Gwyn pressed her lips together, reminding herself that it was the boy's first real lesson. "I'm glad to see that you were concentrating hard enough that you didn't hear me coming, but you should be so focused it would take more than a tap on the shoulder to get your notice," the woman ground out. "Try again. Take a look at Halycon, he's had more practice at meditation."

Nate frowned at the teacher's scolding. This was hard! And she was being mean to him! Nate's lower lip quivered as he nodded and closed his eyes again to try and focus on the ice cube again. Unfortunately, his emotions were going wild and more heat was radiating outwards from his body instead of less.

Nate breathed in and out several times, deeply, to try and calm himself down.

Halcyon glances at the teacher, "I've also been learning meditation from a Dark Elf who's a trained sniper...I think I might have a slight advantage." he takes a final deep breath and returns to focusing on the crystal statue, refining the details on Talner.

"Which is all the more why he should look at how you are doing," Gwyn replied dryly glancing at Halycon. "Practice is how you improve. As long as you have someone to show you what your doing right, and what your doing wrong."

Gwyn winced a little as the heat. "Concentrate," she added sharply.

Talner

Nate's lip quivered as the teacher critisized him. He was trying. It wasn't easy! He wished it was as easy as the woman made it seem... The boy had just tried to put his mind back into the frame of concentrating when Gwyn snapped at him.

The poor boy lost all control at that, bursting into tears that evaporated almost as quickly as they were formed as a heat wave pushed its way through the room, quickly heating the classroom to the temperature of an oven.

Talner could feel the heat wave escape from under the door and he cracked open the door to see what had happened. The overwhelming heat from the room made him recoil and he hesitated. Things were not going well at all if it was this hot in there. Plus, Nathaniel was sobbing his little heart out in the middle of the room.

Halcyon stood up and sat down in front of Nate, setting the crystal statue of him before the comet boy, "Look at this, focus on this alone. It'll help. When you can learn to focus on one thing and block everything else out. Nothing matters but the statue okay?"

Nate continued to sob for a while longer, inwardly cursing his own ability to control himself and his emotions. He'd never learn to control his power if he couldn't even control his emotions! He was just stupid. That was it. Stupid, stupid, stupid. No wonder his mother had left him!

As these thoughts ran through the boy's mind, his body continued to radiate heat outwards, though the boy paid little attention to it. His own body immune to the extreme heat, Nate cried his little heart out, his inward cursing and belittling drowning out any other sounds. If he'd had the control over his legs to, he'd just run out of the classroom and never return!

Halcyon was hesitant and then watched his hands as he formed very crude crystalline gloves to protect his hands from the heat. He gave out a short breath and shook Nate, "Hey! Chin up and calm down! Crying isn't going to help. If you cry you'll just become depressed and frustrated. Take a deep breath and try again! It takes practice and lots and lots of it to do what we can do. So keep at it and you'll have complete control eventually!"

Yea, that teacher was useless, she was just letting the kid blame himself and throw a fit and they were the adult.

Gwyn had her eyes closed, concentrating. Her hands moved in slow precise patterns when finally a large globe of ice water splashed down on Nate.

The woman opened her eyes and glared at the comet scroll. "That is enough," she croaked, "You are not a child to be throwing a tantrum."

Unfortuantely, Hal's shaking and yelling only scared Nate more, causing him to move his hands up and cover his ears as he continued to sob. The ice water that dropped upon the boy caused him to gasp in shock, the water evaporating into steam quickly, then more slowly as the boy was shocked out of producing heat.

Nate managed to shakily raise one arm up and wiped away the crusted salt from under his eyes. The boy stared at the floor, not wanting to look up into his teacher's eyes. He was sure they'd be full of her disapproval of him.

Halcyon sat back and glances down at the charring on the crystal gloves he made, the forms absorbing back into his hands, they were roughly made but worked at least. With a nod to the teacher he sits back down and returns to working on the crystal Talner he was making with the new inspiration. He aged the form, working on it, the Talner in the statue was a man now, wreathed in flames that were shaped and controlled.

"That's better," the woman said crisply. Glancing at Halycon's work, Gwyn nodded, focusing back on the more...dangerous... of the two, at least at the moment. "See how you're radiating less heat? Even though I'm sure you're still as upset as earlier, none of us are getting crisped," Gwyn added tartly.

Nate could feel Gwyn's disapproval radiating off of her like heat radiated off of his own body. Managing to take a deep breath without bursting into tears again, the boy slowly nodded. He'd try this meditating thing again. He closed his eyes and tried not to think of the mean teacher and the other boy and how he'd almost baked them to a crisp, but on the ice cube he'd been thinking of originally.
