The woman idly tossed another piece of meat the shaman, but her smile was only half-hearted. Alex continued to eat, silent.

"Don't worry about it," Brad glanced between the two, clearly missing something. "It's compensation pay, you're just screwing yourself out of money if you don't know about it. And it's not like they're going to just offer up the--" he paused, grabbing his plate and shifting over rapidly at the approaching man, now sitting across from his sister, "--free dough. More money for the rich, and all that nonsense." He smiled a little at the man next to him, shaking his head at the last comment. Brad was fairly docile, but he had his own nasty habits. Things best left unsaid in the company of new people.

"What time is Zara out?" the man inquired, trying to brush over the brief silence.

Alex checked something on her hip before taking another bite. Only after she had swallowed did she grumble, "'bout a half hour. I'll leave here in about fifteen." Green eyes shifted to We`rika. "Make it five." A ghost of her formal snarky smile returned, only to be lost in another bite.

"Ha ha ha!" We`rika chided obnoxiously and humorlessly, narrowing his eyes at the pipsqueak across the table. But no matter, she could not get a hold of him anymore. He took another bite of his hamburger as well, mimicking her movements like a little kid. The silence between the three of them was more comfortable this time as they finished up their meals and eventually dragged themselves back to work. Merr. The waitress came over, slipping the bill onto the table beside Alex.

A good ten minutes passed before We`rika sighed in defeat. "Well I need ta ge' back ta work. Are ya guys ready?" He rosed from his booth, yoinking one more french fry from his plate, waiting for the others. Brad grabbed the check like a good boy and they followed him to the register.

"Hey... I'mma walk Alex ta her car..." It sounded a bit too chivalrous for the Mexican, but hopefully Alex knew him well enough there was more to the suggestion than grace. "I' was really nice ta mee' ya, Brad..." The shaman smiled sheepishly, "And erhm... thanks..." A bit flustered, We`rika turned and hooked his arm around Alex's waist and escorted her outside. "Soooo did ya two jes ge' lucky or is yer whole family ho'? Or is i' jes a general Italian... thang?"

Brad glanced at the two, his attention settling on We`rika at his kind offer, nodding a little. He had the grace not to look surprised, but then again, it wasn't easy to get a genuine reaction out of the man. He simply went about paying the bill with a courteous, "My pleasure, We`rika. Have a good day."

Alex, of course, was immediately distrusting, but kept it off her face. She DID know better, as We`rika wouldn't do anything that wouldn't benefit himself in turn. With a scowl, she allowed herself to be lead away from her brother, curling her arm around the shaman's back and over his shoulders in mock return. She chuckled a little at his question, "Depends on who you ask, I gue---eeeh what? Did you just call my brother hot?" She stared at him with wide, disbelieving eyes, although there was obvious amusement writ across her face. It didn't matter that he had complimented her, because she could easily discount that as having breasts and therefore automatically hot. But...Brad? Oh ho ho! What was THIS new development?

The man in question - who had no idea of what was going on - was simply paying the bill, sliding his wallet back into his hind pocket before placing a few bills on the table. The food had been good, the service acceptable, and the company...well. He wasn't quite sure what to make of that yet.

We`rika stopped at her question, or rather accusation, as his hand gripped Alex's slack shirt in a tight fist. His voice groaned at the formation of words, but when nothing appropriate surfaced he went silent.

"...." The Huichol didn't dare meet her eyes and instead he just stared off into the horizon trying his best to keep composed. It was hard.

".... Uhmm no! You made tha' assumption.... I was jes feedin' ya... YOU know he's ho' okay? Dun pin this 'revelation' on me jes cause ya two are related... Ya'd do him if ya cooould. Jes be awesome and... pu' a good word in fer me... then I will allow ya to... see Sev'lin when ya wan'... I guess..."

The grin on the woman's face was positively wicked. "I'll see what I can do," she said slowly, as if heavily debating the issue. "I mean, Sevvie is already in good care of all the other, multiple babysitters you've got, and he DOES have Sprinkles." Alex sucked in her lower lip, biting it thoughtfully. "My brother is a pain in the a**, a reclusive brat who could use a bad influence." The smile on her face wasn't entirely friendly, and it might be hard to determine if it was directed at the shaman or the brother in question.

"Hey, what are you telling him?" Brad came out shortly after, a brow raised only slightly in concern.

Alex looked over her shoulder and stuck her tongue out at her older brother. "I'll never tell," she teased, before leaning over and snaking a playful kiss to We`rika's cheek. "Ciao darling. I'll work my magic." A little louder, she exclaimed so Brad could hear, "I need to get my niece, thanks for lunch B!" And with that, she practically skipped out of We`rika's arm, jumping onto and over the bed of her truck to get to the driver's side in a less than conventional manner.

Indigo eyes watched the exchange, a little weary but not entirely concerned. "I'm not sure how you had the misfortune of meeting, but I do hope she was a decent babysitter and not in need of babysitting herself."

"Well thas all I ask..." We`rika stated beneficently, choking down the audible ick that rose up his throat like bile. He hated kisses. He didn't understand why soemone wanted to salivate on another person or have that person salivate on them? It was the dumbest ritual period. He rubbed his cheek with the heel of his palm, praying she hadn't been wearing lipstick. She was a weird piece of a**.

The Huichol looked over and, well, up at Brad. God, he hated tall people with a passion. "Tsh, well I guess nex' time I'lla hafta add 'No strays' to the clause. I didn' think i'd be a gray area when i' came ta releasing animals into my house... Ah, well... Sev'lin likes her and Alex likes doin' i' sooo... Guess i' works out." Shrugging, We`rika turned awkwardly and raised his right hand to shake. "Well... i' was really nice ta mee' ya... I'lla be bustin' some balls abou' this money, I'lla tell ya wha'..."

Brad chuckled. He didn't catch everything that was said, but he got the jist of it. At least, he thought so. "Well. Thanks for putting up with her. She wouldn't shut up about it for weeks. Must be some kid." He extended his hand in return, clasping the shaman's and giving him a single pump. He really hated the extended shaking or the assholery that the uppercrust did, grabbing by the knuckles so you couldn't shake back. He was a simple man and extended simple pleasantries, thank you very much and have a nice day.

"Nice to meet you too. You're one of the few people Ally doesn't have too much to b***h about over." He released the hand, shoving his own into his pocket out of habit. "I'll see what I can do about the management folk for you. Like I said, I can't do much, but I can try." Large shoulders lifted and dropped in a nonchalant shrug, smiling as he started to head across the street and to the job site.

"Maybe I'll see you around again. Let me know if you need a lunch date--ah, well, y'know. I'm around."

"Really?" We`rika was very baffled. "I'd think she had a lo' ta b***h abou' me..." He frowned in suspicion. He wondered what she really said about him. Hopefully the phrase 'man whore' hadn't come up yet. "Thanks again... And dun worry, there will be multiple lunch consumption da'es in th'near future," Nodding matter-of-factly, the Huichol took to the street, ignoring traffic and cries of the disgruntled drivers as he ran back to work.

Even from across the street, his co-workers could be heard yanking his chain for being so late as We`rika put his hard hat back on and veered to the scaffolding. Until his manager cut him off.

"Yer late..."

"Yeah I know, I jes kinda go' caugh' up with a friend..." The manager had a big '******** if I care' sign floating above his head. "Soo whas' this I hear abou' single paren' compensation?"

"......" Yeah, that slapped that condescending expression right off his face.
