"And you would have missed all this because of it!" If he'd just walked away he would have missed out on having Mommy with him and he would have missed out on her and her siblings. She just couldn't understand why he would be willing to take a chance like that.
She just wanted to be able to talk to her friend and she wanted to know that her parents were happy that she'd made a friend.

He was willing to take that chance only because of what he had lost before. He would have given up anything to spare himself what he had gone through before; to spare any others what he went through. "You just don't understand...." He wouldn't understand. He was too stubborn and hard headed when it came to things like that. That's why she hadn't wanted her sister to tell daddy anything. She hadn't wanted him to find out so that he couldn't chase her friend off.
She shook her mane into her face to hide her eyes as she turned back toward home. "I...i-i'm going home"

He did understand. He knew just what it meant to make friends and form bonds; to get close to others. He wanted his children to make friends, wanted it badly, but not at the risk of their lives. There were some things that he was not willing to sacrafice.
