the mountain pass. The kidnappers weren't pleased with our interferance, and sent a Witch, Zomibe, and reanimated goat skeletons to attack us. It was a very fierce battle, and though I tried to help as much as I could, I was greatly hindered by my efforts to protect my precious egg. Still, the group proved too much for the mysterians, and they retreated.

Tired, but pleased with our victory, we made our way down the mountain and set up camp at the base to recover. The next day, we contintued on and came to a bridge protected by a fierce giant. We were force to choose one of three doors to contiue on. Lucky me, I got the door into a cell that locked as soon as I entered.

Enclosed places are bad for me... I'm a creature of the sky, and being trapped is one of my greatest fears. I'm ashamed to admit that I reacted badly, and the only thing that kept me from losing it entirely was my dear little Kohaku. Her sweet singing brought be back, and kept me calm as I worked the lock on the door. Finally free again, I emerged from the cell just in time to join the fight against the Witch and Zombie, who'd decided to attack again.

This time, though I was once again hampered by holding Kohaku's egg, we managed to defeate the Mysterians once again. Sian herself managed to escape her captors, and joined us. The defeated Mysertians returned to egg stage.

I was ecstatic that Sian was safe again, and more than ready to go home. It was a wonderful expirince, this adventure into the land of the Mysterians. I'd like to visit the mirror world again sometime... but hopefully under better circumstances...

Good morning, Beautiful...

Soft singing worked its way into the sleeping mind of the blue skinned woman, known as Dragonz, or Blue. It permiated her dream, subtly changing it to one of light and color, it she could hardly tell what was waking and what was a dream. Black lashes fluttered on smooth cheeks, then slowly parted. Blue eyes still hazed with sleep and the memory of dreams slowly focused on a pair of golden amber eyes meer inches away.

Dragonz blinked once, and the rest of the scene came into to focus. A little girl with amber colored hair and eyes lay on the bed near her head, the little golden head propped on her hands as she lay on her stomach. The singing originated from this figure as she happily kicked her feet behind her, those large eyes shining. The hybrid lay quietly, soothed by the enchanting music. Still in the grip of sleep, it never occured to her to wonder where this sweet child had come from until she reached for her precious Kohaku's egg, wanting to share the song with her.

When the reaching blue hand met nothing but air at her side where the egg usually lay, she came to full conscousness with a start. "Kohaku?" Dragonz called out, jerking up to sit in her bed. White wings fluttering, the child bounced to her feet, bubbling with laughter.

"I'm right here, Mommy!" She giggled, clasping her hands infront of her. Small tassles swung at her ears, and soft white robes floated around her little body like clouds. Dragonz stared for a moment, dumbfounded. It took a moment for the gears to start turning in her head, and for 1 & 1 to become 2. When it finally did, the half-dragon laughed with joy, tears standing out in her deep blue eyes as she gathered her new daughter into her arms.

On the table by the bed was a small pile of egg fragments, staked neatly by a child's hands. A small voice lifted again in song, drifting out the open window and down into the kitchen. Rafael lifted her head from where she was making breakfast, a smile on her lips as she swished her tail. Today was going to be a good day, it seemed, She thought.

~Kohaku's Journal~

Rae has been teaching me how to read and write! Its soooo hard, but now I get to write in Mommy's journal!

Rae is helping me to write this. She fixes some of the words, since I don't spell so good yet.

Today, I got up and went outside to sing with my bird friends till Rae woke up and made me and Mommy breakfast. I don't like the eggs and bread and stuff that Mommy eats, so Rae makes me warm milk with some honey in it. Its very yummy.

Then I went and played with Kai and Twilight. Twilight is Kai's baby, but not like I'm Mommy's baby. I don't understand all that yet, but Rae says I will when I get older. I like Rae, she always answers my questions, no matter how many I ask. And she plays with me when Mommy is away.

I don't know where Mommy goes, but she says that its for her shop, the one that's part of our house. I'm not allowed to touch anything on the counter or in the cupboards. Rae got upset when she found me playing with one of those pretty cups, and when she told Mommy, they both scolded me. I cried, but I promised I wouldn't play with Mommy's things again. I don't know why I'm not allowed, but I've been a good girl, and not touched anything again.

The sun is so pretty today, and the trees say they want me to come play, so I'm putting away my journal for today. I'll write again soon. Bye!

A moment to mourn an ending...

Soft sobbing came from the room that belonged to the woman, Dragonz. Kohaku slipped up to the door and slowly pushed it open a crack, her amber eyes large and solemn in her little face. Her wings trembled, she knew something was wrong.

Inside the room, Dragonz sat on her bed, her knees pulled up to her chest with her arms wrapped around them and her face hidden against them. The sobs came from her.

"Mommy?" Kohaku tentatively called, pushing the door open a few more inches. "Mommy, what's wrong?" Dragonz raised her head, her face streaked with the trails of tears. She sniffled and rubbed her face with her palms, letting her knees fall to the side. Kohaku ran inside, the little angel climbing clumsily onto the bed and her guardian's lap. The half dragon chuckled softly, hugging her close.

