Baka padded along behind him, her white feather dangling from her jaws. She noticed that he was older than she and his markings where cool. They were unusual but she liked them... she thought they sort of looked like the sky when the sun came up... when the light was all swirled around the clouds. Impressed by her similie... she smiled and pranced beside him now. Wow... There is a cave too...
She shook herself so violently that her feather just about flew from her mouth, but she succeeded in snapping it back into her teeth. She pranced into the cave, her head held high-tail wagging, smiling so big her eyes were shut. A nice warm place... she loved being warm and dry. She then pounced deeper into the cave, and turned to face Mzaa. She put the feather down at the side of the cave to dry... it had gotten wet again. It's perfect... nice and cozy and we can both fit in here... just like you said... She said, her head cocking as she sat down to start to lick the water drops from her black fur

"Yeah, it's a nice cave, isn't it? I knew it was around here somewhere! When you've taken as many steps as I have, you start to remember the lay of the land," Mzaa told her with a smile. This cave didn't hold any particular importance other than the fact that it was relatively large and was dry. It was, really, quite amazing that the old wolf still knew where it was. He first found it a couple of years ago and had used it as a shelter from the rain. Only he was a bit more tattered then- the wolf (in his prime, at that time) had been attacked for a kill and had taken a good deal of blows from a lion. Most of the scars were hidden by fur, but some remained visible, if one was looking for it.
"At least it's good and dry in here," he said, being wary for her feather. He didn't want her to lose it, she seemed to like it so much. If a gust came in... the feather would go flying. Well, he thought it would. It was kinda wet, which would mean that it was heavy, but still, the possibility was there. He said nothing on the topic, though.

Baka began to lick her front legs and toes of the water that had seeped to her skin. She gazed up at him and smiled, rolling onto her back and wriggling back and forth wildly, her black and white feet flailing in her attempt to get dry. She rubbed the back of her head against the ground, her eyes shut in her pleasure. She then sat up, shaking the dust from her fur. She stopped, scratched behind her ear and then sat with her back toes wiggling. She gazed at him for a moment, her eyes running over her new friends fur.
How'd you get so many owies? She asked, cocking her head to the side and standing up... padding over to his shoulder and gazing at them. She had never really experienced anything that would result in scars-so she was not familiar with the concept.

Mzaa's face turned to one of conflict- he wasn't sure what to do. He didn't like delving into his past... especially not that point in his life. Still, he didn't want to come off as rude, as he did with most. "I had a kill and a lion came after me to steal it. I lost it in the end, a wolf is no match for something that big, and I wasn't going to go down over a meal," he said, glancing away for a moment. He had been out that night... chasing after his daughter, but that wouldn't be revealed to anyone. A flicker of pain crossed the old wolf's eyes, the thought of the memory, but he was quick to cover it up. That was then- there's nothing he could do about the past. "If a lion comes for your kill, ever, let it have it. There's enough food on the savannah for you to catch another meal, and it's not worth dying over." He said wisely. There were plenty of friendly lions who would share a kill, but there were also those who wouldn't.
He felt a pang of caring- he hoped she wouldn't ever have to face a lion, it was a terrifying event.

Baka wasn't sure if her question was a bad one or not. He reacted like he didn't want to talk about it and she regretted asking. She still pushed foreward before thinking-like a pup. She scolded herself on the inside. She gaze down at her white feather and stood, grabbing it in her mouth and shoving the hard quill into the ground, so that the feather was sticking straight up. Now it had a bit more ground. Ow...
I've never really met any lions... I am mostly kept to myself... That and I am not good at killing anything really big... mostly bugs and mice and stuff... So if a lion wants my small food that badly... they can have it..
I've never really gotten hurt... I'm real careful about that... cause when you are alone... getting hurt is bad news

"It is dangerous, to get hurt. Not all lions are bad, but the ones that are are very dangerous. They're pretty easy to separate from friendly ones with instincts. Just trust your feelings." Mzaa said in a more normal tone. The discomfort of discussing the past was gone. The old wolf lay down along one side of the cave with a broad yawn. He promptly curled all the way into a ball, black nose tucked into the white tip of his tail, then he uncurled just a little- lifting his head. The male was tired, but if Baka wasn't, he'd stay awake. He waited to see what she'd say.

Baka nodded her head, taking in what Mzaa had to say. Already, she felt he was her father-and she was completely smitten. She padded up beside him and lay down, her side pressed against his-a smile wide on her face. She nuzzled up next to him closer and yawned.
This was the most amazing moment of her life. To not be alone again... To not sleep alone-eat alone... play alone. I guess I will just listen to my heart... it will tell me She said, laying her head down on her paws.
I am real glad that we can be friends Mzaa... She said, before laying down her head and shutting her brown eyes.

Mzaa smiled as Baka padded over and laid down. "Your heart will always know best." Mzaa said as she laid down. He was content, it was like he had his family back. How long would she stay? He didn't know, but... something in him needed someone to parent. It had been a while. "I'm glad too," he said happily before he did the same, tucking his nose back into his tail and quickly falling asleep.
