"I'm not dumb, Lily," he said, cocking his own. "I just need a little push to do things, mostly because I get bored without a challenge. It's Peter that he really has to give extra 'help' to. Though, it doesn't sit right with his conscience if he lets Peter copy. Moony's a downright good fellow."

As if sensing someone was talking about him, Remus came downstairs from the dormitory blearily, scratching his head and sending sandy brown locks in every direction. He squinted his eyes at Sirius and Lily. "What're you two doing up so late?" he asked. "And why isn't James down here slobbering on you, Lils?" he added. He really was fond of Lily, being obligated to be as she had been his first real friend, but also found it a little amusing when James got up to his antics with her.

"I'm not doing anything inappropriate to her, I sware!" Sirius chuckled, raising his hands in the air for Moony to see.

Remus chuckled lightly as he crossed the common room before hitting Sirius across the back of his head. "I know that, stupid," he laughed, sitting beside his friends. "What other shenanigans are we up to at this hour?"

"I think the real question is, Moony, what are you doing up at this hour?" Sirius said with a sly smile.

Remus smiled uneasily. "I just couldn't sleep, is all." He'd gotten a concerning letter from his Dad. His mother had come home again. He knew that Padfoot would understand his resentment towards his mother, but it wasn't something he fancied talking about in front of Lily. He had to have a little masculine pride, after all.

Sirius was somehow disconcerted with Moony's answer. By the look on his face, there was more to it than 'just couldn't sleep'. But, he shrugged this feeling off, knowing that he wasn't fond of sharing stuff with people other than the marauders.
"Alright, mate. Come n' sit with me and Lilyflower, here."

Remus smiled genuinely now. "Well, if you insist!" he said cheerily, striding forward a purposefully sitting on top of Sirius.

Sirius grunted and shifted. "Ho... Moony, you're heavier than you look!"

Remus smirked and fought a laugh. "I'm still not as heavy as you, fatty," he replied without thought.

"Me? I'm not fat! I'm gracefully lanky." Sirius smirked and continued. "You think all 'the ladies' would like a fatty? I think not."

Remus sighed, accompanied by a roll of his eyes. "Fine, stupid, Fatty was an exaggeration. You're broad and boxy, so you're Brodoxy. Happy now?" he asked, finally getting off his friend's lap and sitting on the arm of the couch beside Sirius.

"Come now Sirius, I know I'm a fox, but you should compliment yourself now and then!" Remus joked, acting as if the adjectives had been meant for him, and pretending to fawn over his hair the same way the animagus usually did in the mornings.

"Are you mocking me?" Sirius asked, pretending to be extremely offended. "I do not act like that," He finished lamely with a pout.
