Just today, I was reading in lunch. My one friend had apparently been whispering creepy things to me, very close to my ear for a few minutes. I looked up and asked, "May I help you?" A few of my friends were giggling about it. Ah, the powers of tuning out.
hah that sounds familiar.

My younger brother, who is an athlete, always bugs me when I'm reading in the living room. He just can't get it through his head that different people have different hobbies. I keep trying to explain that to him so he'll be more respectful to people who aren't jocks, but he's young and unable to comprehend. Oh, to be young and stupid again. I usually just reiterate that I like to read and he leaves me alone. Sometimes though he snatches my book and makes me lose my spot. Then I snarl at him.

I try to ignore people when I'm reading, but sometimes it just doesn't work. Luckily I always have hard-bakced book on hand. If you catch my drift. twisted

I used to have that prolem when I was in high school, but once I perfected the "I hate you, go away and let me read" glare, it stoppe within a few days.

Then there was the gym teacher who told me that it was impossible to read while walking a mile. Not only did I do it, but my time while reading was quicker than not.

It's annoying as hell when I'm reading and people asking me what I'm reading, what it's about, and if it's any good. I've given up explaining the book. I need to try that glare. It will help to scare my friends away. sweatdrop

The whole "what are you reading" thing doesn't bother me too much. Usually, I just lift my book up so that whoever asked can see the spine. I just don't like it when people try to start talking to me while I'm reading about...random crap. Not to say I'm not a social person, but when I'm reading...*gah!*

I used to have a summer job at a factory-type place, where everyone had to take breaks at the same time. I always got funny looks when I pulled out a paperback, because they all wanted to waste time asking me about my personal life (like I wanted to share!).

One really nice thing about my current job--there could be half a dozen folks taking a break at the same time, and we're all reading different things. smile

I'm pretty good at ignoring conversations around me. But for some reason I can't ignore someone who asks me what I'm reading. neutral I need to perfect my "leave me alone I'm reading" glare. 3nodding

People used to bother me a lot more while I was reading when I was little. I think it's because all the other little girls at my Sunday school'd be talking about Backstreet Boys, and I'd be reading. I used to get really ticked off and try and hit them, but they'd just laugh. People were mean.

Now, most people just ignore me all the time, so I don't usually get bothered when I'm reading. Occasionaly, someone will try and bother me, but I just pretend they don't exist until they go away, unless it's someone I genuinely like.

-_- My dad does that all the time. Either he asks what I'm reading or he tries to hold out a conversation even though I'm deeply engrossed in the plot of a story. It annoys my mother and me to no end.

I hate it when that happens. I try not to bother other people when they're reading, so I expect the same courtesy back. But noooo, they just have to bother me with inane questions until I ignore them for about five minutes and they take the hint and leave. When you see a book in front of me, that's a giant DO-NOT-DISTURB sign.

The worst is when you're sitting and reading and someone is looking over your shoulder. They're not even bothering to read; they're just hanging over your shoulder just to look at the damn book! It's so irritating because you can hear their breathing and feel them pressing waaaaa~y into your personal space!
I hate it and I end up looking like I want to kill for the rest of the day.

When people do bug me (which isn't often), I fwap them with said book. It has earned amusing reactions.

I HATE WHEN THEY DO THAT.

Plus, my family does it like.. every single day. Sometimes my mom is like, "Dinner!" right when I'm reading the most important part of the climax. ITS SO ANNOYING.

Luckily now I have learned to tune people out, but if they tap me or pull on me, I know they are there. >.>

Most the time i lock my door and when some knocks i either pretend to sleep or yell "go away i'm reading."(most the time it's works but sometimes i miss dinner in the process.)At school I use the Go away i'm reading glare, and if that doean't work i tell them books can be used as wepons to.(I carry around 400-600 page books)

Oh my God, I hate those people!!!!There used to be one boy in my science class who would grab my book and start reading it out loud (that was when I started carrying thick hardback books twisted ). I am okay at tuning out other people, but if I hear a random part of a conversation, I automatically incorporate it into what I'm reading and end up processing something completely different from the actual text!!!!!! AAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!! scream
