Well, having dinged 70 on my shaman just a month ago, Season 1 gear is great.
I think putting s1 for honor was a good idea, it gives fresh 70s something to start out with in arena so they don't have to use kara epics or something. It's not really an easy honor grind, and s3 is a lot better anyway.
What they should do is slap a personal rating req on every peice of s3 gear, and a lower personal rating req on s2 gear.
Oh, and I would never use the stuff for pve gear. My shaman isn't even kara attuned.

I agree with a lot of the other posters. I do not think it ruined anything.
After all, season 3 is still better, and season 1 still takes a while to get. As someone else said, it takes quite a bit longer than a week to get full season 1 unless you have no job and do pretty much nothing other than battlegrounds that entire week.
I think making season 1 gear easier to get is a great idea. It lets people get decent pieces at their own pace, even if they don't have the people to run 5 mans, arena, or Kara with. I did a lot of PvP with my shadow priest when she turned 70 so that she wouldn't have to go into Kara and arena with greens. At the time, we didn't have too many other 70s in the guild, so we weren't really running anything. That was before season 1 was available on the PvP vendors, but I think the idea is the same.
Some people don't like the idea of using PvP gear for PvE, but all we're running right now is Kara, and my PvP gear is better than a lot of what drops in Kara. It has enough damage and healing to suit my needs, and the stamina comes in handy for Aran or when I act as "soaker" on Curator.

The funny thing is that on my server there are many close Kara group. these people basic requirement are at LEAST 3 purple item of level 70 quality. Now what are my options if S1 isn't there?
Crafting and instance run, but I can't do instance run if they (kara group) won't let me in. Lots of normal instance run doesn't yield purple items AND worst of some of the crafting require some serious mat farming.
So I still don't think S1 in BG reward is bad. Bliz split them up so people would have to farm ALL FOUR battleground to get all the pieces.
trying to do WSG at level 70....... you wish you would go arena instead wink
