Nenharma watched the communication, now cleaning her hatchet in the river. She eyed the stallion as well as Scarlet's reactions to whatever he was saying.
Scarlet jumped up and smiled. "Really! Oh, whatever she or he's named they are going to be so pretty! I love blue!" she nuzzled the basket. Her ear flew forward when Nenmarha began to speak.
"You'll have to excuse her," she said in her usually smooth and deep voice, "but she loves foals. She can't help herself really." She smiled at her mare and went on sharpening her tools. "I don't know if you can inderstand me but know this. If she comes to me crying again you will pay a heavy price."

Qin glared at the twolegger, he heard the threat in her words. His ears flicked back against his head and he raised one lip in a snarl. Turning his back he picked up the basket and walked back to the meadow. He set it down and nuzzled it lovingly. He felt it tremble a little. He smiled, the foal was anxious to come into the outside world.
Looking back toward the river he saw the little usdia and the strange twolegger. He rolled his eyes as the little usdia was jumping up and down with excitement. Sure, Hsien would have probably wanted him to pick a more traditional name for the foal, but Qin rather liked the names Martin and Marty. They sounded...rebelious.

Scarlet bounced over to Qin and beamed at him with her ever endearing lopsided grin. "So, what's your name? I'm Scarlet... or did I say that... I can't remember..." Scarlet shurgged and nuzzled the basket. "Do you know when the baby is going to come out and play?" She looked up at Qin with wonderous eyes and grinned again. "I hope soon..."

Qin looked proudly down at the basket, but stuck his nose closer when he heard a rustle from inside. His eyes opened wide, and he said, "It-It's comming out!" He stared hard at the basket, watching it shake and wriggle, as slowly, the lid was pushed off.
The little colt didn't want to come out of his nice cozy basket, it was warm. he had felt a slight chill as the wind crept in though small cracks in between the tightly woven reeds. He had eaten all the food, and wanted to find more. Shoving his elegant little head up into the basket's lid, he knocked it off and scrambled up into the world. His long little legs scrambled for a foothold, as they were being used for the first time. He fell to the ground in a heap.
Qin looked lovingly at his child, it was a colt! He nuzzled the newborn's little blue coat, and gently nudged him up to his feet. The little creature was shivering, so Qin pulled off his robe and gently set it upon his son's back. The colt's shivering quickly subsided.
The little colt snuggled hard into the coat, and looked up into the eyes of the big white creature. He said, "Jou is big! Is jou my daddy?" He already knew this instinctivly, but wanted to make sure. The big white creature nodded his head, and the little colt smiled happily. He said, "Daddy, jou is big!"

Scarlet was just thilled as pie that the little one came out to play. she bounded over to him and immidiatly started talking. "You came out! Oh, I'm so happy! Now we can be friends and do friends things!" She praced in place as she fought to contain her enthusiasm. "I'm so happy you came out Martin! Oh, and your daddy is so nice! I can't wait to do lots of fun things with you! I'mm gonna teach you to play tag, and hide and seek, and chase butterflies, and even which flower make you sneeze!" The sad part was she was totally serious about the last part.

The little colt perked his ears playfully, and his little tail swished happily. "Jou is small!!! Jou is my size!!! I like Jou!!!" He shot out from underneith the coat and barreled into the usdia, he said, "My name is Martin? You called me Martin! Daddy! My name is Martin! Isn't that a nice name!" He turned back to the little usdia and said, "Fwowers!? I don't like flowers, or, at least, I don't think I do." His little brow furrowed, and his eyes narrowed in thought. He decided thinking was too much effort, and said inquisitivly, "What's a butterfly?"
Qin shook his head and smiled ruefully, and said to his son, "Yes, your name is Martin" He nuzzled his foal, and said in a fatherly voice, "Keep the coat on, if you catch a chill your mother will not be happy with me." He winked, and dragged his coat back onto his son.

"Flowers are pretty! You'll like them, I know it! And butterflies are delightful little things. You chase them and the game is to catch them but not squish them. You just touch them and if you do you win! If you don't the butterfly wins." She nodded and looked at Qin. "I'm small because I'm a different breed of Soquili, I'm an Usdia, they're all small. And Qin's right, keep the coat on or you'll get sick, and that's not fun!"

Martin's eyes grew wide as Scarlet talked. When he was done, he figeted and said, "I wana chase bwutterflies now! Where is da bwutterfly?" He starts to look around, swinging his head this way and that. A curious expression appeared on his face when he saw there were no butterflies to be seen. He asked, "Why aren't there any out?" He ploped down on his haunches, a rather akward position, and pricked his ears forward.
Qin laughed, and said, "Silly, its winter. Thats why there's snow. Butterflies don't like the snow, but come spring there will be many about." He smiled and chuckled again, before reaching down and tugging the coat back over Martin's shoulders. He felt so proud as his son looked up at him with those big curious eyes, it made him feel, important.

"That's right! But some come out in winter. Those ones are easy to catch. The real fun begins when spring comes and they're all over and you have to catch them all! I have never lost one!" She strutted a little and smirked. It wasn't entirly true, but what the hey, what's a white lie here and there? She trotted back over to Martin and asked, "What'dya wanna do?"

Martin looked curiously at this little usdia. Catching butterflies sounded like lots of fun, but since it was winter, he couldn't. His ears drooped a little, but perked back up when he heard her ask what he wanted to do. He thought carefully, then said, "Well, what can we do? It being winter and all." He pawed at the ground, excitement creeping into his little slurred voice.
Qin smiled, he knew that Martin would be in safe hands with Scarlet. He figured that the little usdia would even challange a Kalona for his child. He looked back at Martin and said, "Well I guess I'll leave you to it then, but Martin, make sure you keep that coat on." He shot a baleful glance at his son, then smiled and trotted off.

"We could... umm... I dunno... We could go ice skating!" Scarlet pranced in place a little and beamed. "It's really easy and fun when you know how! You'll love it." Qin was right about that, Scarlet would definatly be protective of her new friend. No one would hurt him.

Martin nodded entheusastically, ice skating did sound like fun! He bounced around his tail swishing with excitement. He stopped for a second, cocked his head curiously, and asked, "What is ice skating?"
