Earthkit thought for a moment. "Umm...what did you do when you were an apprentice? Was it hard?"
She puffed her chest fur out proudly. "Do you think Fernstar and Mothstar will let me be an apprentice soon? I'm excited!"

"I'm sure they will!" She mewed. "When I was an apprentice well I had to train really hard is all. The truth is, I wasn't the best apprentice a warrior could ask for." She mewed remembering her mistake that caused the death of her mother.

Earthkit tilted her head to the side. "I bet you were a great apprentice! You're really nice!" She couldn't think of any reason why Fernpelt could have done anything wrong.
She happily bounced around. "I'll be the best apprentice ever and work really hard, Fernpelt!" she mewed cheerfully.

"Thanks." Fernpelt mewed. The thought of her mother kept coming back to her. "And I'm sure you'll be a great apprentice!" She purred in delight.

"Thanks! I can't wait!" she announced. A leaf on the ground caught her attention, and she quickly pounced toward it, causing it to fly above her head. The sun was getting lower in the sky, but Earthkit didn't want to show her drowziness. She ran toward the leaf above her, she stopped when it dropped into the water.

Fernpelt let out a slow purr as she watched the young kit, when she noticed the sun. "It's getting late." She mewed. "Lets go back before it gets too dark." She slowly led Earthkit back to camp and then let her go into the nuresy. She couldn't wait until Earthkit became an apprentice.

"I'm not tired," Earthkit protested as she was gently nudged into the nursery. She lightly curled up near the other kits and looked back up at Fernpelt. "You won't forget to ask, will you? As soon as the others wake up i'm telling them that I want you to be my mentor." She put her head down by her paws. "Oh thank you for taking me around camp Fernpelt!" she mewed before closing her eyes.

"Your welcome, and I won't." She purred softly before leaving. Would Earthkit still look up to her like that if she knew her secret?