"I'm just a little sad, love. It'll go away soon, don't worry." She stroked her hair, then kissed the angel's forhead.

"But Mommy... what are you sad about?" Kohaku, her eyes still large and curious. She reached up little hands to stroke the hybrid's face.

"Well, see... Mommy's special friend Darien, he's been having problems in his life. To make it easier for him, Mommy is just going to be normal friends with him. She wants him to be happy, but it makes her sad that they won't be special friends anymore. That's all." Dragonz stroked Kohaku's hair, summoning a weak smile to her teary face.

Kohaku puffed up, fluttering her wings as she climbed to her feet and wrapped her short arms around her guardian's neck. "I'll be your special friend, Mommy. Then you won't have to be sad anymore!" Her innocent words brought a water chuckle from her guardian.

"Thank you, love."

Kohaku makes a picture...

The colors of the rainbow lay spread out acrossed the floor in the form of bright crayons scattered over piles of snow white paper. Plopped right in the middle of it sat a little creature in white and gold, with soft feathery wings. Kokahu sang softly to herself as she colored, drawing lines and squiggles that were less a picture and more pure emotion.

Her smile was beautific as she put down her last crayon and climbed to her feet, new picture clutched in her small hand. Bare little feet patted the floor softly as she dashed into the kitchen where her guardian lounged on the window sill, her won sketchbook across her lap.

"Mommy! Mommy! Look!" Kohaku waved the picture, coming to a breathless hault next to Dragonz. "I made it for you!"

Dragonz, also called Blue, smiled and pulled her 'daughter' into her lap, placeing her sketchbook to the side. Bright blue eyes took in all the details of the novice artist's picture. "Oh, its lovely! Is that me and Rae?"

Kohaku giggled and nodded. "And there is Kai and Twilight... and that down in the corner is a bug!"

Dragonz laughed, nuzzling the angel's soft cheek. "Why is there a bug on your picture, love?"

"'Cause I like to draw bugs, mommy." Kokahu said, her eyes grave. "Buggies are pretty!"

Dragonz could only laugh at the innocent statement, and the simple logic of it all. "They are indeed, love. Very pretty, just like my little Kohaku."

The half-dragon nuzzled the angel as both disolved into giggle in the warm sunlight, the picture between them.

~Dragonz's Journal~

Well, another birthday come and gone, another year gone by. Normally my birthdays are rather uneventful, and often times are past before I even notice they've arrived. Can you blame me though? The dragon half of my heritage has given me a very long life span and this year marked the end of my second century of life.

Some of you may think me old, but truly, I'm just getting into my prime as dragons go. After all, my own mother was a good five centuries old when she met my father. Ah, my poor father... His life was barely a drop in ocean of years my mother possesses. I miss him greatly, even now.

But I'm rambling. I'm truly writting to remark on this year's birthday. Not only was it unique for being my 200th year, but it is also the first year in a long time that I've celebrated it. And my little 'family' being there only made it better.

Kohaku had such a fun time helping Rae to decorate the kitchen and make little sweet stuffs to eat. On Rae's insistance, after speaking with other people about what a birthday party should be like, we all dressed up in our best clothes. Kohaku made me a paper crown to wear, and just to see her laugh, I wore it the entire day.

There were games and music, laughter and singing, and more fun than I've had in longer than I can remember. Kohaku had so much fun, it might as well have been her birthday, not mine. There were presents from Rae and Kohaku, of course, but a few of our friends from the village were kind enough to send some gifts up to the cottage, in the form of food, drink, and useful things.

Rae gave me wonderful set of silver earings, aquamarine drops dangling from them. Kohaku gave me a fist full of flowers (that she had to have Aramina pick for her since the poor little thing can't stand to hurt anything, even plants) and a colorful crayon picture of a tree that grows rainbow colored fruit. She says she's dreamed about that tree, and that the fruit makes people happy. She drew the picture in the hopes of making me happy when I see it.

All in all, it was the best birthday party I've ever had in all my long life. I'm more fortunate than anyone in the world for such a wonderful family.

~Kohaku's Journal~

Oh, I'm so excited!

Mommy gave me this new book, the one I'm writting in now, to put all my journal entries in. Its so pretty, with the little gold sun on the cover, and all the orange and yellow swirly things. Its also a very magical book. I wonder if I'm supposed to be able to feel the magic coming from it? I don't think Mommy knows that I can, but I really can.

I showed Rae this book, and she thought it was very pretty. She even gave me a new pen to write with! I don't know where she got it, but its got a little sun on a spring on the end, and the pen itself has the same colors as my book. I don't think it came with this book, but I still love it. It writes so well!

Oh, I almost forgot, I was going to write something about Mommy's birthday party. Well, it was so much fun! I've never been to a birthday party before, so this was my very first. I didn't even know what a birthday was, till Rae explained it to me. We made a big cake, and there was ice cream, and cookies, and lots of games! I only had some ice cream, but Mommy really seemed to enjoy all the food we made for her. She even loved my present!

I felt kinda bad having Aramina pick the poor little flowers for me. I wanted to myself, but I just can't stand listening to the stems breaking, and the way the poor little things scream in pain. I don't think Mommy or Rae knows that I can hear the plants speaking too. That's why I can't pick flowers, or even walk to hard on the grass. I prefer to fly anyway.

The apple trees by our house sing the most lovely songs, and I can see them right through the window of my bedroom. The new windchime that Mommy gave me makes the sweetest sound, and sometimes I sing along with it and the apple trees. It so much fun!

Oh my, it looks like I've filled up a whole page! I'm going to have to learn to write smaller, I guess. Well, bye bye, new Journal. I'll come write in you again later.

Time for a little play...

Dragonz, called more often Blue now than Dragonz, sighed as she fingered the journal by her bed side. She really should write in it more, she had more than enough to write about after all, but... well the dragoness had just never really been much of a journal keeper. All her attempts as a child had never made it past a new pages. Story of her life, she guessed. Things half done, put aside and forgotten. With a sigh, she pushed the journal way irritably and rose to exit her room. So what if she couldn't keep a decent journal? There were more important things in life than recording it. And one of those things waited downstairs for her.

Kohaku laughed as she rolled her brightly painted glass eggs acrossed the floor, delighting in how the sun light sparkled off the designs. "Mommy!" She cried, bouncing up to rush over to her draconic guardian to hold up two eggs that barely fit in her small hands. "I named this one Sara, and this one Tony!" She giggled, clutching the eggs to her chest. Blue laughed, ruffling that soft golden hair.

"They have names now? Well, lets put Sara, Tony, and all their friends back in their basket so we can go outside and play. They'll get broken if we take them with." Kohaku pouted for a moment, then brightened. Her small white wings fluttered as she danced from foot to foot, her face nearly glowing with excitement.

"Can I ride Zion?" She chirped, nearly leaving the ground as she flapped her wings vigorously. "I almost got him to trot the other day! If I keep trying, I know I can do it!" Blue laughed softly, stowing the basket of eggs off to the side before she scooped the little angel up in her arms and headed out the back door.

"Well, I don't see why not, if its okay with Zion." She chuckled, bouncing Kohaku on her hip. The pair disappeared into the shed where a black chocobo waited excitedly to be taken out for some play time.

~Dragonz's Journal~

Well I've done it again! You'd think, after the first time, that I'd have learned my lesson? But no. I have to go and make the same mistake all over again, but far worse than before. Some flaw in character? Guess we'll find out.

Yes, I have a new mate now. Not like I intended to have another, after that heartache with Darien. I really shied away from relationships after that, but I guess I didn't shy hard enough. His name is Kyramen, or David, and I love him so much it hurts. Oh, and it does hurt in that most wonderful way. I've just kind of thrown up my hands over it. What happens, happens. I'll worry about the heartbreak when I loose him later.

And I know, I might be suprised and this actually works out, but I'm not going to count on it. Just enjoy it while it lasts, that's all I can do.

Anway! While my love trouble are surely entertaining, I should be talking about Kohaku. With summer coming on, she's getting more and more rambuncious and eager to be outside in the sunlight. No wonder, since angels feed off sunlight and clean air. Spring has seen her blooming like a little golden flower. Her wings are strengthening, and she can glide for short distances now. All my pets and companions adore her, and she's well guarded against mishaps with so many loving 'nannies'. I'm wondering if I shouldn't find a little playmate for her, something that isn't a good deal older than her. Twilight is an ok companion and playmate, but there is only so much the little sunchild can do. I'll have to keep my eyes peeled.

~Kohaku's Journal~

I love the sun! Love it so much! Its warm and bright, and yummy!

I told Rae that one day, and she laughed and patted my head. I don't understand... Why do Mommy and Rae eat food, but it makes me sick? How come they don't get ful by sitting in a beam of sunlight? Just another mystery, I suppose. I won't be asking about that anytime soon, after the last time I tried to ask about the things that make me and Mommy different. And I can't even start to understand what makes Rae different from me and Mommy.

I got to sing with the birds today! Its so much fun having something that can sing with me. Mommy and Rae get buisy sometimes, but the birds will sing with me anytime I want! I like to fly up to the top of the Oak tree to sit and sing with them. Though... I suppose that's kind of a lie. I really climbed, but I used my wings to help me. So its not really a lie, or just a tiny one. They're getting stronger every day. I can tell because I can fly a little farther each time I try.

Oh, Mommy wrote an entry about her new boyfriend. I saw it before she put away her journal from the shop. I havn't gotten to meet him yet, though I've asked. She just smiles and shakes her head. She said she doesn't want me to meet him till she's sure he'll be around more than the last one. She seems happier now though. She was so sad when she broke up with Dar, its nice to see her happy and smiling again. I think its funny. She giggles a lot, something she didn't do before. Sometimes I giggle to, and we just sit and giggle and laugh together. Its fun! So I guess I'm happy she met David.

Well, I think that's enough for now. Bye Journal!
